As I'm sure you are all aware, there was an article in the December 1987 issue of Popular Hot Rodding that showcases a 1983 Motion IROC-Z. This is the only article, or reference for that matter, I've been able to find on a third generation Motion Camaro.

Does anyone know the whereabouts of this car? How many Motion IROC's did Joel create and from what year to what year? What would it's value be today? I realize they're not Baldwin Motions (as Baldwin Chevrolet was long gone by the 1980's), but they are Motion vehicles none-the-less.

I don't know anything about this Motion one... but I do know that there wasn't an official Z-28 IROC until 1985... and it was NOT called an IROC-Z.

(I once looked at a 1984 Z-28 IROC, they insisted that it was real... even showed me the title).

Uuuuuhhhhh I may be having a senior moment but if my memory file I just pulled is still good, The first IROC;s were released in '84, I worked at the dealer and we recieved a few they were hard to get and people lined up to get them, I think we only got in three?? My buddy bought the Black one, the loan officer drove the yellow one as a demo for awhile and I dont recall what the third one was, It left the lot as fast as it rolled off the truck, the Black one had so many things wrong with it you would not believe it, it was in the shop almost every week, he finally gave up and GM took it back under the lemon law at about a year, I dont recall where the car went after we got it back, they were not all that fast, but we did lust for the wheels and tires off them http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Not to get off topic, but Chevrolet started public selling the IROC Camaro in 1985.
I bought a Loaded Demo 1984 Z/28 HO Camaro in October 1984 from Team Chevrolet, back then the IROC was just arriving for the 1985 new car year.I ended up trading in that 84 Z/28,for an 1985 Blue IROC shortly there after.I made them throw in the NEW IROC Presskit & stills, and Showroom pictures etc. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The Motion car pictured is definitely an 82-24 model, and based on a Z/28, not an Iroc-Z. The Iroc-Z was introduced for the 1985 model year, and was the first camaro to offer 16" wheels. Originally they were only offered with a 305 V8, either carburated or with TPI as an option A 5.7 Liter TPI 350 was offered beginning late in 1986, but only with an auto tranny. 1990 was the last year for the Iroc. The Z28 replaced it in 1991, and was the "top dog" in the Camaro linup once again, until the introduction of the SS model in 1996, in conjuntion with SLP.

The Iroc was indeed called an "IROC-Z" in 1985. The "IROC-Z" lower door graphics were the same (with the addition/deletion of color choices, and placement on the door) throughout the Iroc's lifespan from 85-90.

Hum... I guess I need to quit going off my memory and look up things right before posting http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif I remember reading something about differences in the naming, something about Z-28 IROC and then IROC-Z. I can't find that right now though... I do see that the decal for all those years was IROC-Z

JUst to clarify, here is a scan of the article on the vehicle in question. Quite a machine! Would love to know what happened to it.

Motion also built a 1983 wide body Camaro that they called a IROC Z. It was yellow and was owned by Joel until bought by Motion collector who has other Motion cars. here is a pic of magazine cover. The 1987 Motion Monte Carlo shown with the Camaro had IROC SS graphics and still has IROC SS etched in the side glass.

Well my picture didn't post very well, so I'm trying it one more time. I've broken the scan into two smaller pieces, which hopefully improve the quality. If this doesn't work, can someone tell me how to post pics so they don't look like crap...http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Here are a couple of pictures of the yellow '83 Motion IROC-Z that I bought from Joel. It will be going to Tim at Winner's Circle for resto pretty soon.

I can't wait to pound the ground in this one!

Dan, another cool piece. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Looks like we won't have to worry about Motion being represented at future SCRs. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Very interesting. So that documents that at least 2 Motion IROC-Z's were built. I am also starting to see a trend between on how these vehicles were assembled.

Cosmetically the both use a 'wide body kit', quad tipped exhaust (though the red car has two sets of pipes where as the yellow one only has them on the passenger side) and both front and rear blackout light panels.

The powertrain's are also the same (or at least very similar). The motor on the red car is a 1970 Chevy 350, overbored .030 to 355 cubic inches, a B&M blower with dual side-draft weber carburetors, and NOS.

Does the yellow vehicle have special rear bumper emblems that read "MOTION SuperCharged 5.7 LITER H.O."? By the way, the words 'SuperCharged' are in a completely different lettering then the rest of the emblem.

Has anyone else found any other documentation to substantiate the existance of other Motion-Z's? I'd love to get my hands on one.

What was blacked out on the sign??? Obviously some highly classified information that was only shown to hundreds of people that saw the car at shows http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif....

I usually dont like the 80's Camaros but these Motion IROCS are pretty damn hot!!!

Motion may also have done some mid 80s Firebirds or TAs. I think a TA was built for Kenwood that had the wide body kit and SuperCharger. Motion also did a wild 4 seat Corvette show car in the mid 80s.
