The ZL-1 is based on the early Can Am block used by Hall &
McLaren. From photos and storeys the blocks appear very similar.

Does anyone know what heads they used, were they the early L-88 heads or as they were casting blocks for only a very few were they also producing open chamber heads for this small group of select customers.

Has anyone here, ever seen, owned, built, opened up, one of these early engines.

If you go to McLaren's trust site, listed is a pic image of one of the original engines used; by comparing things in the photos, one can depict the dateline. I would suggest trying to contact them thru their site. Sorry, I cant remember that link address... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
