View Full Version : My new "RS"...

As I mentioned earlier in the week, I finally purchased another '67 Camaro after a very long search. Ironically, I had been working on buying 4 other '67 Z's during the last 2 weeks, when I get a phone call out of the blue asking if I am interested in one that is in WI. Turns out it's a car that I have known about for around 2 years, but could never get the fellow who told me about it to put me in touch with the owner. It's been in WI its entire life and was deliverd new to Hult Chevrolet in Madison. It went to Dodgeville from there and then to Mineral Point for the past 30 years or so. The car has had a very colorful past - litterally! It started out as a Mountain Green RS Z-28 with a black vinyl top. Then it was painted "Russett Metallic" with Gold stripes and a black top, then Bolero Red with a black top, and then the current "Quazar Blue" with no top! Original options are RS, Z-28, deluxe steering wheel, interior decor pkg, HD battery, am radio, vinyl top and tinted glass. The original bill of sales shows the car sold for $3,663.40 total! I had a call from the 5th owner of the car (there was 6 total) last night and he gave me a complete owner history of the car and a ton of background info! He also offered to sell me the original radio, valve covers and vinyl top trim for $400 (seems high, don't you think?). Some time prior to him buying it in 1981, the RS headlights were swapped out for a standard grille set-up (although the RS parts came with the car way back then and are still with it today). He closed up the reverse and park lights and removed the RS rocker trim to make it look like a standard coupe and added the cowl hood. Otherwise the car is unbelievably untouched and rust free! Odo shows about 40,000 miles which the previous owner thought was original. He said that he and his buddy who owned the car next (in 1989) didn't put more than 5,000 miles on the car total. If anyone can help me resize some pics and can post them here I would appreciate it. I tried and it keeps distorting the image...Thanks!

[/ QUOTE ] That sounds right to me actually. I've been seeing original 67 AM radios going for $200-300 and I recently paid $60 for a set of "well used" chrome 67 Chevrolet script valve covers.

Gee Mark, how many other sets of original-to-your-car valve covers, radio and top trim are there?! Besides, that will hardly make a dent in your profit on our last 67Z deal! If the valve cover chrome is good, they alone are worth it IMO.
Really, though, have fun (the discovery and research part is always an exciting phase of a "new" old car) and keep me posted. Heading east ..... cheap...... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks a lot Dave! I'll make you another deal...Let me sell your car for you and I'll give you back my profit if I can keep the profit the car generates now( just 6 or 7 months later!) http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif Or maybe you'd like to buy a set of valve covers. I have a set I can let go for...oh about $400!
I'll keep you in mind if I go east anytime soon. Are you up for a trip to Tennessee or is PA your only destination?

Roger, it actually is kinda funny that there is one more '67 Z still in Mineral Point and he's the brother-in-law of the guy who used to own mine. What are the odds of a town of 2,400 people having 2 '67 Z's?
That would be 2 in 2400. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Mark, i have talked to both. I called about that one you bought, last year. I talked to the guys wife and she said she would never sell. That was her favorite car. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif Roger

Roger...could be true...the "wife" is no longer in the picture http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif The other car, Tim's, could likely be bought. He considered selling it last year and I think the right offer would take the car home.

Mark:
Congrats on the WI Z. Imagine, RS back to std - what were they thinking! Looks very similarly equipped to mine. I had to rib you on our deal - you know I'm happy. A buck is a buck.....
Tennessee is east and I'll be going north before then so anything is possible.

Thanks Dave. Something tells me you'll have another Z before too long (you have friends in the right places http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif). I'll let you know what I am going to do soon.
