Purchased an interesting car a while back, not sure it would be considered a "Super Car" however, it is a 1967 Camaro Pace Car L-78,4speed. From what I have read it is the last pace car built with a build date of 05D. It is registered with The Official Pace Car Registry and the VIN is documented in John R Hoopers book. The car is one of seven cars to be produced from the Van Nuys plant with a 396 and out of that seven and three were built with the 375 hp or L78 with 4 speed. The pace car has a special code on the trim tag and this car does have that code. The car needs complete restoration which we have begun. When I bought the car it had a six cylinder in it and the big block and heads were rusting in the back yard. Crank, rods and pistons, 4speed transmission were up in the garage rafters leaking oil and trans fluid everywhere. Some pullys and other parts were there but it was missing some items such as exhaust manifolds etc...When we began to sand the car we found the thin blue pinstripe down the side and the blue bumble bee stripe around the nose. So, that is my big find!!!

Welcome! With that screen name, is this Sal?

I take it you mean Crispino's Pace Car book (I believe Hooper's name was only on early printings of it)?
Only 7 BB LA IPC's is an incorrect #. I know of 18, 4 (including yours) of those being L78's.
Yup, yours is the last one out of LA that I know of. I'd say it was a late order that got pushed thru. Do you know any early history on the car?

Always interested. The 67 L-78 Pace Cars are my favorite Camaros of all time. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

My add: Years ago, there was a guy out in Jurupa, California who located a VN 67 PaceCar. He found this car up in Yucaipa, California and purchased it from the original owners son who was allowed to drive it for a summer while off from school or something along that storyline. Anyways, he followed that kid to his residence, talked him into selling it to him, and drove it home. That guy called me to come and visually verify what he had bought before he did work to it. I remember the car had the correct paint code and interior color code on the trim tag, it had the BB heater cover, the engine was a 396 with a M21 and 12-Bolt.
Now, the funny thing to see that we both began to notice was that this car appeared to be a Powerglide car by the holes in the firewall and the floorpan having the opening for an automatic. The car also had grab handles in the rear section to the left and right of the rear seats, and there also was 1 grab handle on the front passenger's side area in front on the passenger on the winshield/pillar panel. That car also had the blue pinstriping along the top of the fenders/quarters. The build code if I remember was Jan/Feb of 1967.
Im just adding this to keep this in the fold of the 67 PaceCar topic. I have not seen this car since from back in '91 & I am certain that this car sold back in or around 2000.
I wish I could offer more on this car for you but this is all I can remember from it!

You won't have to confiscate this one. After the restoration you can bid on it at Barrett-Jackson!!Whats it worth?

I believe the last L78 pace car I saw sold for over $200K. But don't quote me on that. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
