What are your thoughts on this car? There is no mention of any documentation. Seller says the block is a restamp. It's at over $100K already.

I don't know anything about the car but it is beyond redicules that the seller has his feedback private!!!!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Maybe "one of the Ricks" can tell us if the car is reported as real? (they were refered to that on another site and I thought it was funny http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

Here is another one. 2 LS6 convertibles on Ebay at the same time, what are the chances of that? I believe this one belongs to a member here.

beautiful car, admitting the restamp is excellent. im confused on why non stock parts like the dynomax mufflers and hurst shifter would be used on a frame off resto, maybe the guy just wanted to build the car to his personal tastes but with that level of restoration and amount of nos parts it doesnt make sense.

That does look the one from Mecum it was a excellant restoration you had to read the description a few times befor knowing it was a clone. I think it brought 135k plus fees. The real LS6 conv only brought about 20k more.

GTO_DON,
That blue car is a clone?!? I didn't think anyone would make up a story like that and name names.

GTO_DON
07-16-2004, 09:47 PM
ITS A CLONE!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif I DONT KNOW WHERE HE MADE THAT STORY FROM BUT I ASSURE YOU THAT CAR IS A CLONE! IM REALLY SURPRISED THAT A WELL KNOWN DEALER WOULD TAKE THE CHANCE AT A MAJOR LAWSUIT. THERES OVERWHELMING EVIDENCE OUT THERE THAT THE CAR IS A CLONE! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif

Charley Lillard

I'm curious about what evidence there is that makes it a clone. Lack of paperwork would not. Saying it is a clone and not explaining more clearly is kind of unfair now that I am thinking about it.

OK,I'LL SHOW MY CARDS; I KNOW THE PERSON WHO BUILT THIS CAR! AND SO DO ALOT OF YOU!! HE'S A MEMBER OF THIS SITE!!! HE DID NOT DO ANYTHING WRONG,HE SOLD IT AT CARLISLE AS A CLONE TO A DEALER WHO TOOK IT TO MECUM AND SOLD IT AS A CLONE ALSO [ SO IM TOLD BY OTHER PEOPLE WHO WAS AT THE SALE]. THE PERSON WHO MADE THE CAR HAS SIGHNED DOCS TO PROVE HE SOLD IT AS A CLONE. HE MADE THE CAR EVERYTHING IT IS!!!! I'LL TRY TO GET HIM TO POST HERE BECAUSE THIS IS GOING TO FAR. IVE TALKED TO HIM ABOUT IT AND HE'S SURE HE'S COVERED. HE'S THINKING ABOUT CALLING THE DEALER HIMSELF BECAUSE I THINK HE'S GETTING A LITTLE http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gifPO'D AT THE WHOLE MATTER. I HAVE NO AXE TO GRIND WITH ANYBODY,I JUST DONT THINK ITS RIGHT WHATS GOING ON!!!!!!!! AFTER ALL ITS A LOT OF MONEY THATS AT STAKE HERE. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

I do not know who built the car but by reading what the seller at Mecum wrote it had to be a clone. There was nothing saying the car was real everything was saying correct this and correct that. Somewhere he would of said it was a real car with correct parts. It was written to confuse somebody who doesnt know how to read into it. If it was real shame on the seller because that car could have brought 200k if it was represented as a real car.

I emailed the seller about the car last night. I asked him if there were any documentation and why a restoration of that caliber would have aftermarket parts. I also asked him if the engine that was removed and set aside was still available. Here is his response.
James

It is an un-documented LS6, we have ownership history that confirms it is, but we have no build sheet or protecto-plate to validate the car. Our description states that the original engine was pulled and set aside many years ago when the car was raced (per ownership history) but we do not have the original block for the car. The current engine in the car is a true LS6 4-speed block that is date coded and stamped to look exactly as the original would. Documented LS6 Convertibles have recently sold for $250,000. plus. This car can be bought for considerably less.

We did not do the resto so I can not answer as to why they put on aftermarket exhaust. Shifters are quite often changed to Hurst from Muncie.

I WONDER HOW THE BLOCK IS STAMPED EXACTLY LIKE THE ORIGINAL IF THEY HAVE NO PROTECTOPLATE TO SHOW WHAT THE ORIGINAL STAMP WAS ANYWAY. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES FOR THAT WHOLE STORY! I KNOW OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAS EMAILED THEM ALSO AND GOT THE SAME ANSWER! THE GUY WHO THEY SAID HAD THE CAR FOR 30 YEARS IS FALSE AND HE DID NOT EVEN BUILD THE CAR!!! I DONT GET IT! THIS ONES GOING TO GET VERY INTERESTING I GUESS. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

I hate it when I see clone stuff being passed off as original. In the sub-heading he says "True 1970 LS6 Convertible". Later on he says "When this 1970 LS6 was new...". I would interpret those 2 statements as this being a factory original car. He sure likes to use the words "durability" and "reliability". For somebody that didn't restore the car he sure knows a lot of details. Maybe it wasn't David Gilmore the Corvette guy that restored it. Maybe instead it was David Gilmore of Pink Floyd!

THIS IS GETTING OUT OF CONTROL,I WILL TRY TO CLEAR UP ALL OF THIS CONFUSION. I BUILT THE CAR FROM A REAL SS. IT DIDNT HAVE ANY PAPERWORK OR AN ORIGINAL ENGINE SO I BUILT THE CAR THE WAY I WANTED, WITH MANY ORIGINAL LS6 PARTS THAT I HAD COLLECTED OVER THE YEARS. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO SPRING CARLISLE TO SELL. A CROWD GATHERED AROUND THE CAR ON THE TRAILER, AND IT SOLD IN TEN MINUTES TO A VERY REPUTABLE DEALER. I HAD A LARGE POSTER EXPLAINING ALL THE DATE CODES AND CASTING NUMBERS AND THAT THIS CAR WAS A CLONE AND WAS NOT BUILT BY GM AS A TRUE LS6. THE 3RD PARAGRAPH READ( THIS IS A 1970 CHEVELLE SS CONVERTIBLE WITH ALL VINTAGE LS6 PARTS PROPERLY PRE-DATING THE BODY BUILD DATE MAKING THIS THE MOST CORRECT CONVERTIBLE LS6 CLONE YOU HAVE EVER SEEN.)
THE 5TH PARAGRAPH SAID (THIS CONVERTIBLE IS SO CORRECT THAT THE BUYER OF THIS CAR MUST SIGN A LEGAL DOCUMENT THAT ACKNOWLEDGES THIS CAR IS NOT A TRUE LS6 FROM GM.)
THE BUYER SIGNED THE LEGAL DOCUMENT AND A WITNESS SIGNED THE DOCUMENT. THE CAR WAS THEN PUT INTO HIS ENCLOSED CAR CARRIER. THE CAR WAS ONLY AT CARLISLE FOR APPROX. 45 MINUTES ON THURSDAY.
NOT LONG AFTER I HEARD THIS CAR WAS SOLD AT MECUM- ROCKFORD SPRING CLASSIC AS A CLONE.
IM NOT SURE WHAT GOING ON, BUT I PLAN ON CALLING HAPPY CARS TOMORROW.
REGARDS, MIKE

No worries Don...Charley is just one of those guys that prefers to know the facts and source of the information/evidence before he forms an opinion. He wasn't saying that he didn't believe you...he was pointing out that your post lacked evidence for your claim. Now, there's lots of evidence and it's obvious that your claim is supported by facts/evidence http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

It's a shame this sorta creative advertising goes on in this hobby. The way I read the ad would sure leave me thinking it was a real car...thanks for the heads up!

A tip of the hat to Mike, Don, and Kenny for being honest and forthright http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

It is a shame that all this tends to put a negative aura around the car, distracting from the fact that it is one gorgeous automobile! If Happy Days had just been more truthful in their description, everyone could be busy drooling over the car and praising it for what it is http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

"We have ended the EBAY auction on our 1970 CHEVELLE LS6 CONVERTIBLE because this morning, SATURDAY, JULY 17, 2004, we had a conversation with one of the former owners and he furnished us some verbal information contrary to what has been told to us before. At this point in time, with all present inputs considered, it seems indeterminable as to wether this is a true original LS6. or an outstandinly dated coded replica. That being the case, we believe it to be incorrect to call it a true LS6 at this time, and have therefore ended the auction to insure that all parties interested in the purchase of this vehicle have all the same available information. Thank you each for your comments and assistance!"

Wow
maybe its time to lobby GM USA to issue documentation just like the cars ordered in Canada.I am sure GM Canada is making big bucks filling orders for info at 50.00 Canadian thats about 35.00 US. Canada has about 30 million people the US has about 300 million. Just think of the money they could make.

The only problem with that idea is GM USA says they pitched all the production records away years ago. GM Canada probably still had the microfilm because there weren't as many cars to keep records for http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
There was a poster on this board, at one time, who claimed she worked for GM. At the time she said GM would sell that info if they had it http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
I know Jim Mattison's working on this but........
