I originally purchased this car this car in June of 1999, as repainted and partially assembled car. I was attracted to the car because of the options and color. The car was purchased at Dave Hallman Chevy 3/26/69, by Paul Murphy. Paul owned the car until 1974 and sold it to his buddy Ray, (who worked at Dave Hallman Chevy and prepped the car when new) as part of a divorce settlement. Ray rarely used it and stored the car in garages and barns over the next 25 years. He started a restoration in the mid eighties but never completed it, which is where I come in. The car has only 37k miles, and the beautiful original interior supports that fact. Options include:
Rally-Sport
Console Gauges
Tilt Wheel
410 posi
8 track
am/fm
Remote Mirror
Defog
M22
Front Bumper guards
Vinyl top
Ivory Houndstooth Interior

After purchasing the car and getting it home I decided the car deserved a frame-off restoration. Well five years later I finally finished and showed it at this years 2004 Camaro National at Carlisle and received a gold certification in the 1000 point bowtie class. A special thanks goes to Jim Kosel (Rochester, NY) who prepared the body and painted the car and Ron Normann (MCCP) who provided most of the NOS parts and advice. During the restoration journey I asked myself why several times.... my questions have been answered.

Thanks,

Steve Shauger

Yes the vinyl roofs do look good with the bodycolor going up the A pillar and then down the roof. That is a very nice looking Z.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I recently was contacted by the original owner after five years of trying to track him down. He is a great guy who shows alot of enthusiasm for the car. Unfortunately he has been diagnosed with a terminal disease, which he has survived beyond the Dr's expectations. I recently sent him pictures, and he called me almost everyday until ofoto finally delivered them. We have been talking about getting together so that he can be reunited with HIS car. The great part of owning these cars is researching their colorful history. One quick story he told me was that he purchased a 68 Camaro new and was t-boned by a drunk driver which totaled the car (which necessitated him purchasing this one). At the same time this ended his career at the Tonawanda Engine plant (he was partially disabled by the accident). BTW he ran a cross ram on the car for a period.

seems odd all the other options and no ZL2 or is this too early of a car to have ZL2?

It's not too early 3B, but in general the cowl hood option was more popular on later built cars. My orange car was built 9B of 69 and was ordered with it.

The weather was questionable so the attendance was down. I plan on bringing my 69 RS/SS LB, L34 survivor next week. Look forward to talking with you.

BTW on 10/3 my club has a car show at Hallockville Farm. Lots of interesting cars from 1910 Brush to 1969 Yenko. Cars must be 25 years and older. Here is a link to our website www.pbraaca.org (http://www.pbraaca.org) and there are downloadable applications.
