Did anyone watch Overhaulin' last night (Tues.) ?

They stole a great '68 Olds 442 and the guy was a mess the whole time it was missing.

When they brought the guy in he recognized Courtney Hansen, (who wouldn't!?) http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif
..and he knew he'd been Overhauled.

What a fun show that is... if you're a gearhead or not.

I'm sorry I missed the 442 being overhauled, but I've seen the show several times and it's a http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif show

I saw last nights episode. I really like that show & they do awesome work in such a short time.
The guy with the 442 got burned in that he didn't get a new engine like most of them do. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Still ended up with a cool car http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif
Did you see the episode when they overhauled the '50 Ford & kept the Flathead. That owner was smart enough to get Chip Foose & the build team to sign the car. I'm sure that will add value if/when it's ever sold. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

The 442 ended up looking very good, I especially liked the wheels they put on it. It's amazing to watch Chip sketch his ideas out and then turn them into a finished car.

And that Courtney... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

That car's fiberglass was so dry it sucked up a ton of resin.
Another good one was the surfer kid from CA. with the Elky.
He's about 17 years old with a Chip Foose designed ride.

I read a post on the Overhaulin' boards @TLC and the guy's wife said he had a 455 Olds in it, so they didn't swap it out because he had a strong engine. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

I like the way they painted the K&N air cleaner frame and valve covers with the exterior yellow. It dressed-up the engine compartment nicely.

I thought they just cleaned it up. Remember they mentioned there was water in an intake port?

The wife sez this:
THE MOTOR IS 19-20 years old. It is a 455 big block Olds. It has less than 30K miles on it. It runs strong. If they blew the motor up, shouldnt we be the judge of that? It still fires up. They wanted to rebuild the original block but stealing the car from one place and ripping off the engine from another is a scene.

First of all, Overhaulin' is a cool show. Secondly, Foose has lost more talent than some of us will ever have. But I truly believe that what Foose has in mind might not be what the people are looking for. I think the 442 guy was being tipped off by his wife as to what was going on. I may be wrong (I tend to channel surf) on this but after the guy was freaking out about his car the wife started coaching Foose about things. She mentioned how much he liked the vinyl top and the bench seat and almost cringed when she saw them getting rid of both. The icing on the cake for me was when the guy noticed the Overhaulin' chick right off the bat. There hasn't been that many episodes for the guy to name her off the top of his head in 5 seconds. This is all just my opinion and I'm certainly not knocking Foose and his guys but I'll take the stock look any day of the week over a custom low-rider from the muscle car era. Can you guys imagine if they Overhauled your Yenko? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif I wouldn't want to miss that episode.

I watch that show religiously so maybe the owner of the 442 is a fan of the show too? I know if they ever overhauled my Mustang (please, please, please) I would know those guys, and girls, right off the bat too. Oh and I'm sure I'd love anything that Foose wanted to do to my car.
I've even gone so far as to print out application forms for the show and considered submitting them for my own car.

I agree with your thought that the wife tipped-off her husband. She is on the TLC boards- spouting off at every post -- so she's definitely got a big mouth. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I actually edited her post I put up here because she added a buncha CAPS as she was "yelling" at everyone. A woman like that does NOT keep secrets.

I think the guy knew, because he was so emotional when the car was reported stolen, but then his reaction to seeing Courtney was somewhat suddued. (Although if I met Courtney my reaction would be anything but subdued... )
http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I also agree that while Foose is fast becoming a legend, I prefer a completely stock a-body or f-body car over anything chopped, lowered or otherwise bastardized.

I believe what Chip was saying in the show was that "anybody can open a book and see a picture of a 68 Cutlass, but i want people to see this car and know that that was the car that was on overhaulin". I believe the engine guy did say in the episode that they dynoed the engine and were going to pump it up, so i belive there was some engine work done to it, but not a complete r&r. Also why do they call him "Foose", whats wrong with Chip, is it a marketing thing?? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Canuckle,
I finally got a response from the guy's wife on the TLC boards. Here is what she said about the 442 engine:

I believe this is all they did under the hood...

new radiator, belts hoses, pump (basically cooling system replaced).
engine cleaned up, painted and compartment painted.
new and painted valve covers.
new air filter painted up.
new plug wires.
NOS system.
new ceramic coated dougs headers
new distributor.
new ignition box.
new optima battery.
freon was charged.
has a new alternator. something my husband did.
carburator the same, a good one recently rebuilt.
cam shaft stayed the same. sentimental purposes. my husband made it himself when he was a teen working at Howard Cams.

I may be forgetting something but I think this is all.

I'd guess Chip is called "FOOSE" because he wants his last name on the cars and those custom wheels he designs. You're right -- he's making a trademark out of his name.

Man, what a great job to have, huh? Designing tricked-out cars and having a shop with skilled tradesmen to pull it all off?

I'll almost bet you won't ever see a restoration on that show.
But it's a good idea to start a new one with that storyline http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

It's on the Discovery Channel. I think it's right after American Chopper. American Chopper is another great show but if you watch the new episodes and then catch an old episode - it's amazing how many "Snap-On" tools showed up. Those guys have pallets of tool boxes hanging around in there.

I think the 442 came out looking great. I like restored original cars and I also like customized cars. The show is all about the sponsors getting to show off their goods and that's pretty cool.

HELLO GOAT.

ITS THE OVERHAULIN SPOUTY BIG MOUTH WHOM YOU OFFENDED. Thanks http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

QUOTE FROM GOAT: "I agree with your thought that the wife tipped-off her husband. She is on the TLC boards- spouting off at every post -- so she's definitely got a big mouth.

(Although if I met Courtney my reaction would be anything but subdued... )"

MAY I SPOUT SINCE I HAVE A BIG MOUTH??? Too bad, gonna anyhow.
FIRST Thanks for being so two faced. Saying I spout off on every post on that other website. OKAY, I WILL GIVE YOU THAT (yell, yell). Sorry, I didnt know all caps were yelling. Kinda lame if you ask me. I see you have posted WELL OVER 100 posts here. Hmmmmm... could it be? You like to chat when your bored? Why are you so bored? Are you only human? And social at that? I dont see the crime.

SECOND: My husband did not know. Is there anything you or anyone would like to ask me regarding this show? In case you didnt notice, I put up my dukes on that board when people bash the show. COULD IT BE BECAUSE I AM GRATEFUL? What a sin.

THIRD: Yes, my husband recognized Courtney. Because she introduced herself as COURTNEY HANSEN. He knew her as Courtney on the show and although that didnt register that very second, she pointed at the OVERHAULIN patch on her shirt which then made him realize. I told the producers not to use Chris or Courtney in any pranks because my husband would have recognized her for sure.

Lots more goes on that you dont know. They edit it and make it short. The two episode of the pranks at my neighbors house were about 20 minutes long each. Audio problems caused the lack of good footage. AGAIN... in the lobby where he was told he was Overhauled, they went rounds for a lot longer before Courtney came out. My husband was calling that guy host a FREAKING THIS AND AHOLE THAT when he left for longer then half a second in reality to go get his supervisor COURTNEY. AGAIN... audio problems caused lack of other footage. So it really looked chopped up.

The phone call to his best friend Brian appeared about 60 seconds. It was a 30 minute phone call with plenty of whining. I dont know why they was edited the way it was.

Yes, here I am again defending the show that changed our lives. I noticed you wrote some nice things but then I noticed you changed your tone. Is it a crime to talk and use a message board? Your here, your there (on the other msg board). Its apparent to me you like to chat to strangers also. WHOOPIE. I dont think we should burn in hell for it.

Sure I have a big mouth. Woman like me dont keep secrets. BUT KEEPING THIS ONE GAVE ME MAJOR ANXIETY. YES, MY BRAIN FORGOT TO SHUT IT DOWN AND I AM CURRENTLY ON ANXIETY MEDICATION because this whole experience was so overwhelming and way more then I THOUGHT I COULD HANDLE. Living a lie and keeping it from your spouse of almost 20 years (whom I share everything with) was not easy. Its still not easy. This has affected us both.

PEACE. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

For the record... I requested bucket seats. I did not request a new motor. I think all the Chevy cars got new ones because they needed them and they were available. Are there new 455 Olds motors out there? I didnt think so. I told them they could take the top off. I knew they would. My husband recognized Courtney after SHE INTRODUCED HERSELF (he then repeats her name), she also pointed to the patch on her shirt that said OVERHAULIN". What went on in that lobby was edited big time. Audo problems kept them from using much of their footage.

Just thought you might find that all informative. My husband did not know about this. Yes I am here because I felt a wee bit offended by your comments. Just wanted you to hear it from the source. No crime committed here. Please dont damn me to hell.

I watched the 442 epsidode of "Overhaulin' twice now and I apologize, but I don't remember your name.

Even when you apologize for not knowing about using CAPS, you are still using them.
Anyone who reads your posts will read into them as "angry" because of this over-use of caps, so of course, you're gonna come across as "spoutin' off".
In your posts here, and in your posts at TLC, you seem to be taking defensive posturing to the extreme, when there's no real need to do so. Most people seem very happy with the "442" epsisode and "Overhaulin" in general. BTW: If you re-read the TLC posts, I was the guy defending the show and Courtney... and your husband.

Sorry, but the use of caps is simple & elementary Internet protocol, Madam. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Anyway, understand that I certainly did not mean to offend, and I think your husband's car came out fantastic (as I mentioned on both boards).

So welcome to the Yenko boards... and if you want to come across as a calm, collected individual, simply drop all those caps. (You can use punctuation and emoticons to get your point across... calmly.)

ALLCAPS... to me is like bolding the word. Emphasizing. Yelling maybe. But more like making things clear. Okay fine if its an internet manners thing. I'll give you that. Just keep one thing in mind when thinking of me... I have only gotten snotty with people who are being rude or who could possibly hurt someones feelings. I NEVER spoute off negative unless someone DOES IT FIRST. Maybe you dont have any feelings, but making a point can be done in a little more of a respectful way (yes this goes for me too). Some people just dont GET IT ya know. I just feel the world could use a FEW less rude folks. Starting with yourself. Bet you never thought Id stumble on to this board. My husband and I were reading what you were laying down last night just shaking our heads. People that dont even know us or what happened creating their own storyline. Amazing. I just needed to be heard. I wish you the happiest day and I am not here to be public enemy #1. Honest. You hurt my one feeling. (I dont have too many). But I am over now. Thanks for coming down to my level. We are all just human and its obvious we BOTH like to chit chat. NO CRIME THERE RIGHT????

Dear 442, I'm sorry if feelings were hurt because it may have been my comments that started all that. You have to realize that we (as onlookers) are only privy to the 60 minutes that gets aired. Although there is probably a week of taping for each show the average joe only sees an hour. Therefore, we have to make decisions about what is going on based on what little we see. Apparently, this is not always accurate. I can tell you that in the short time I've been hanging around this place I have encountered nothing but good folks and if you stick around I'm sure you will see the same. Also, is that Overhaulin' chick as hot in person as she is on TV? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Sincerely, Marc

Sorry to be back. Just like other message boards, I'm now overly curious to see whats being said! So yes, here I am again invaiding your space. SORRY. (I am easily amused).

When that host stepped out from behind the counter for a minute, my husband went off to his buddy about this guy. My husband is not very confrontational. So I never expected him to be anything other than cordial with this person. But I knew what he was thinking. When we talked later that night, he told me what he said about that guy. EXACTLY what I thought he was AT LEAST thinking. (Too bad they didnt catch that footage!) We were all watching it on a monitor in the building next door when it was going down. They kept loosing the audio and the connection. So we didnt see everything. When he looked at Courtney Hansen, in the show it looks like he is checking her BOOBIES! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif But it was the patch on her shirt she was pointing at that we couldnt see. Well, Im sure he sneaked a peak at the twins. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif Courtney is a looker. He is a man. Cant blame him if he did! How does the hubby like paint job / pattern on the car? From what I gathered from the brief (edited) footage of him on the show, he seems like a guy who would lean towards a little more subdued, factory style paint scheme.

The reason that I ask is that I just watched an episode of 'Trading Spaces' (yes, under duress) and the recipient of the remodeling was noticeably upset...but kept it cool for the show.

The car is gorgeous and he's a lucky guy but I'm curious if he's got any changes in mind.

Im curious, as stated in another post. What are the legalities of this build?. Do you have any obligations to the show as far as showing the car or selling?. Do they help with insurance or any continued finacial support?. How did you get picked for the show?. Does the Discovery channel or any of the suppliers (including Chip) help with any post show support?. Why does everybody refer to him as "Foose" and not "Chip"?. It sounds military. Is the car everything it seems to be or have you made any fine tuning tweeks?. Does he still want a Hurst, or will this car do?. Just curious

Hi! Okay, when my husband saw the car for the first time he told me HE NEEDED NO EXPLAINATION as to why the car was painted the way it was. He FULLY understood it the moment he saw it. Remember, his car was going nowhere fast. He LOVES IT. He surely does not brag about it because he did not do it himself nor slap down his hard earned cash. He loves it big. Thrilled to death that I did this for him. He said that car couldnt be more him if someone tried. I keep asking him over and over to tell me his point of view. It comes out the same way. He loves it. He sits in the garage on his old original bench seat from the car and just stares at the car. HE LOVES IT. Every day it looks cooler and cooler to us both. Its loud, but its him. Its shiney! He hasnt seen that car shine EVER! He pondered restoring it back to the original state and color but couldnt bring himself to do the Saffron (pale yellow) color. He likes the tougher look. He got both worlds if you ask me.

He thought Foose was a god or still does think that. So he is proud to own a rolling piece of Chip Foose art. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

The legalities go like this... we pay the taxes. Since we do not have any money the only reason why I considered doing this is because you do not pay taxes until next tax season. So I figured he would have plenty of time to figure that out. We have a home and 2 kids. I dont work. So we get back from taxes every year a few thousand dollars. Which is what I figured the tax bill will be. So it will be a "wash" for us. We wont get a refund and we wont be digging into our pockets.

We have a contract with Overhaulin' not to sell the car nor change anything for 1 year. My husband will NEVER sell this car. He has had it 24 years. It will never be sold. The only thing he wants to change is the steering wheel. Foose put an old Olds replica one on there. Its very big and thin. I remember Foose saying something about it before putting it on. I am not so sure he was real sure about it. So my husband is going to change the steering wheel when the year is up. To a smaller, thicker, sportier wheel. He wants one from Fooses shop or one to match the rims.

After the show, the front suspension settled a bit. So they changed the springs. That dropped the back end to low. So my husband went to the people who sponsored the springs and they gave him new ones for the BACK. He is going to raise the back end up today I think. He wants a little more of a muscle car stance to it. But not a big jacked look. The Overhaulin crew said this was fine. I also put in a request for a manual 5 speed. They did not have the time to do it properly in 7 days. So they opted out. Good thing, because now my husband is swaying more towards a GEAR VENDORs Overdrive and a floor shifter. Not stick shift. So we called the show, they said that we could do that. They just dont want to see major changes to the car, like dont change the paint or wheels or interior... And thats all the stuff my husband loves and would never even think of changing! So the show is pretty cool about things. The Overhaulin producer and Foose both told us if we need help with anything to call! So thats cool.

They have the right for 1 year to take the car with ample notice and trailer it to a car show. They said they would leave us a rental car too. Since this is not a vehicle he drives every day he wouldnt need a rental car. If they dont take it, they may just ask us to bring it if we can. If we cant, then they would come get it. So far they havent. Something was mentioned about it going to SEMA though. I dont know for sure.

The car insurance is minimal. Its a classic and not driven every day. I think our insurance went up $50 for 6 months. We had it insured for $8,000 before. Now it is insured for a safe $50,000. So $50 for 6 months wasnt bad. AT ALL. So the answer is no, they are not helping us pay the insurance. Its no thing.

Its going on the cover of a magazine soon. Muscle Car Enthusiast.

ALSO: How did I get on the show you ask? I watched the FIRST episode ever, after watching the show I got online, found an application, downloaded it, told my story, sent it in before the second show aired. They called me within 2 weeks of me sending it. They say now they get approx 15,000 apps a week. Im sure I was not up against that many though back then.

ALSO: You asked why I refer to him as FOOSE. Many folks on the set called him that. All his shirts say FOOSE in large letters. He puts FOOSE in the paint scheme of his cars. So FOOSE just stuck and works for me. If I spoke to him directly I would surely address him as CHIP.

Take Care all.

There ya go with those CAPS AGAIN, 442!

Hey, I have a secret for you.... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

My SECOND car?
A 1970 442 convertible, 455, automatic with the fiberglass hood and mega scoopage!

So, you see? We're not all THAT far apart... we both have great taste in cars!

By the way, my girlfriend and I were very taken by the emotion on that 442 episode. We could feel the attachment your husband had for that car, and I swear we felt his joy and exhilaration when he recognized Courtney. The reveal scene was very good too - better than any drama BS on TV these days. This is what makes Overhaulin' such a great show.

Now... go back to spoutin' off about how cruel I am!

Dang it... through all that you still noticed I missed something? Of course he would still like HIS car to be a HURST. They are more rare. BUT, the car he has is the car he will keep. If someone wanted to trade an equally nice of a Hurst for his HE WOULDNT. Only because he has an attachment to this particular vehicle (even before the Overhaul). But yes, he would love a Hurst Olds as a SECOND antique.

Okay, I just spoke for my husband. He is here now, let me ask... he said no. Before or After Overhaulin he wouldnt trade for a nice Hurst.

Just as I thought! I do know my husband! IMAGINE THAT. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif The attachment is to Grannys Olds and no other. Besides, we have history in the back seat. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif Cant get rid of that piece of OUR history. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif
