EPOXY FLOOR COATINGS

Need some help. Getting ready to put down a floor surface in a high traffic area and was thinking about using one of the epoxy floor coatings. Does anyone have any experience with any of these? Good .... Bad ? Needing to cover about 2500 sq. feet.

I'm sure you'll get opinions on both sides of this but I researched this quite a bit last year. Bottom line is this....if your floor doesn't have a polyethylene vapor barrier under it, it is likely that whatever you put on top is going to get pushed off (from underneath) by the moisture.....IMO. That said, I went with the cheap Home Depot Behr epoxy stuff and a year later, it's held up better than I thought it would. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif It is starting to flake a bit in the traffic areas too. In hindsight, I would have just put down a thick vapor barrier on top of the concrete and put one of those 'dry fit' jigsaw tile floors on top. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

Best advice, have a professional that has a guarantee do it.It can range from $1 to $3 per square foot, and, if I had it to do over again, I'd step up for "the good stuff".
Too light - Bad, shows too many stains, including tire marks
Medium - Best compromise, either grey or red
Too dark - Bad, shows too much dust

I used a 2 part from Rust Oleum I believe....put plastic down before concrete was poured......It has held up well for the past 10 years....it doesn't like carbide snowmobile studs though....thats about the only thing that scratched it...

Look into "Acid Stain", it never flakes because it actually pigments the minerals in the concrete. Then you put clear sealer over top (flat, semi-gloss or gloss). My friend has it in his antique shop (heavy traffic) and his DRIVEWAY (very heavy traffic) and looks as good as the day it was put down. What do you guys think of that racedeck stuff?. I was looking at that becouse it gets alot of kuddos from industry people, but i just can't get over the fact that liquids would get underneath it, then your constantly lifting it to clean it. Im leaning more towards a good floor coating

Thanks guys...looks like I will be going with the V A tile. Plastic stuff...varity of colors and wears forever. Plus they will put it down for $1.25 a sq. ft. materials and labor.
