In July I sent Matt LaFond (aka Motownmadman) a certified check for $250 for (2) 14x 6 'XF' coded steel wheels. Since Motown had been a very active member of this site for so long I trusted him to send me the wheels AFTER I sent the check...wrong move. Scams such as these appear to be common on ebay but I honestly felt 100% safe dealing with 'one of our own' and let my common sense fly right out the friggin window by not doing a C.O.D deal.

Hey Jude, Dont jump to conclusions so fast.. I have bought some stuff off Matt LaFond (aka Motownmadman)and I thought the same way you do.... I waited three months to get my stuff from him, you have to be patient he is slow, I mean really slow... I almost posted a response on here the same way you did about the stuff I bought off him but I stayed calm and waited... Trust me I know how you feel, Matt held up my car for THREE months to be completed... I was pissed but I did recieve my stuff... Next time you write him a PM click on the box that will send you a read receipt... Good luck, Mark

Jude, have you left word for him at other muscle car forum sites? He was a moderator at one of the other sites, and may check in there from time to time. I bought an item from him last spring, and it took 4-5 weeks to show up here...similar to 396L35 scenario. Hope your wheels show up soon. See you at the Reunion...

I don't get it.
Over 330 trades & it all goes for a s%&t in a month.
It takes a long time to get that feedback, especially when so few bother leaving it.
There's something we don't know goin' on with Motown.
Whatever it is I hope he gets it together, sound like the wheels are coming off http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

April/May was about the time that Matt started having his health problems wasn't it? Maybe that explains the drop off in responsiveness.... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

After I paid for the wheels (7/26) I got this msg on July 27th. "Got the check AOK. Thanks. I dropped the wheels off at the local tire shop to have the old tires broken down off them, I should have them back this afternoon and shipped tomorrow. Thanks again. Matt"
I've attempted to contact via email & by phone without results. If the wheels show up or if tracking info is given to me so I can recover the property I'll apologise or do whatever I can to make things right again. I posted this so that others might use caution when buying parts from others without seeing the parts first.

[/ QUOTE ] I think it was more like March when his doctor dropped the bomb.... Jude, I received the same stuff you did: an email that said that he got the money and the items will ship the next day???? Plus I called all the numbers that I could find from him and all were disconnected or no longer in servive... Finally one day the PONY EXPRESS showed up at my door three months later.. I think the riders horse died on the trip and had to walk on foot the rest of the way to my house... Hang in there bud, they should show up... I'm kinda surprised, Matt always been nice to me and maybe he is just having trouble? Hopefully he can get it straightened up.

I hate to say it, but if someone's going to say it'll be shipped in a few days time and they don't bother, for whatever reason, for three months, then they shouldn't be selling it in the first place. Otherwise, at least they should make it clear.
Apparently, this is not the first time it's happened and it's not okay to leave people waiting that long without any word. It's pretty easy and quick to pick up the phone, even if you don't often log online. Be it you receive the parts months late or not, I'd still be (rightfully) pissed.
If this person is unfortunate enough to have severe health problems, then I'm truly sorry to hear that, but this sounds like it was an issue prior to that. I don't think anyone owes someone an apology if they get their parts months late, though it would be good to let people know that it was just really late, rather than not at all.
I don't mean to sound like I don't appreciate the potential problems a major health problem can create in someone's life, but that you should be able to at least answer your phone or call someone, unless it's _really_ bad. And, it's horrible if that's the case, but again, this has obviously happened to several people and not just recently, so I don't think it is due to the health problems.
Hopefully you'll get what you paid for, but I don't believe you have any reason to apologize for being pissed off. It's not only the lack of the item you pay for, it's the feeling of being taken, or someone ignoring you and leaving you wondering.
I don't have to explain how frustrating that is. If he _finally_ gets your parts to you, unless he has a really good reason, I'd hold off on the apology--it should be the other way around. If people don't want to have posts like this about them, they better treat others with more respect and not screw around. Otherwise, this is the result and it's only expected!

I agree, Tim...it is just wrong to hang someone out without any contact for prepaid merchandise. Jude has been patient, and has every right to be angry and expect better treatment from Matt. Do the right thing Matt!

Joe, It sounds like you are trying to do it the right way. There is always a reason and a solution, but its not always easy. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

I think something may have happened to Matt. I know he was dealing with some serious problems. He may be slow at times, but I do not believe he would rip you off.

Being that this is a public forum you never really know who your dealing with. Someone that may come across as a great guy on this or any other forum may be cruising these sites looking for more potential victims. Im sure that this site is no different then others as we have no way of knowing just who these people could be. As this hobby of ours involves big money it's a good chance that there are some here. Not pointing fingers, but as always it's buyer beware.

69 BM LS7 knows Matt better than most of us so lets wait for info.....
I'm not siding with anyone in this thread, but lets be patient to pass Judgement.
I mean God forbid,if Something FATALLY WRONG has happened to Matt L.,wouldn't this thread look to be in rather Bad taste of that current situation?
No disrespect meant to anyone.

I also share your concern for Matts well being. I always enjoyed reading his posts on this site & I felt we had a good rapport when discussing the transaction. When we last spoke he told me he was fine (no cancer). He also requested that I overnight the check so that he could buy a crossram intake as he didn't want to lose it. I did so reluctantly and expected my goodies within a normal shipping timeframe & I'm still hoping that they're lost in UPS/FED EX land somewhere. I asked for this tracking info several times before I posted but never got a response.
Matt knows how to reach me so, why don't we kill this thread? Whatever happens...happens.

I have made a few purchases from motown and all of them went very well, maybe a little slow but all was good.I would bet that Matt is having some kind of problem.I also know of a few others that have purchased items from him as well and all there transactions were good also.I am not siding with anyone but at least give the guy a chance to respond if he is able too.I personally do not think Matt is the type of person to rip someone off!Just my 2 CENTS worth. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
