I just got back and gotta say it has dwarfed any show I have ever been to. Amazing. The problem is it is so linear you have to walk for miles to see stuff. I highly recommend it to any gearhead. I maybe made it two miles and it is about 20 miles long ? Over 1 million Paople and 10-20 thousand cars ? In the tiny bit I saw I came across two Dodge Charger 500 Hemi cars and they were a parked a couple miles apart. A bunch of new C6 Corvettes running around, Ford Gt's, new Mustangs. The big three are a real presence there. I had the Mule there and my Friend Mark had his twin turbo Malibu. I didn't very many pics as I was just walking around in amazement. http://www.yenko.net/attachments/94947-8-22-04%20001.jpg

I also met Harold Sullivan there. He had the Silver Bullit on display. A fake of the silver Bullit was also on display just down the road claiming to be the real thing. Harold has had his attorney send him a letter. I didn't have a camera at the time though. Silver Bullit was a street race Hemi car that used to terrorize the Detroit street drag scene. Cool car.
Cool Pix. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
I would have loved to seen the Silver Bullit too.

Charley,
I can't believe I did not run into you in that small crowd! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
The cruise route is 16 miles long. I heard that the attendence this year hit 1.6 million and 40,000 cars. It sure seemed like more to me. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif This was definitley BIGGER than any of the years past! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif (Stats from previous years have been 1.5 million people & 35,000 cars).
For you guys that have never been here before, I highly recommend that you attend the Woodward Dream Cruise at least once before you die! Pictures and video just don't do it justice. You really need to be here!

There are businesses along Woodward that rent you parking space. Probably read the local want ads.

BTW...I had a LOT of fun last week and saw a lot of cool stuff (including my husband doing an awesome burnout http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif in his '70 GTO), but I gotta say the funniest thing that happened to me while on Woodward was when I was heading home on Saturday night in my Camaro. I was in stand-still traffic when a cop two lanes over yelled "nice plate". I said "thanks". A couple minutes later, he yells "have a nice night, RITA!" http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Since my name is not on my plate, he must have ran my plate http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif Ironically, I changed my plate because it just freaked me out to have people who didn't know me yelling my name. (my plate used to read "RITAS69")

I missed Woodward this year. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif I think I've made it to 6 of the past shows now. My friend that lives in Bloomfield called me from his cell phone and left a message on my machine so I could hear the cars revving. I'll get even with him somehow. Every car person should make it there at least once. Only Detroit could pull off a car show of this size. After all, cars made Detroit what it is today. Why not celebrate? Some people I tell about it having a hard time believing there are that many cars and people. Then I show them video, pictures and a local map. Their eyes kinda get glassy. I hope to make it next year.
Charley- Was that your first time at Woodward for the cruise?
Charley Lillard
08-24-2004, 05:21 PM
Yes that was my first but not my last. My car was there already so I figured I might as well check it out. Wow.

The festivities actually start about the Monday before. The shopping center at Thirteen Mile and Woodward gets really crazy about Wednesday but there is something going on every day leading up to Saturday. Charley, I had your old 68 Lemans blue z (the one you owned for about a minute) in the Chevy display in Birmingham. Great day, great people, great cars. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Ed,
I think you mis-understood what I said. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif I said that I "used to have "RITAS69" on it". I no longer have my name on my plate, so the only way the cop could have known my name was if he ran my plate.

I was there too. It was a great time http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif. My car club was camped out at Uncle Ed's Oil Shop just north of 13 Mile Rd. The parking rate there was 125.00 per car for the day. I would imagine, if you looked around, you might find some are cheaper. The women, errrr I mean the cars cruising around there were awesome http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif. We had some fun with Springer beads late in the day too http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif. I took a few vids but haven't looked at them yet.

I only saw the one 74. I'm sure there were more but I didn't get very far. I forgot to mention that the big rig car transporter with all the new Chevys on it in the commercial was driving around. The one with the SSR facing backwards at the rear. That was a cool commercial and it was neat seeing it driving down Woodward.
