This has happened to me twice. Last year at a cruise I saw a teen looking very suspicious near my car (Frank/Bill you might remember this from Aurora). I kept watching him and then I notice that he is opening my door! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif So I walk over to him and ask what he is doing. Just mumbles and walks away.
Then a few weeks ago a Mom, Dad and their young boy checking out my car at a cruise. And again the kid opens my door then slams it all while the parents watch it happen. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif Again I say what the heck are you doing?! Neither the kid or parents say anything.
This happen to anyone else? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

Is this a respect thing or are you thinking possible theft? Either way its wrong.. If I come across a car at a show and just HAVE to set in it or something.. I get permission.. I know what you mean.

First case I suspect theft cause the kid was looking around before he sneaked to open the door.
Second case I suspect was just plain stupidity. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

There was a Corvette show in a Chevy dealer and I was asked to park the Coupe inside the showroom and a little kid (6 or 7) opened the door and sat in the car. I did not think anything of it in terms of the kid stealing anything but I told him the cars were on display and he should not sit in anyone's Vette. He got nervous and ran to his appoligetic parents.
It's not just some of our youth today,it's the adults as well.
I find Carshows command a lil more respect from people.
Car Cruises don't.
In 1998 at an area car cruise,a mother set a blanket on my closed deck lid,and then set her infant on that, and was going to use my car as a changing table to change a Dirty Diaper.I was across the aisle in conversation, and when I saw this unfolding,it felt like it was all happening in slow motion.I couldn't believe it. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
I ran up to her and yelled "STOP doing that, you Stupid B****!" once I got within 30 ft.She stopped immediately, picked up here half clad Baby & Blanket, rolled her eyes at me & walked huridly away.No apology,no return to apologize. She was as old as I was,and never thought she was doing anything wrong. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

To most people a car is nothing more than a way to get around. These people probably would not dream of doing the things mentioned to a brand new Mercedes yet they will to a restored muscle car. If they only knew that the value most of the time eclipses that of new Mercedes and sometimes the Mercedes owners house they might think twice.

I don't mind if im there and i see some kids come up to the car. If they look enthused, i would let them sit in it. Hey remember when you were a kid and you had the chance to sit in a muscle car?, to some of us it changed our life. I love the look on their face, the parents get a kick out of it too. During shows most people are respectful, but im usually close by.

I have a feeling a lot of diapers are going to be showing up around your car at the fall Vettefest. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I was at a small cruise-in a few months ago. There was a guy checking out the cars. If the owner didn't have their hood open, this guy would pop the hood to check it out. He onny did a couple before someone set him straight.

I seen some real good ones !!!
I called up about 10 Mopar owners(hemi's and sixpacks)in my area.Love crashing car shows with a bunch of killer Mopars
Car show was held in town with a parade. We come out of a diner and there is a guy sitting in the trunk of the car with his feet hanging out watching the parade. My friend(Very Big cop) grabbed him by his neck and pulled him out of the car. Didnt speak a lick of english. At that same show someone stole my buds fender tag to a very rare car.
Another show, we come out from eating and there is a guy under the dash trying to steal the radio from my friends car. Well No cops need when I punched him the face and we all drove off !!
How about the time when a couple with a baby stroller couldnt get threw and put a 17in scratch down the guys SuperBird quarter trying to get threw.
Got to love a daily driver, just park it and walk away.
I drive my daily driver 69 Coronet convert Red/Wht California black plate ALL original and I walk away, my little boy jumps all over inside the car and it just doesnt matter. But when I drive the show car I cant even take a piss.

Darren,
Yeah, I kinda remember something like that happening to you in Aurora http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif Unfortunately, those things do happen on occasion, but by far the majority of people are considerate. Maybe those bright colors attract the wrong crowd http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif I can honestly say I set my butt in someones elses car only ONCE in my life without asking.. but it was at the Tulsa Expo big auto Auction they have here now and then and it was a gorgous day2 57 Chevy (being FOR SALE and slated for the block I might add).. bench seat.. 4spd.. could NOT help myself.. opened the door.. set in it.. daydreamed for a minute or two.. and I made damn sure I didn't leave a fingernail scratch or even a crack print on the vinyl seat as I got out and walked away backwards looking at it... btw.. if the owner reads this.. I appologize for the drool.. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif But yes.. RESPECT has to be first and formost and if the owner is close by.. geez, just ask. hey can I set it in it? likely they'll say "well sure".. but helping yourself is just WRRRRROOOOOONNNNGGGGGG.. And deserving of an ass kicking.
