I am new to these posts, and am looking for help. My friend and I have the ZL1 block, that was purchased from John Greenwood, and we believe came out of John Greenwoods Corvette in his 1971 attempt at Daytona. It was listed on Greenwoods web site that the car came in 10th, due to engine failure. The lower part of the engine has damage, due to the fact that a rod let loose. I am wondering what the value of this block would be? Any help would be appreciated.

Guys, I am sorry but a badly damaged block would have little to no value to most of us. I would suggest that you post it on E-bay. Then anounce it on different auto forums.
Now if that was Don Yenkos or Dick Heralds, old race motor you might get some offers here.
Good luck and welcome to this forum. Hope you find a buyer for the block.

Is it the engine out of this car? It's running one of the new castings today.

Welcome. You have a real niche item, the guys here are pro Camaro / Drag, not Vette / Enduros. Greenwood had a special relationship with GM. For ppl like Penske, Mclaren Greenwood the engines they got received different stampings on the engine pad that are totally unique. As these blocks turn up so infrequently this fact is pretty well unknown.
If you can find any trace of a stamping on the pad please PM me. Don't look for a VIN style stamping the codes are totally different to what was put in cars.
With all due respect, you should wait till Edward T fills in his profile properly, as previously requested, just to keep everything on a relatively equal playing field-----Up to you though-- http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

I was not really worried about the damage to the block because it is repairable, but moreover leaving it as documintation that this is what happened to the block when it was used on Daytoyna.

If it is just left "as is" then that just makes it a rather expensive coffee table. I thing most of the guys on here would rather hear it run. I know I would.
But who am I to tell someone what to do with it. I only know for sure, what I would want to do with it.
