Thanks, there were MANY other cars I wanted on that movie. Somehow, we taped over a bunch of stuff - the camera got as much attention as the beer cooler that day.
Cool video... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Any school project that can legitimately include drag racing, Yenkos, and AC/DC, (not to mention a pic of Belair in his sun dress http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif) is worth an A+ in my book! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Mark, just got done watching the movie. I tried to down load it last night but I was having trouble with my computer. Anyhow, I got to hand it to you, you are very talented young man, and I am glad to be your friend. I gotta say you sure put a hurtin' on that yellow Yenko Nova. Was that "Marlin" driving? You sure came out of the gate on him, with the SS. Maybe his favorite color is NOT, green!!! LOL! Keep up the great work and stay in touch. PS: Sweeeeet pass with the NOVA, looks like dad was a little scared. But all was well! You made the Nova guys proud. -Later http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif

Running the SS with AWD and AUTO trans is a somewhat leisurely experience. I had the radio on and actually looked over (around the 1000 ft mark) and watched the guy in the yellow Nova RIP into forth and walk by me. That guy put his whole body into it - nice! I think he ran a 14.6 The Nova was a blast - but the last 2 times I saw smoke (white) in my rear view I cracked a ring landing and the other time I popped a head gasket. You can always tell as soon as you go up the return road. But the Nova was fine and felt great and it actually felt better going in the trailer than the last time we loaded it. I don't understand what could cause that? And I don't know if the smoke was just a puff because I got out of it as soon as I saw it in the mirror.

It may have come when you let out of it which is understandable...all those years of driving it on and off a trailer,it needed a good beating and probably idles like a kitten now!

Like we were talking about in the lobby, that car's been idling around for 4 years and needs some good runs on it!! I have found that the R43's foul easily on the street, and so I put R45's in until I'm ready to race - then it's back to the R43's. That's why the local chevy dealer made a parts run to the Holiday Inn parking lot on Thurs, brought me a new set of R43's. The more that orange deuce gets driven, the more fun it will be because you will be able to fine tune it a little better each time. Check the timing, and run good gas http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif
I was not the yellow car racing the SS, must have been Jerry. I think I was done and tired by then, and just wanted to go take a shower to cool off.

Could be any number of things, most of which are non-fatal. More than likely just loaded up from lack of "use"...something to consider is a plug change. Not necessarily the heat range (not a bad idea), but a "brand" change. Mo and I played around with spark plugs while on the dyno, and while AC's may look good, there are better choices...go Autolite, or even better NGK. It could also be how your engine is put together. Our car will "fog" on decelleration in the traps...too much oil in the top end of the engine. But, it puts out 400+ horsepower at the wheels, so I can deal with it...
I wouldn't sweat the smoke...it more than likely did the car some good to FINALLY stretch it's legs! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif
What they are all saying is, you and the Orange Deuce need to part of the SCR8 Deuce shoot out. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

I'd love to get behind the wheel of that thing again next year! Replace that GM Hyfire (?) box with and MSD and maybe next time I can pick the RIGHT tire size!!! I did measure - and was worried that a 275/60/15 would be to close. Oops, once we got to the reunion I noticed several guys running them. Then I quickly realized that the 235/60/15 (next size smaller) were a bad combo for those steep gears. BFG claims only a 2 inch difference in diameter (26 vs. 28) but it sure looked like more than that when I was looking at drew's car. They fit perfect.

Hmm, ran some numbers... assuming an M-22 (1.00 4th gear), 4.88's, and 235/60/15 with the GM box's rev-limit of 5800. That comes out to a top speed of 94!!! 6000 = 97, 6500 = 105, 6800 = 110. With 275/60/15 the numbers are 6000 = 104, 6500 = 113, 6800 = 118...

I just wanted to say thanks for catching my car on video. Even though that was my slowest run of the day (passenger on board, keep it above 14 sec!) It was good to see my car had clean pipes all the way down the track! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

I was down track when you made the pass with the "smoke", it looked white and I thought it was steam. You might want to make sure the oil is not contaminated (you can get your oil analyzed at places like this one (http://www.blackstone-labs.com/gasoline_diesel_report_expl.html) )

Steam... a few people brought that up when I came back... you said from "contaminated oil" do you mean condensation in the block over the years ends up in the oil? I would think it would not mix, end evaporate out the valve cover breather? Or leaking headgasket causing coolant to be burned in the chamber and the steam goes out the exhaust? But usually when I have had that problem (even very minor) the combustion pressure makes its way into the cooling system and out the relief on the radiator cap... Or condensation in the exhaust? Maybe it took till 4th gear to get the majority of the exhaust hot enough to burn enough to make that much steam - sounds kind of strange - but sometimes anything is possible... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I don't have a ready explanation if the oil and coolant didn't mix (that's been my experience with steam in the exhaust, leaky head gasket). I thought perhaps getting an oil sample analyzed could put your mind at ease with respect to the engine's condition. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif

Just my 2 cents worth but I thought that the smoke was some late in coming in 4 bbl. opening. Just a thought. Just remember my motto.

Mark, remember when I bought the 1969 GTO Judge (40k), and you (and your DAD) were giving me your expert tutelage on "POWER SHIFTING". When I got home, remember how bad the engine smoked, found out later I cracked the #7, oil ring, on top of, god knows how many valves were sticking. I had a ton of "blow by", exiting from the vent tube. The Judge had sat for so long, and then I buy it and go out and run the crap out of it. Probably a "No, No"!! (We did have a lot of fun blowing away Hondas-HA, HA!)
Anyway, should make sure the "Motion", is good and ready for next year. Take off the rev.limiter and let it go to about 7 grand. This could be the "Motion" that makes good on Mr. Rosen's promise of "Mid 11's".

Maybe it was a carb problem, or just something with the carb or fuel? It looked like the steam or whatever came from both pipes? My carb set to rich its black smoke, and it definitely wasn't blue. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif
