How hard is it to find a working Hone Overdrive used in some Motion cars? How much do they generally sell for?

How about this one from Gear Vendors (http://www.gearvendors.com/cg2wd3s.html) ?

They are on ebay from time to time normally in the $1,200 to $2,000 range. The shifter is very difficult to find. If you don't care about originality, the gear vendors unit is the way to go, however, on some cars the transmission tunnel needs modification.

This is a 73 Corvette with a 454 and TH400.

Hard decision given a choice between the 2.

You will have a hard time getting it into that tranny tunnel. With a 4 speed there is a little room next to the tranny, but a Turbo leaves none what so ever. That will make it way out into the passenger side floor.

You're talking about the Hone, right? Why would it be in the passenger side?

From what I've read, both the Hone-O-Drive and the Gear Vendors are behind the transmission, resulting in a shorter drive shaft.

The Hone has no rebuild parts available... the Gear Vendors would have a warranty & parts available.

The lever usually has to go on the passenger side of the tranny tunnel so the driver can reach it. I was looking at Hasslets last year and that is were his lever is.

With the wider and longer tail housing of a Th400 you may have a problem fitting it in.

sorry I just came in from Marguretas with dinner and said it all wrong. Hope that makes better sense? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

I missed one for 1300 a year ago and one went for 2600 on ebay last year----Gear vendors is a good unit so's American Overdrive---Whatever you decide--Don't shorten your Driveshaft--Get another one made, this way if you have problems you can drop your unit and install your old driveshaft until the overdrive is repaired---

Good tip Joe. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif
For the price of a new shaft compared to cutting yours...
I personally would go with a NEW shaft & OD unit.
Good Luck. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
