Have any members seen or know about this aluminum block with the extra rail along the drivers side bottom and it runs almost to the front of the block, dry sump maybe I don't know. Have a look at the pics, no numbers at all any place and it is a water block 427 ci overbore .030 and it's not like my 052 aluminum block. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Thanks

We did a tear down of this engine and here is a better look at the rail, however I thought it was an oil rail but has turned out to be a coolant rail.
have a look.

Any ideas what this block might be ? marine or ?? can am ?
mike
thanks
It could be an early block used by Jim Hall before they made the upgraded "CanAm" block. I have seen pictures of this block somewhere. Jim Hall was getting special parts from Chevy and was helping develope the early BB Chevy engine. Maybe you can try and contact Jim Hall or someone who worked with him in 1966 or 67. I hear Jim is difficult to get info from but worth a try.

Joe, Jim halls blocks (or at least the one in photo hanging off chains in front of the coupe )had the same two vertical reinforcemenr ribs that all ZL1s seem to have. This does not appear to have them. That of course does'nt mean this isn't one.
Would guess its an aftermarket engine except its bore size kind of dates it as a early engine.
Don't know the storey Mike but keep digging. Have you tried the Can Am guys ??

We gave the block a light hone, really it didn't heed to be freshened but we had an intake gasket sucking some oil in and oh well new rings bearings and a new larger pan and smaller cc heads for just a little more squeeze.

The block is clean and ready for some new parts.

Hopefully these heads will fit brand new Nos 077 GM heads but they have been milled down and untill we do the math I won't know for sure. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

The intake was ported and you can see by the top bolt hole it has not got alot of material around it and that is where the oil got sucked in. We used a race gasket on it but a different manufacture intake gasket will fix this problem.

These 077 heads we removed 118 cc s with extensive porting. I had these heads on my pro street malibu that ran 140 mph at 9.50 et on the motor, they work real nice.

A picture is worth a thousand words and here posing are a pair of 427 ci motors that for the first time I have had them in the same picture together, but sadly I have sold one off, to a good friend that will take care of it. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

I enjoy taking and posting ZL1 engine pics. I just hope I don't regret selling off the better ZL1 engine.

Very nice Mike. I new from the pictures you sent me that you had some nice cars, but these pics are making me drewl a bit. I trust you are building something else with the money from that 052 block you sold? My car is coming along nicely and is near completion. I am now starting to plan for the next cars restoration. Black Yenko. Cheers Mike and here is a link to my site where many pictures of the Z were recently updated!
