Didn't really get any definitive answers over on TC so I'll try here.
Other GM Divisions were using Hurst Shifters in A-Bodies for years. In 1969 Chev put them in Camaros, but why not Chevelles? Anybody got any facts or opinions? Appreciate it.

Chevrolet was too cheap, per Campbell - head of Hurst's shifter plant in Warminster, PA. He told me that GM in general was always beating them up on cost, hence the round stock arms, but Chev. especially.

Probably becuase GM was pushing their camaro as there come and get it HI-PO car. I guess they didn't think spending the extra money was going to help novas or chevelles sales. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Good question Don. I tend to agree with Sam. Seems the Chevelles and Novas got the Muncie 'bolt to the cross member shifters' thru 1972.
BTW...I enjoyed seeing your Blue Beast at the Forge Muscle Car show last weekend. First time I've ever seen a 69 300 Deluxe with a 396. Really cool! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
Put the original bench seat shifter handle in it. It will add to the overall appeal of the car. I may have one if your in need. In any case, enjoy your 'special' car!

You would think that Muncie contraption would be more costly to purchase and install...

You are right about all the JUNK pieces. I think Ole George H. wanted alot of money for his name.

Hurst produced many OEM shifters , speed parts and had a hand in the highly desirable 1968 Super Stock Hemi Cudas.
In the same light, certain Hurst parts are sought after for their historic value and have fetched high $$ in the past.

All the 68 Hemi Race Barracudas had to be picked up at the Hurst facility. They mated the engine to the body and some other finish work. They also delivered any spare parts etc. you may have ordered.
