I'm going to be posting Yenko Deuce detail pics in this thread. This will help me catch up on my backlog of Deuce books that I need to send out. The resto section of the book will now be a simple reference to this thread.

Here is the first detail pic, the infamous GTO/Tempest bench seat Hurst shifter arm that was attached to the '69 Camaro Z28 shifter with small block attaching bracket and big block shifter rods. The '69 Camaro boot/bezel combination was also utilized. The additional boot/bezel that is commonly found will be in another pic.

Hurst arm #4177.

This extra boot/bezel combination has been found on many of the 4speed Deuces. Our research indicates that Yenko installed them, but not consistently. The original GM boot/bezel is always underneath. It appears to be the same combination that was installed on the standard a/t shifter, the Autostick.

What about the aftermarket hurst shifter stick shown in the pic? Is it confirmed that Yenko put the hurst super boot over the existing factory boot, or could this just be something that owners did "day 2" style for the full "Hurst look" ? Seems odd that Don would spend an extra nickel to add a second shift boot.

Joe, I think Marlin is just useing that picture as an example of the boot. I'm fairly sure that's a picture of Engler's deuce on arrival here from Fla. That shifter was installed in the 70s by a previous owner. Schonye

I figured that Ken, but I was just wondering why it is believed the big honkin' Hurst SuperBoots were installed over the exisiting factory boot from Yenko... I could see owners doing it, but would think it to be odd for Yenko to do it at Canonsburg before the cars were sold new... did it happen on the PA built cars, or just the Deuces done at Hurst? Maybe Hurst threw them in there at no extra cost to Yenko for a little additional advertising for their products? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Joe that info is new to me on the boots. My sf yellow deuce only has the one boot and it was a Hurst car. Schonye

They are found on cars with the original shifter, and on both PA cars and Hurst cars. We believe Yenko was doing some extra advertising for the Hurst shifter in the Nova. It's a hit or miss thing, inconsistent, but when original owners are contacted, they say it was in the car when they purchased it. Could also be a purchasing dealer install, but unlikely, they usually went with the trim rings, bumper guards, etc... dressy items.

Maybe they ordered too many boots for the auto shifters and decided to use them up on some of the 4 speed cars?

Possibly, but not likely. From the info we have on the a/t deuces, the shifter came in the standard Hurst box along with a brochure, parts list, and instruction manual. So, the logic is that the boot bezel was included in the 'box' and not ordered separately. Knowing Yenko's frugalness, we assume that Yenko got Hurst to send him a batch for free - would explain a lot!

No doubt theres a story behind it, and I will bet my last dollar that Don didn't just order a bunch of extra shifter boots for full retail price and randomly install them at no extra cost to the consumer... Would be nice to know what the real story is for sure...Too bad Don isn't around to answer these types of questions we may never know the true answers to.

Agree, on both counts.

Rob has a good idea for this thread/topic. I'm going to scan all of my pics, then work with Rob to make one thread with them without any replies intermingled. We can then start individual threads per topic or detail pic. So, we'll relaunch this one after I get my pics scanned, and explanations written.

Marlin,
I was told to talk to you about finding the center caps for a 1970 yenko deuce. Even a clear picture of what they should look like would be of great help to me
