Was looking thru an old issue of super chevy September 2000, and there was a little picture of a 68 Yenko camaro that was at Super Chevy Memphis. Under the picture it said that "rumors have it that Vance Shappley's low mileage '68 Yenko camaro has never been registered-and never restored. Was wondering if anyone has ever seen or heard about this car.

Hello folks. I'm a newbie here reading old posts. Yes this car does exist. I've driven it.

Seems like little has been posted about this '68 Yenko here in the past?
Is all as good as it seems also a non 9737 would be no MM tag or 140 Speedo etc, correct?
Been for sale elsewhere lately but on the block @ the May 13-18 Mecum Spring Auction.

From the ad: <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">A period photo of the car shows that it deceptively displayed “396 Cu. In.” lettering on the front fenders, causing more than one competitor to wonder why they could never catch it. What they did not know was that Lancaster had removed and stored the Yenko engine and replaced it with a specially built dual tunnel-ram 427 CI unit for competition. Lancaster showed great foresight in also removing and storing the original interior components for posterity.</div></div>

<span style="font-style: italic">These first 20 cars were built without the COPO 9737 designation that included heavier-duty cooling systems, suspension and brake upgrades. </span>

Above is from the ad. I think it is a typo. Should read <span style="font-weight: bold">with</span> 9737 I believe. My car is on that letter too. ??

Saw that too and it's confusing as they're referring to the subject car being a pre 9737 car?
Isn't the Desert Rat an earlier car but w/ 9737 hence your MM tag etc?
They note the first 20 cars converted as pre 9737, I was thinking the # was way less?
Don't MM tags start exactly w/ the 9737 and 140 speedo/cooling/suspension/brakes also MV suffix etc all appear at once w/ the package?
Is it known if any of the converted '68 pre 9737 cars were ordered w/ HD cooling or anything else specific for a planned conversion?
