As some of you know, I have never been able to verify that my 69 Nova was purchased new at Charlie Collins Chevrolet in Bayonne NJ. When I bought the car last summer the seller handed me a copy of an invoice showing the car to be a L-78 purchased new at CCC in April of 1969. That and $3.00 will buy me a cup of coffee. However, I have been unable to prove that any of the info. on the invoice is false. I'm not trying to verify the authenticity of the car because the seller was very up front about the non-matching drivetrain. However, he did claim it was originally a BB/SS car. I would like to verify that. To get to my point, I am considering taking out a classified ad in the local Bayonne newspaper and offering some kind of reward for pictures, ads, receipts, etc.. to verify CCC actually existed. I have been unable to do this through NJ DMV and the Bayonne Dept.of Commerce. Do you guys have any thoughts on this? Marc

How about checking the old newpapers on microfilm at the Bayonne library for ads for the dealership ?

Better still, try the library collection of R.L. Polk city directories. They are almost like the old Yellow Pages phone books, but with more information.

Both good ideas guys. I was hoping to get out of this without having to take a trip to Bayonne but I may have to. The phone # listed on the invoice is "Federal 9-5353". I'm too young to remember phone numbers like that. Marc http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

shor,
Don't want to butt in here, but as long as you have that phone book in front of you, would you mind looking up the Chevy dealers in Bloomfield, NJ? I think my '62 was delivered there.
Thanks.......no rush.

Shor, Absolutely! Let me know what I can give you for your troubles as well. My email is [email protected]. This is the first ray of sunshine I've had in a while. How do you get yellow pages from the '60s? That paper lasts 40 years? I'm suprised the dealer zone website isn't all inclusive. After all, these are car dealerships not mom and pop stores. I felt better when Dworin Chevrolet in E.Hartford Ct wasn't listed there. My mom and dad bought all there cars there when I was a kid so I knew it existed but that website didn't have them. Thanks ever so much shor. Marc http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Marc I was not trying to nail ya. Sorry if it came off like that. All I was trying to say is that the dealers are entered by different people as time goes by. If a dealer is not in the database it is probably because no one has entered it yet for one reason or another. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Guys, I just got off the phone with my brother-in-law. He took the VIN# from my 69 Nova and is going to get one of his "connected" cop friends to get me a NCIB report. I have never had a car checked through this and I would like to know exactly what it will tell me. He said to give him a week. So what's on this report?? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gifMarc

Any address on the invoice? Or maybe just the street.

probably just the zone and dealer #'s, maybe more, but I've had some come back with nothing. Apparently, if the dealership was really small, or didn't subscribe to the NICB, then they won't have a record.

You can view the copy of the invoice I have in the tech. and resto forum. If I remember right it's titled "69BB Nova- pics added" I'm going to go try to bump it up to the front now. It's a terrible copy but by turning your head sideways and squinting you can see it OK. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

JH, It's in the tech. and resto. forum under "69BB Identification - pictures added" It's attached to the 5th post down. Pictures of the car are on the Nova Research website thanks to Greg Roberts. Marc

Hey! I did find something on the NJ State Business name search, this is how it is listed 1 AMERICAN BY CAR, INC. (CHARLIE COLLINS CHEVROLET ) And as far as I can tell they are still in business.

I can't argue with that Belair. JH, what did you use for a search keyword? Can you give these guys a link? Did you get the info. from that invoice copy? It seems CCC was in business from 62 to 88 and did business under 3 different names. I'd like to purchase the more detailed report. Marc

Most States have a Business name service so if you starting a business, no two same names. If you put a business name in (Charlie Collins)under name search it will come up with the report I sent you. Like I say most states have it.

If you get this form http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/opra/index.html you can send for a vehicle history, it will take a while, but well worth it! I did one through Tennesee and got all kinds of stuff from them.
