My `70 Chevelle dash is showing it`s age, it appears the previous owner attempted to touch up the silver highlights and missed on a few dabs and got the paint on the black "Leather Grain" dash itself. Any way to get this off without ruining or "melting" the plastic as can be done with thinners? This being on an original SS396 Convt. Any leads on anyone who restores the dash (Housing) please let me know. Unfortunately the radio holes were opened up a little http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif, luckily you can`t notice when the stock radio is installed http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Anyone have any luck with the aftermarket dash? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif Do they line up and fit correctly? I was thinking of putting one in and keeping the original.
I drive this car, it`s what they were made for. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif
Thanks and "Happy New Year",

Thanks for the reply. It`s not my pad that`s bad, it`s the plastic housing. On the `70 Chevelles it runs the entire width of the dash, this may be a problem shipping.
I live near "Tamraz" aftermarket parts supplier, and they offer a dash, but I`m not sure if it`ll fit right. I would be able to pick this up myself. Problem being with some aftermarket parts is that it may look beautiful, until you try to get it to fit http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif.
Thanks again,
Jim

Jim, here is a link for Plastic Rechroming Service.
http://www.laysons.com/html.cfm?html/services.html
I havent used them or know anyone who has.
The reproductions are not good enough to pass the muster with most clubs or shows without deducts. I know other members have had dashs replated with good results. Dont have info on who they used to do it.
Good Luck, Rick
