This seller is a member of www.nastyz28.com (http://www.nastyz28.com) and WE (collectively) are all OVER this sale. I have written seller with a list of questions which will greatly IMPACT the value of car and/or restoration COSTS....
The car in question is same color ORIGINALLY (Classic Copper) as my current 70 L-78

There is one of these roaming around down here in SoCal, but I am certain it's not a 375HP car! This one down here even has the endura rear bumper strips on it! It is an 396/T-400 RS/SS in Hugger Orange with a Black Vinyl roof and standard black buckets... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

To all who have responded, Thanks for the positive comments. After seeing pictures of some of your cars I appreciate the words more. Hopefully someone will see potential in my car and have the resources to take it to a higher level closer to where some of your vehicles are.

Canadian SS...Can you post or email me a pic of the entire trim tag including the rivets and body and paint fonts on the tag blank? Thanks, Mark.

I might have some interest in this car since it is local to me. Any of the '70 experts care to comment on the car and the trim tag flaws? Are there hidden VINs stamped in the body somewhere on the '70 cars? Anyone have a good shot of a known original L78 trim tag with original rivets that they can post for comparison? If you prefer to PM me, please do so. Thanks for any help that might be provided.

Canadian SS...I saw the rivet pics on your webshots page, but I'd still like to see the "Body" and "PNT" fonts on the top right. Very cool car!

Thanks Canadian SS. I saw the pics that you added, but none show the right side of the tag. It's obvious to everyone that the tag has been removed at some time.
So the question is why? Being a Canadian car, my first thought was rust and the car was sand blasted. However, you show shots of the floors being rust free with the original red primer still on them...so I don't think that this particular body was blasted. Are there any signs of the original color still on the body anywhere?

Then the next thought is why is a Canadian car so clean? So one obviously thinks rebody...and maybe that explains why the tag was replaced??? But it was a BC delivered car, so it could be that clean if it stayed there for most of its life??? Do you know much about the history of the car?

And what about the misalignment of the stampings on the trim tag? I've seen a line or two misaligned by one character, but never anything like yours??? So one thinks repoped tag??? The only way to confirm that it isn't repopped is to compare it to a known original (that I now have), but the shots you have posted do not show enough of the tag blank to make a clear comparison. I'm sure a number of us that are interested in the car and need this info to proceed and make a serious attempt at buying the car. It might be worth your while to take some better photos before the auction ends.

It's a neat car and needs to have this issue cleared up to bring top dollar, but that's your call.

Good luck.

Mark, It is a bit late so I will hold off on the call for tonight. What I do know is that the car was first registered in Ontario in 1985 after being in BC I am not sure how long it was in BC before coming here. I first saw this car in about 91. The original engine was on an engine stand then, and a 71 Monte carlo donor BB was in it. Car was black, paint was poor but car looked solid. The price was $4000.00..I passed due to a 69 rag I had just bought.. I saw it again in 92 or 93. Same owner, it was freshly painted but car was not for sale. I bought it in Aug 03 after keeping tabs on the its location for 10 years. Like I stated this cars body and paint was done early 90s. Previous owner states that all new NOS panels were added due to dents and some rust but that the floor was still in great shape. I am no body man but for a black car it seems very straight. The actual paint is not perfect but it looks good enough for me. Some of the copper paint is still visible on the cowl area as well as other spots. I was not aware it had the original motor until a few months ago. I knew it was the right CKO block but I didnt know the vin was located by the oil filter until reading that this is a possible location to find it.
If this car does not sell then the engine will be removed and another big block will be installed and beat on until I have the time and resources to redo this car right. I guess the first thing to be replaced will be the rivets, hehe.. Sorry to ramble on but hopefully this answers a few questions for you as well as others...

Thanks John,

Give me a call at my office tomorrow if you can. I'm in all day.

That's good to hear that some of the original copper color is still showing.

Looking forward to speaking with you tomorrow. I'm sure we have some friends in common given your location and interest in Camaros. I'm actually looking for a Camaro guy in Kitchener that I have lost touch with so maybe you can help me locate him.

Talk to you tomorrow,

If you are refering to the 67 Z28 I heard it just sold in the last week or so. But there are a few other diamonds in the rough around here.

Yeah, that's the guy. I know where the original motor and tranny are from that car and have copies of the original bill of sale etc. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I also had some other original parts from that car - trac bar, valve covers, shifter etc. but sold them to my friend when he bought my red/red '67 Z-28.

Small world Mark, I was just talking to a few guys yesterday about that same car. Its been around here forever but was forgotten about after being put away years ago...
That is if its the same car as there is also another 67Z
X race car that I heard about.

Zedder

Definitely the same car. I was in touch with the guy (Jim) years ago but his price was unreasonable for the car. The guy keeps moving and has an unlisted number, so I lost track of him. Then out of the blue a guy calls me on a wanted ad and tells me he was the original owner of a black RS Z and had some of the parts left over from it when he sold it in 1968. Sure enough it's the same car! I go and buy the parts and he shows me the bill of sale and some old time slips from the drag races http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif When he sold the Z he kept the drivetrain out of the car and put it in another '67 body and drove that car for a few years. He told me who he sold it to and I tracked the guy down out west - and he still owns the car with the Z drivetrain http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif Unfortunately, he thinks the motor and tranny are worth $10,000 http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Mark, I am curious to know if the 67Z you mention on your home page is the same one we talked about the other night. I have had a lot of questions about the L78 and as of today there are over 130 people watching the ebay auction. Should be interesting to see what happens next Tuesday..

Hi John, Good talking to you the other day. No, that is a different car http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My guess is your car will go in the $25K range or maybe a little more. In addition to the other 2 L78's I told you about the other day, I heard of 2 more local cars! Hard to believe there are that many '70 L78's in this area http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Good luck with the auction.

documented cars. No wonder you can’t find one, They are all up in Canada *LOL*

Just a note to thank everyone for the info and words during this most difficult time in my life.... There are less than 20 hours until I know if I am with or without my car. This was my first and possibly last ebay car auction. There have been well over 8000 visits to the auction and I feel like each hit requested some sort of information to be typed out.. It has been a long 10 days. I need a nap..

Well since the reserve was not met so I will hang onto the car for a bit longer. I am not sure what the future holds for it but I hope it isn't claustrophobic as it may be locked in seclusion for a while.... Either that or I'll just keep driving it like I stole it. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif
