Only 49 of the cars had the RS option????????? Is this guy bass ackwards or is it me?

Charley has the actual Pace Car I believe. AJ would have received that car but he didn't want it because it didn't have AC. So I guess they gave him another car that had AC.
I don't see the Seller showing any proof it was AJ Foyt's car other than it has A/C.
There sure seem to have been quite a few 67 Pace Cars for sale recently. I always here the number of cars built to be 100, but that seems low given the # of cars that have popped up over the years.

If my memory serves me;wasn't it Mario Andretti who didn't want the actual 1969 Indy Pace car since it didn't have air conditioning? Dave

The real Foyt award car was made after the race at Norwood and was 0-1 coded in a batch of cars that were marked for Canadian sale.
The second car for auction - is a good car and well worth considering. (Original Tires on this one http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif)
Are there really only two 67 PC's that came with A/C?

Ya'll are funny sometimes! Interestingly too, as there was another thread here on sYc that discussed the ZZ on a trim tag, here we have a tag with an H stamped up hi into the basic fonts. Anyways,"70 COPO"...LA DID INDEED build these cars and I had a thread here on sYc months ago about LA built cars. Although I am not the authority on what plant AJ's car was assembled at,This car does seem correct to me as the C-1 was used later in the run on these cars, and the one I referred to in a prior post had an 0-1 code on an LA car! That car was a power glide car too alike this one, although when my friend found that one and bought it, it had a complete 4-speed set-up in it! Will have to try to locate that thread again, but...YES! Van Nuys did INDEED build these as well as Norwood!

Yes I know C-1 coded L-181-A Pace cars were made at Los.
The Trim tag you attached is correct. It is Vin #840 and was owned by Jim B. I am a little confused by what you are saying... . Are you saying LA built 0-1 coded 1967 pace cars? That car exists! There was gentleman by the name of Jerry D. who found that car...Jerry was sort of a miracle worker in locating Camaros way back when and found that car up in Yucaipa, California!(He even used to race at Acsot-on dirt-a 1969 Black RS-Z28) I doc'd that car as he called me to come and see this thing back in the late 80's. It was mind blowing to say the least as he couldn't even believe what he was seeing himself. That car had a 396 4-speed in it and the trans hump had a hole for a shift cable to be used. We did much consideration over what GM might have done at that time! We eventually felt that GM had to push thru several chassis in order to make the deadline to deliver these cars for pre-race issues. I recall on that car that there were other small things that were QUITE unique to it as well! For example, that car had metal grab bars on both the rear seat passenger areas up hi on the metal inner panels. There was also a grab bar just under the passenger's side A-frame of the windshield...under the chrome top panels because the top wouldnt close if it was on top! That car was still in it's original paint and still carried the blue pin striping all the way along the top of the body line! His car was a LOS built car! I think later down the line he had some rear flags made up for it alike the one in the other auction in Texas. I am doing my best to remember that car because it has been so long since I've seen it!....I do remember that it was a very early car, something like a January build I think...but it has been almost 15 years since Ive seen it. I can try to call him and see if he has any pics leftover from those days as I know he sold it several years ago as he got out of doing Camaros. Are you referring to a Jerry that lived out by Riverside California? I remember he owned a block of houses in a row and all the houses had really big lots. He built fences a few feet away from the back of each home so the renters had small back yards and he had this big camaro wrecking yard in a residential neighborhood that you could only see from the air. I bought a Z10 pace car coupe from him and I remember he had quite a collection of 67 through 69 camaros and a orange superbird.

Not a problem. That Z10 got sold to a guy in Texas. Did you know another guy in the Redding area that owned a roofing company (I think). I bought a 1967 R/S Z/28 from him that ended up in Hawaii. He had a 1969 L89 camaro, 1969 COPO camaro and another 1967 Z/28. He had a hugger orange 1969 L78 camaro that had deluxe interior. It was partially taken apart but it had very low miles and he only wanted $5,500. I hesitated because I was afraid my wife would be upset if I brought home another project and I missed out on a nice car.

Ok, you guys have done the impossible, you have confused me beyond my normal state of confusion. If Charley has the actual pace car because AJ wanted one with air, would not the air car have been built after the race? If AJ knew prior to the race that he wanted a car other then the one planned for the actual race, would not the one he wanted been built prior and used at the race so the winning driver did get the actual pace car? And why would a car that was going to be used at Indy be built all the way on the west coast instead of next door to Indy at Norwood? Hmmm......

The Foyt award car was made in June. It is possible that Foyt also owned another replica later, but the car in the auction is not the award car.
The Track cars were modified for track use and the award cars were stock factory examples.

I agree with you Motown! And, my sharing the fact that the later cars would have recieved the "C-1" paint code by the time this car was ordered, assembled, etc....
As for 70 COPO, I personally have no knowledge of where the latter car was ordered thru whatsoever, but I would find it interesting to read those documents that help support where that car was processed thru. As I am not the authority on the aj car, were you pretty sure it was to be with that group assembled for delivery to Canada at that time back then? The story first appears in the 1990 Crispino-Hooper book :"Chevrolet Indy Pace Car Book" Where the sources interviewed all tell the same story that AJ turned down the original award car because "it got hot in Texas" and told Chevrolet to build him another car with AC, and as the story goes the sources for the book stated that the car that was specially built for AJ was built in the same run as the Canadian cars.
Also same story in support the Foyt award car being built in the Canadian run was again repeated from different sources in the 1992 USCC Pace car registry report:

Ken Moorhead Matt Murphy, Bob Harris, Jim Hariston, and Mark Campbell.
But who knows they could all be wrong - and the guy on E-bay could be right!!!

I dont want to have this thread go away from the originator's intent of he 67 Pace Car discussion so I will not add more to his on the 69's other than I felt that late May to late June, but, I think CRG is the place to answer this! Redding, as in Redding, California? If so, with my luck, I was probably living next door or something and missed all the excitement. I went to a CAM club meeting (Classic American Muscle cars meeting) and there's some people here with some pretty nice cars, actually. In fact, one guy (Clyde) has like 40 nice muscle cars, and one is actually a '67 Indy Pace car 396. Here I thought I was cool with two. Heh.
