For those of you also following Russo and Steele be advised that this car sold at 1.9 million dollars. Much of the original esssence of car was maintained during the restoration. This car blew my mind. IMO the highest impact vehicle at any of the auctions in AZ this last weekend. I recall that much of the history on this car has been posted here. I'm working on getting pics to Hawaiian Camaro.

Another source informed me that the FIA 289 car at R & S sold at 1.9 million and the King Cobra sold at 550K. I'll try to double check today. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif (I photographed the car during the day but didn't watch it go through at night)

That sounds right. The 289 car was a Shelby owned and operated road racing car, if I remember right. I never even saw mention of the Motion Cobra on their web site... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

I can't get enough of these King Cobra photos! The 'Cobra crowd' snubs this car for two reasons. One, because it was not a true pedigree Shelby backed racer with a history of 'famous drivers' and two, they consider drag racing a simpletons sport not needing any skill.
Don't ya just wanna jump in that thing and sidestep the clutch!!
Thanks for the pics...(got more? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif)

Here's a photo of the car back in the day. From a Marty Schorr book on Fords. The caption says the owner was Clem Hoppe of Ridgefield, NJ, and that he had converted the car to drag use from a stock 427. The car held a NASCAR national record of 10.64/131mph with a 427 medium riser, 4-speed, 4:88 gears.

Here's a similar drag-only 427. This one was sponsored by Harr Ford and driven by Gus Zuidema.

This car is still alive and well. I just read a blurb about it in Hemmings Muscle Machines. Great PICS!
