After reading the large responses to the threads about George's 1969 Yenko Chevelle and Charlie's barn find Corvettes, I thought it might be fun to duscuss rare muscle/race/supercars that we know about but keep under our hats. Everyone knows of at least one car that they've heard about or seen that can't be bought yet for whatever reason. Nobody needs to divulge locations but let's just hear what's out there. Here's a couple of mine: a one owner 1968 L-79 Nova that been parked for almost 20 years (almost was able to buy it last summer)and a 1961 Fuelie Vette that's been parked since 1970. I remember a real 1963 Z-11 aluminum front Impala parked outside of a backyard garage for years back in the eighties. That one is long gone!

--------How about a one owner 64 421/4spd/8-lugs/tri-power Grand Prix? White with turquoise interior with 41000 original miles. Nice older owner seems to want to sell but has had his head filled with mis-information about its value. Its not without its problems but would be a relatively easy resto as all original parts are there, but $30,000 is just out of the question. I keep in touch with him as I keep hoping he will see the light before something disasterous happens to it...........Bill S

Second owner (since 1972) unrestored, all original (except for wrong carb) 1969 Z-28. Flat hood, blue w/white stripes, approx 70k miles. I have been trying to buy this since 1978. 1969 FG Yenko Chevelle ( same owner since at least 1985), now under restoration. Both in Western PA/Pittsburgh area.

Two years ago, I heard about an old Camaro drag car in a backyard. I found the car and it happened to be a real 1968 Z/28. It had Mighty Mouse lettered on the side and I could have bought it for $500.00. The car was very rough but did have the title. I didn't think the car was savable but I watched it sell on E-bay later for $3200. I think someone even posted photos of it on this site.

I love these hidden car stories!
I know of a 1972 Z28 sitting since late 70s in a neighboring town... Dark Green on Black, black stripes 4-spd, Possibly for sale. My neighbor has a Delorean (sp?) sitting at least for the last 17-20 years.

I have been after this car since 1997. 1970 Nova L78, M21 4 speed, Forest Green, rubber floor mat, 20,200 miles. The car has been with it's second owner since 1971. Original motor is out of it in the garage while he had a 427 under the hood racing it. Orig paint etc. Car has been sitting out for a few years now so it needs restored. The owner has all the paperwork and orig window sticker and many vintage pics of it while he was at the strip in the early 70's. The original selling dealer was Celozzi-Ettleson Chevrolet in Elmhurst, ILL. Oh and it IS NOT FOR SALE, he is gonna fix her up some day! Yeah right! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

How about a FG Yenko Camaro buried up to the posts in a farmer's field with no VIN or trim tag on it because they are on another FG car? Oops, wasn't supposed to bring that one up!

There is a DY Y Chevelle hidden somewhere within a 40 mile radius of me, my brother and I are trying to find the magic farmer who owns it.

I know these sound pretty sarcastic, but I am serious.

About 4 years ago, a friend and I discovered a 1967 Corvette: roadster, 427-400 HP, red with white and black interior still in the possesion of the original owner that worked at the Corvette plant when the car was built. Parked in the garage since 1975 and was sold to help pay for the son's college tuition. 25K bought the 31,000 mile car.

There was/is a Cortez silver L78 70 Nova with under 20k miles on it close to me.Sold new at Mancuso Chevrolet in Skokie....not sure if he still lives there or if it actually is even in the garage anymore...haven't been in touch for several years and each time I go by no one is around.I knew his younger brother who had the 70 Nova with an LT 1 in it that I can't confirm because I can't find him either....also sold at Mancuso...wish I could remember if it was a factory LT 1 or built to LT 1 specs. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

There is a house near where my brother lives. In the drive way sat a 78 Z28, 70 SS 396 Chevelle, 70 RS Z/28 and a 71 SS Chevelle convertible. I watched them all rust away. Once I was chased a way but most other times no one answered the door. Cars a gone now. Probably sunk right thru to the ground. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif Rick you know about this one.

Found another house that has what looks to be 2 67-68 Firebirds under tarps and a 64 or 65 Comet rolling chassis.

Years ago on a vacation I found a 69 SS 350 pace car in back of a restaurant. Just sitting there among some other older cars. Owner wasn't budging at the time. Follow up phone calls didn't work either.

After taking my son for a walk a few years ago my wife told me she thought there was a Camaro in a garage 2 blocks away. Sure enough I found that this person bought his brothers 69 RS Z/28 Olympic Gold. Currently he is restoring the car. Should be done soon.

There are several rotting away within a couple miles of my house. One guy has two 40 Ford Coupes, a 70 Chevy truck and three Corvettes. The Corvettes are a 58, a 63 split window and a 71. I talked to the owner a little over a year ago. The 58 and 63 have been sitting for over 20 years and are in pretty rough shape but the 71 looks drivable. The 58 and 63 have been covered with blue tarps for the last 3 years. Another guy has a 69 Chevelle SS sitting in a field across from his house. I looked at this car and talked to the owned last year. Everything seems to be there except the engine. The only reason the car is not rusted away is because it is sitting on a concrete slab. Same story with all these cars, no interest in selling.

Back in 1985 I was driving home from a ROTC class at UC Berkeley when I took a short-cut up a residential side street. As I drove up this narrow street I noticed a big wing sticking up from a parked car. It was a Hemi Daytona (HEMI emblem on the door), white, black int. and rear body band. Stock black wheels, no wheelcovers/caps, whitewall tires, looked like the car had just been rolled out of the garage after long-term storage and parked in the street. I knew no one would believe me so I raced home, grabbed my Nikon and went back and took a picture (I'll go look for it). The car was there for about a week and then gone. Never saw it again.

Whew! Found the pic of the Hemi Daytona. Again, it was just parked in the street. I should have knocked on the door but I was a poor college student in 1985. I probably could have gotten this car for what? 10K in 1985? Maybe it's still there, rolled back into the garage after I grabbed this picture...

There is a Blue Hemi Superbird, original owner, with 6K-7K miles in Wilmington NC, owner still gets this one out and stretches its legs a little. There is a 66 427(horsepower unknown)Corvette Coupe, Red, with less than 300 miles, all tags in place, I have never actually seen this car, but my dads first cousin lives in the town where it is and he has seen it, supposedly the mans son bought and then died in Vietnam, don't what has ever been offered for it or if you can even approach the owners, this car is a local legend in the area and its parked in the same place the son left it, its located in Elizabethtown, NC which is about 30 minutes from Wilmington.

68 RS Z28 white, deluxe interior, minus engine...all else seems to be there, but needs resto.
68 RS SS 396 4 speed, blue, deluxe interior with power windows(x-race car complete driveline gone, and body not too far behind) http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Same owner...willing to sell

And the lose of my life...@ 9 years ago 67 427 roadster, nasau blue, white top, interior, headrest buckets, knock-offs, sidepipes, 30k miles, needing resto for $10K,
it had been at a shop, out of owners possesion for years...he got it home and had a change of heart...wanted $12K, I said OK...he backed out again...and a few months later sold it to someone else http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

'70 LS6 El Camino, M-22 4sp, blue on black, no vinyl top, no cowl induction, sitting in a garage unmoved since the '80's, engine possibly seized from lack of use. I'm trying to come up with an angle, as I don't think money is a motivator. The toughest scenario: I'm told he's a tough guy to get a read on, and he "probably still has the first penny he made" even though he has had a good job for many years. The morel to this story is don't take anything for granted. I and the group of guys I run with here in south Texas are always actively looking for undiscovered muscle cars. About a month ago an older lady here in Katy called a friend of mine and told him she had a 68 Corvette that had been setting, un touched in her garage since her husband died 9 years early. She said she wanted it out of her garage wouldn't consider anything less than 20,000.00. He told her he was not that interested but would try to come by and take a look at it. He had just opened a new body shop so that never happened. Two weeks later she called back and ask him if he was going to come by. He told her he was sorry and would try to get by there the next day. That didn't happen ether. Two weeks later she called back and said if he didn't want to look at the car could he give her the name of someone that would come out and look at it. He told her he would come by around lunch that day. Well, when he got there she opened the garage and there sat a 53,000 original mile, totally numbers matching, totally original right down to the plug wires, blue on blue, original paint ,1967 427 Tri-power Corvette Coup with side pipes . She was the original owner, had the original keys and every piece of documentation there was to have for the car. He told her the car was worth more than 20,000.00. Her response was she wanted 20,000.00 and it out of here garage ASAP. If he didn't want to buy to please give her the name of someone that would. Needless to say the Corvette has a new owner. Stories like this make me keep looking.

I think it was 1983 had a weird lead about a old Vette and a Elcamino...sitting in a backyard in Renton...was told the guy was a old recluse that was a gold miner or something like that and was never around...house sat in a weird spot where you could not see the yard or anything..well after driving around all day and pulling into peoples driveways then pulling out...we hit the mother load!!! there was this black Vette and right next to it a black Elcamino...both were very nice and were outside but didnt look like they had been there forever as our weather would have really put the hurt on them...anyway I go straight to the Vette the thing is perfect just dirty..I opened the door and it smelled brand new and was perfectly stock inside only thing it had 3' wide red aftermarket belts..at least I think they were not stock..I hit the hood release and opened it up and about crapped my pants it was a fuelie and you could eat off the motor...word was he wanted 2G cash for some digging equipment....well here I am 20 something about 50 bucks to my name and a '67 Camaro as my only car...what do you do???? sleep on the porch until the crazy guy comes home...call in sick everyday and not get paid...go sell the Camaro....my intial thought was to chain myself to the Vette and sleep next to it..I was going to fight for it!! well I stayed there as much as I could everyday and night after work for a week trying to catch the guy home and try to figure out what he needed to swing a deal... one night I pulled in and the big patch of yellow grass showing brought a tear to my eye....to this day I still think about that car... about another week and the Elcamino was gone...there have been a few other wild deals but thats the cherry that got away.... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I am not even going to get into discussing the car or cars I just went to jail over recently attempting to get legally titled in the wrong way because I have no desire to catch the flack it will cause. The ones that have not been giving me hell will be those that will a chance to buy. I will just wait until I manage to get it done the right way. I will mention the Elephant Dart (Hemi)that has had the same owner since he worked for Hurst/Demming building the things. Can be seen at Milan every summer racing unless it is torn down for rebuild. The owner is so shy he barely ever speaks, but put him in the staging lanes in that car and it is like Clark Kent jumping into a phone booth. If you have never heard this, while putting the Hemi in those Darts they were made to fit with a sledge hammer on the inner fenders. One of Detroits finest hours at enginneering. For the Ford guys a Barn not to far from Stanton Dragway holds a 63 1/2 Galaxie 427 side oiler lightweight, and a 64-66? Comet Caliente factory lightweight with the 427 also. Twin to the car Dyno Don raced. Both were just inherited by an 18 year old kid with nose rings and purple hair, can be bought, I am just waiting to win the lotto.

That NASCAR 'Bird is one of two left. The other belongs to King RIchard and is in his museum. This one still has the crossram max wedge in it and runs HARD! Was raced originally by Ramo Stott of Burlington Iowa. Now owned by a gentleman in Ohio who brings it out every once in a while. Not exactly a "lost" car I guess.....but most don't know it still exists or will see it. The wing was cropped out....did you notice the other "birds and Daytonas in the background? There were about 10 of them in Burlington that day. Kim----does this event look familiar to you?

Cars in my neighborhood in the mid 70's:

1969 Z/28 Camaro, Cortez Silver - mine!
1968 SS Camaro, big block, aluminum heads - next door neighbor
1969 SS Camaro, 396 Gold automatic - buddy's
1969 SS Camaro, 396, light blue, orange hockey stick
1966 GTO - neighbor's cousin's
1969 Camaro 427 - probably was a COPO - belonged to the guy who owned the pool hall
1969 Camaro ragtop, ralley green, small block automatic
1969 Chevelle SS 454, black on black - buddy's
1969 Roadrunner, blue on black - buddy's
1968 Chevelle SS, 396, blue on black - buddy's
1970 Cuda, 340, 4 speed, black on black - buddy's
1970 Duster, 340 4 speed, blue on black - buddy's
1970 Boss 302 Mustang - Orange, 4 speed - friend of my father's
1964 Galaxie XL 500 ragtop - father's

196? Mustang fastback - white w/blue stripes like a Shelby. Rick Kopeck's brother was my basketball coach at the time and it was the car he drove (not sure if he owned it) - probably was a real Shelby.

Many, many, more.

My point is that although these were only considered to be "used cars" at the time there were tons of them out there. I don't belive my neighborhood (in Norwalk, Connecticut) had an unusual amount of muscle cars, there were just lots around. Nobody was really even that into it (i.e. mechanics, racers, etc...), it's just what we drove.

Oh, there was also a Yenko Duece, dark blue (Fathom, Dusk?) that belonged to a friend of a friend running around town. Not sure who it belonged to but I do remember seeing it behind a house, no engine, as late as 1980. I wish I could remember where that house was.

No, this one never sat outside. However, there is a green 1970 SS Chevelle sitting about 50 feet off the road with a tree or two growing in or around it on "Conway-Wallrose Road" in western PA. I first saw it in 1978, and at that time it was NICE . I saw it again last summer...it is not so nice now. And yes, everyone I know that has seen it over the last 27 years has tried to buy it although it may not be worth much now.

I will say that if I remember correctly it looked stock/unmolested the first time I saw it (1978). If I can I will get the VIN.

Our very own MikeA bought the silver one from Neal. I remember when Neal and I picked that car up from Stan's in Linden, NJ! When we were hauling back Rt.22 the right front eyebrow molding blew off of it because there was nothing left to hold it on! With the hood all bent up like that, the rain just blew the fronts of the fenders apart. That is/was the best deuce your Dad bought, all original drivetrain, paperwork, 2 broadcast sheets, 25k miles, and original owner!

I remember the orange car story too, I came home at 3am from painting my deuce and this hoot from Alabama left a message on my machine - the rest is history!

Nah, the yellow deuce has been on EBaY 2-3 times, but the seller thinks it's worth a lot more than the potential buyers. It's still there, on his front lawn, just getting worse.

The L79 Nova is indeed the lemonwood yellow car. Brian Stefina walked by our table that night at the hotel and asked Neal if he was the owner of "the pro-stock, I mean, stock, L79 Nova" http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Of course, we all rolled over laughing! I think the organizers politely asked Neal that if he were to return with the L79 that it be made more 'stock'.

This is going back at least 15 years so I may not have the details right.......

I live in SE PA and would see a Yenko Nova near Maple Grove Raceway sitting in the yard/driveway. When I say near there I mean within 20 mile radius. It was yellow with the black stripes. I knew it was special but did not have any money so I never asked about it or stopped to look at it.

Is anyone familiar with this car?

Ramo's cousin Robert Bennett was married to my mom's sister. So, it is like old home week! There was also a very cool unrestored Ernie Derr Charger at that show as well. Complete with the cracked windshield from the Darlington 500. Pretty cool stuff really!

I could tell you guys plenty of stories. As far as how fast the red car went. At NY international on a cool late aug. evening it ran 13.38 at 108mph. Car was jetted perfect.
108 oct. fuel, the car had been running consistant 13.5's all night. ended up breaking out on that run. dad had a .503 light which wasn't unusual for him. I think i still have the slip somewhere. It might even be in the glove box of the car. not sure. If I remember correctly we went to michigan 2 weeks later and didn't run any faster than a high 13.6 and that was the evening prior to the main event.

Very likely that it is the same car. The one I knew of looked like it needed work. In other words it was not streetable. It always sat outside, 1/2 covered up at times. Faded yellow with what looked like correct style stripes.

If it's not the one you are thinking of, maybe I'll take a ride this weekend.

Local legend has it that there's a '67 HEMI Super Stock Coronet tucked away in a nearby but very secluded and highly guarded garage. One gentleman I've spoken to claims to have actually seen it, and supposedly it's a legit W023 4-speed car complete with S/S hood scoop, trunk mount battery, radio delete, the whole nine. He told me the quarters have been cut for slicks, and a cable drive tach was installed on the dash top, but outside of that the car sits in the plain white wrapper it was painted in back in 1967. I can't imagine there are too many S/S cars left to be discovered, but enough details about this car have been passed around that I fully believe it does or at least did exist. Maybe someday the car will surface and it will be known if the "legend" is true or just an old bar room BS story. I have to agree that the hunt is possibly the best part of the musclecar hobby.

I have been Hunting and Finding great Cars since the mid 70's when I could not afford what I found!! 2 months ago I wnt back to a place I stopped at 26 years ago. Back then ther ewas a 1964 Galaxie with 16,000 original miles. Owner ordered it new. It was Black with Bucket seats and a 4 speed and console. under the Hood was one of the Most fierce looking engines ever produced! a 427 with Dual quads, oval Air Cleaner with the Thunderbird logo and 427 laid across with Checkered Flags! to top it off they even had Cast Iron Headers! Sadly the car was not there, But the Old Guy I spoke to all those years ago still was! That was a treat in and of itself. He told me all anbout buying that car and racing it back in the sixties. then he told me about the guy who came and bought it in 1993 for $1500.00 Dollars! Presently I know of an excellent, totally original COPO Camaro for Sale. a 69 Z-28 for Sale, and I am a Ford Nut and extremely frustrated as I know of 3 Shelby Convertibles that are not for sale! Go Figure!!Willing to trade leads on the Chevies for FORD MUSCLE !!

How about a 69 Yenko Nova that is stored away, supposedly the original 427 Yenko engine sold on ebay and owner did not want it because he is going to put a 454 in it when he restores it. A friend of the owner has had my number for a couple of years now and I'm still waiting a call. Every 6 months or so I call but nothing yet.

Next door neighbor has a 67 Chevelle SS 396 with about 70000 miles on it in his barn. Every couple of years when he cleans out his barn, he'll get it out and let it sit in his drivewway, you can't see it because of the trees and bushes but I stop every once in awhile so I'll see it out. He was thinking about selling and he quoted me a price of $3500. When I went back, he had put it back in the barn and decided not to sell it. He also has a Mach 1 he drives to church during the summer. As well an old Honda. He bought the Chevelle and Honda when he was in high school back in the late 60's. Think he bought the Mach 1 new. He won't sell a thing, tried to buy a mid 60's Chevy van off him and he would not sell it, said he was going to fix it up, think the axle is completely buried now sitting behind the barn along with other treasures.

There is a '67 Hemi GTX or Coronet(can't remember which) in Hopedale Ohio outside of Steubenville. I saw it 9-10 years ago and the guy wanted $30K then-should have bought it but just built a house. Was a race car with mini tubs, maroon in color car, Cragar Super Tricks- was race car beat up but very rust free.
I think the guy may still have it and he knows what he has.

Thanks Mark for starting this thread...I've enjoyed reading all of the stories.

In 1998 a friend that I worked with told me about a guy that ran an auto garage in a little town outside of Auburn, NY. The guy had at least two 69Z's, one orange, one black, two '69 pace cars, one with a 396 and two 65 or 66 Shelby mustangs. The guy had owned the cars for years and most sat outside or in barns. I drove by his service center several times but never got up the nerve to ask about the cars. Fast forward to 2002, my good friend calls to say that George is cleaning house and is selling his cars. I was there the very next day but all were gone....all he had left was a 72 buick skylark.

Interestingly enough, the guy at one time also owned an Orange Yenko Deuce that was sold from Bresee. That car is part of a nice collection in PA. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm still kicking myself in the a$$.

I have come to the realization that these Pack Rats suffer from a strange sense of Delirium! They truly believe that someday they will get it together enough to actually work on the Damned Cars or Their Property or whatever else it is in their life that they clearly cannot tend to. it is a very frustrating process for Car enthusiasts to deal with as we want to Rescue and restore while the truly deranged are content on watching Gold turn to Dust! They just never see the transformation. My tip of the day to all is quite simply this: Continue to Call. Keep "Stopping by". eventually "Somebody" is going to score. It may as well be you! I once scored a 67 SHELBY GT350 the firtst time I knocked on the door! The guy opens the door and asked what I wanted. I told him I wanted the Car. He laughed and said, "100 guys have been to the door over the years and I told every one of them, "No"! Then, just yesterday, a guy stopped by and asked to look the car over. I realized it was time to let it go as I just will never get to it. I gave him a price and he said he would be back. He never showed. I Seized the Moment and asked the price. we went and looked the car over, I had $600 in my Pocket and Came back within 2 hours with a Flatbed and the Balance due. Moral to the story is, Some Clown was a day late and a Dollar Short. Do Not Be The Clown!!

This is'nt really a great find but it pertains to 12bolt's comment. My buddy's father has an old edsel sitting in the weeds in the back yard, and for some reason he feels this car is worth a fortune as it was the car of the day back than. I've tried to convince him that it was a lemon of a car than and it is now. However we may feel about the car, he has let it sit in the garden slowly sinking and rotting away, and is basically worth nothing now, but yet someday.......... There is no talking to him to at least store it properly if he thinks it's worth something. He also has a 79 t-bird he bought brand new with 5000km on it. He bought the most basic model with the intention of storing it as a collector piece as it was the last year of the big birds and theres no telling him anything different.

I also know of a 68 Olds Cutlass which was an original Ram Rod 350 car. It has 6,000 original miles and when I last saw it (probably 15 or 20 years ago) it was in very good original condition. It is not in very good storage conditions, so I have no idea what kind of shape it's in now. Original motor is long gone, as the car was drag raced in the late 60's and early 70's with a BBC. Although several people have tried very hard, the car cannot be bought http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

This is by no means a supercar, but it will get my point across. 10-15 mi. from here there's a '71 malibu sinking into the ground, the kid was killed and his mother wouldn't sell. It is her son's car and that's that. My point is that if her son loved his car like we all seem to, how is letting it rot paying homage to his memory? Love and respect his memory by letting the car he loved make someone else happy and survive.

Some people have a hard time parting with objects whether it's a car or a book. I am part of that group. There have been some recent TV shows on this subject. I'm not as bad as those people profiled on TV but I fit the pattern. I have a lot of junk (http://kookycharacters.com/gpage.html) and eventual plans for it but for now it all sits.

Last summer my wife and I went through our shed, pulled out boxes of toys and clothes that our kids, ages 2 and 5 at the time, outgrew. We sold a lot of these items at a yard sale. It was hard to see the stuff go. We did keep some special items. Seeing strangers walking away with our kids' clothes and toys wasn't easy for us. I could remember certain events just by looking at the items. Birthdays, going to school, seeing the big smiles and hearing the paper tearing off things on Christmas Day, tucking them in at night in these PJs that I just sold for 50 cents........... I could go on.

The point is that we do not know the families that own these cars. We may never know the memories attached to them.

My Chevelle has been in storage for the past seventeen years. Sometimes kept at my parent's house or at my house. Last summer, I took it out of the garage and took this picture of it. It is started once a month. I purchased the car in 1988 from the second owner and he had it in storage since 1981! Through the years, numerous people have knocked on my front door and have offered me money for my car. Last summer. I ran into a childhood friend who I hadn't seen since high school. He began telling me that there was a 1972 Chevelle Super Sport in a garage on a certain block in our neighborhood and that he's going to knock on the door to see if he can buy it. The car that he was speaking about was mine. I never thought that my Chevelle would have been in storage for this long. Having relationships, getting married, kids and overall no time for anything caused this. My three year old son recently discovered what is in the garage, so it is time to finish the car. He loves the Chevelle. I would like to think that it will be his car someday. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

I have a friend (70 yrs old) that has some great cars. They have been sitting(inside)for 20-30 years. He says he's going to get to them one day. The funny thing is that if he didn't work on them when he was 50 or 60 what are the chances that he will work on them at 70?? One day he said to me "I've read stories about old guys that have cars that they will never sell, I guess I'm one of those guys". The bad part is that when he's gone somebody that doesn't care at all about the cars will decide what happens to them.

I am also one of those owners who say they are gonna finish it someday. I have a 1967 Chevelle SS 396, I am the second owner I bought it when I was 16.

In 1980 I took it apart to do a frame off. I moved to CA and the car has been stored at my place in AZ since 1980!

It may be time to find out who owns the property to see how old the owners are. Might be worth waiting for if only for the drivetrain. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Story of a 1969 RS/SS Camaro about 4 miles from my house. This car is somewhat of a local legend in my area. Although we have never seen it on the street it has sat in the same garage forever. The story is that a guy bought new in '69 when he came home from Vietnam. He died about 2 years after he got home and the car has not moved out of his brother's garage since. The best part of this rumor is that people say that the car was originally a convertible, however, after the guy bought the car he wanted a hardtop and converted it!!! I know the car exists, but do not know how true that part of the story is. The car is Cortez Silver w/ black vinyl top w/ black hockey stick stripe.

Yeah, like $35,000 worth of spare dough. Gone are the days when you could have picked up a Day 2 driver '59 Vette like this one for under ten grand--or under five grand.

I don't get the issue with vettes. Is it me or is there a buttload of them out there. It seems that everybody thinks that theirs is VERY RARE and therfore worth so much more. As Brock Yates was saying, "I think theres more out there than there was ever made". Even at BJ auction 1/3 of the cars up for auction were vettes. Any muscle car auction you see is loaded with them. If there everywhere why are they going up into $200k marks??????????

Well I think I told the story of this car once before, but it is worth retelling. One of my friends who I have race with for a long time purchased a 68 camaro a few years back from his engine builder. The car sat in this engine builder's shop for over 20 years after it was abandoned in there in 1972,and the shop owner had the car on a trailer under a canopy behind his shop. The only paperwork on the car were dealer papers from a dealership in what he said was New York, but later was repored to be in PA.{Maybe York PA?}.it is a 1968 camaro SS 327 which I belive was originally a 4 speed car but the shop owner put a glide in it.The car was origianlly white but had been repainted orange and then purple.I was at the body sop when the car was stripped and the owner thought it was a rare car because it was hugger orange, but was bummed when it turned out to be white, but there was race car lettering on the original white paint. It was never titled and had 425 original miles on the clock, but the odometer had ben disconnected for a while. It had a 12 bolt with 5.13 gears and GM bolt in axles, the spring perches were re enforced with plate steel and it had J bolt lakewood bars on it.The car is now legally titled as street car in New York, and had about 700 something miles on it the last time I saw it.The certificate of origin and dealer papers were turned over to the DMV,but looking back on it there is a suspicion of what this car might be.The shop owner claimed it had a bad purple paint job on it and cragar rims when it was left at his shop by a few street racers that were looking to have an engine built. The current owner refuses to allow anyone to take interest in what history the car might have since there is also history that the car changed hands back in the early 70's under illegal circumstances, and might have been stolen back then. The current owner has a clean title and doesnt want to get involved with anybody who might want to give him a hard time. There are however reports in the New Jersey Area that this car might have been Grumpy's 68 camaro.

Another one which I have been working on for some time is a car that has been sitting on a local car dealer's storage lot for almost 15 years now.It is a 1975 camaro that the last time I looked at had all the makings of a Motion conversion bigblock car.It was purchased at a police auction on Long Island back around 1989 along with the flat trailer it was loaded on and some crazy jacked up 4x4 that was towing it.It was confiscated in a drug raid and sold without a title at a police auction. The truck was retitled with a state issue VIN,and sold, but the Camaro was in a partial state of assembley so the state wont issue a title for it,and they also had probelms with the numberless engine that was in it.The state issues a different VIN so that the last owner cant attempt to reclaim the car with the cold title. This may be a good thing though, since the state left the original VIN on this car.The car has a CE code iron head 427 in it along with a dual plane intake and 3 barrel carb. One head and the intake/carb are in the trunk, and only damage looks like a bad head gasket and a lot of rust in the engine. The body is mint with heavily oxidized orange paint and a Motion glass L88 hood.Only over the last 2 years have some round surface rust spots popped up on the car.The windows are never fogged which makes me think the inside is tight and the floors are good.It has a 10 bolt with a gold cover and traction bars that dont totally go up to the spring eye,and it has 3 keystone mags on it.I would love to look into this car further but the current owner seems to not want to do anything with it.I have contacted him a few times over the years and back in the early 90's he said he would sell it for 10 grand, but I didnt think it was worth it,now he wont sell it at all because he doesnt want to get involved with selling a car with no paperwork.I havent been in the yard to get a closer look since about 1992,but I drive by it every day about 5 times a day during my travels in work, and have stopped to peek at it through the fence 3 times in this year alone.I dont know if it is the real deal, and I know that it isnt a Baldwin car anyway, and big bumper camaros arent hot now anyway, but it is the solidest 2nd gen I have seen, and I know that I could puff that 427 up and have it on the street and cruising with 1 good winter's worth of work.I will try and get some pics of it to post tommorrow.

Small town Oklahoma. Guy has about fifteen 69 Camaros parked in a 40 by 40 (or so) garage in his back yard. Poured the slab himself and he and a buddy put up a steel prefab building.

All cars are rough and partially disassembled. Has an Orange COPO 427 with the original motor. His father bought it new and raced it a few years. Also has a 10 10 Z/28. Has a boat load of parts, muscle car holleys, distributors, blocks, heads, cranks, manifolds, etc. but won't sell anything.

I am starting to feel like I already posted this, so if I did, I am soorry. That's what happens when you get old.

it's kinda hard to see what it is,but Motion car or not, this is a very solid big bumper camaro with a 427 in it and some vintage speed parts{it is hard to see the vintage chrome hood tach in the picture. It is wasting away to nothing because the owner can be bothered to get the paperwork in order, and is to busy selling all the cop cars he buys from police auctions to be bothered getting this car into the hands of somebody who would do something with it.I am going to try attaching a pic.

Went and looked at a 69 Charger RT today, white with black vinyl top and all black interior with buckets, real 440 car with auto trans, factory air, condenser is in the trunk but everything else is intact, and all it needs is a fuel pump and is pretty clean except for a couple spots of rust that can be repaired pretty easy.Going back tomorrow with the owner to crank it up and haul it home if we can agree on a reasonable price.Never owned a charger but they are pretty cool looking cars.Got all the numbers to check and make sure everything is as it is supposed to be,Engine is matching #s but trans was replaced.Even still has the factory magnum wheels on it,and all original paint and interior. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I grew up in Chicago...Morton grove to be exact. In the 80's I used to go by a small Construction Co. and when the owners kid had the garage door open at night, I remember seeing as many as 12 Shelbys in there...I even remember the 67 red convert GT 500 prototype that was at the Volo a while back. In 1976 I saw that car late at night and I remember the guy telling me he could probably get $12k for it...I thought he was nuts!

Oh well!

another 80's story. My buddy worked at a machine shop in Evanston, Il back in the 80's...he always used to tell me the story of a guy coming in once a month with really rare Ford stuff for sale.

The story goes that this young guy had a couple of semi's loaded with Ford racing stuff...everything ranging from a couple of complete Shelbys...to all sorts of wild induction stuff, steering wheels etc., etc.

I wonder if anyone got to clean up all of the left overs after this guy thought he creamed all of the good stuff out?

There is a legit. 1968 ram air gto in Harrison, NY. It is at this guys house sitting outside rotting. It has been there for a long time. I know it is legit because my dad sold it to the guy back in the 80's. Too bad because there are very few legit 68' ram air gto's out there.

Here are a few my Grandpa has been telling me about for quite awhile. I finally made it up to look at them the other day. One, of course is a 57. It is in fantastic shape as far as the body goes with no cancer. The other is a 63 coupe. It is also extremely solid. I tracked down the owner only to here. "They are on Ebay." As I got ready to go to the computer, he continued; "there are plenty like them on EBay. Those are mine and I'll never sell them." At least they are in a dry area and won't rust away in his lifetime. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Here's a "garage find" I picked up "with a little help from my friends". 1962 Vette convert that's been sitting in a garage since 1975. 350 in it now but the gentleman I purchased it from said it was an old fuelie. Not big deal to me but it does have 6000 plus redline tach and some other details that indicate he may be correct.

Having fun,

Hi Kim,

Actually have this running and driving now. I tried to post pic but it's a digital and over the byte? limit to upload. The previous pics were off an instamatic that I scanned in and apparently have a lower byte?rate.

This currently is my summer "coffee" car. I always go get the 25 cent coffee(Ft. Dodge special), at the local Conoco and have to give the locals something to talk about.

Talk to yah later,Alex

Thought I'd post two more undiscovered/discovered cars. I just scanned this first one today so first time anyone has seen this for a long time.

Picture is Dick Landy's 65 Factory AFX car being pulled from a garage in Dayton,OHIO area in 1974. It then resided here in Ft. Dodge until 1989 when an Indiana collector purchased it from my father. I know it's not a Chebbie but I'd thought someone would get a kick out of it(at least Kim). http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

The second car is the Vitar car which had been sitting since 1993 in PA. I'll put it in the photo album section since it's one of those with too many bytes(ouch). Photo is when it was being loaded into the trailer. I ran this car briefly before I went to my vette(better aero,wt etc).

Regards,
Alex

65 numbers matching Black/Black Impala SS with 396. Thant's about all I know. I talked to the owner, who will not talk any more about it, and WILL NOT sell it. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif That's a real shame because he keeps it under a cover in his driveway. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

superstock427...that is quite a story and find...a few years ago i was looking for altered wheelbase cars...a fellow in Carry Illinois gave me a call and said he was selling a 65 Dodge Dart Altered wheel base....dummy me never went up to look at it..however i do own a 63 SuperStock Max Wedge Dodge that raced under the name "TAMELESS Too"... and our Duster Drag car is disguised in grey paint..was red with white candy cane stripes across the roof or better known as "MAX WEDGE Duster"..I know these aren't chevy's but still they were lost treasures...
