Jeff, MUCH THANKS for posting the article on "MY ZL-1" http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I bought the car from Rusty about 5 yrs. ago. I heard someone talking about it being for sell at the 2nd. Reunion. It's hard to believe that the car was restored 21 years ago. I bet it might have even been one of the first ZL-1's to be restored. I didn't even have it out at all last year. With having the other cars I guess I kinda forgot about it. Jeff what magazine is the article in?? I brought the ZL-1 to the 3rd & 4th Reunion's.

I believe I saw this car as well as the twin to John Platania's white Douglass Yenko at the Car Review Cypress Gardens Car Show in Florida 1985?

Mark do you know?

Darren, It probably was my car. Rusty took it all over in the 80'S. I'am sure it got alot attention back then because there just were not any ZL-1's being shown. When I bought the car I met Rusty at 2 in the morning at his warehouse. He asked me if I wanted it.I didn't ask him anything about the car I just handed him the check.I couldn't believe I was getting a ZL-1.

I first remember seeing this car at Indy Super Chevy in the '80's. It was probably it's first time out and people were all over it. You had to stand in line to look at it. I remember the heater delete being the coolest thing I had ever seen on a Camaro and how it fit the car's image well. Rusty, Jay Nixon, and some others were the pioneers in COPO restoration. Another guy I remember was Mike Arnold who restored these cars early. I never thought Mike got the credit he deserved. I've always wondered what happened to Jay and Mike and their cars. I know Rusty is involved with the '62, '63 hipo big Chevys.

--------------Jay Nixon sold his Copo awhile back--Real nice fella--Ordered paints and some hard to find pieces from him several years ago when he had his mail order business--Details'-- in Florida--He might be still down there----

I'll second the motion that Rusty doesn't get the credit he deserves. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif In 1983 Rusty appeared at the national convention for the Late Great Chevy Association in St. Charles, Ill. with the world's first restored '63 Z-11 Impala, and just to have a nice pair, next to it was a '62 Belair Sport Coupe with aluminum front end and add-on Z-11 top end. That was when I first met him. I was visiting his "warehouse" once and saw the ZL-1. I remember him saying he was probably going to sell it. He had the Chevelle there then too. I think that was my first visit to his place. He was still finishing the aluminum nose '62 race car. Trust me, regardless of his variety of accomplishments, his heart is in '62 409s. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif
