Let's see Belair...the last time I owned a '70 Chevelle was in 1978, so I'd say it's been a while since I paid enough attention to Chevelle parts to notice one http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Don't know yet Rick, he's getting me pics tomorrow.

Thanks Supercarkid http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

NOS is getting harder and harder to find...these clowns on E Bay are calling the GM restoration parts NOS now...it's tough to wade thru the crap stuff from real NOS....if you found one snap it up...Joe, 200 bucks was cheap for a true NOS grille IMO.

OK, Mark, I helped find your seat material at SMS, and now your grille. You're gonna owe me big time before your done http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Check gmpartsdirect.com. They're showing the 70 Chevelle grille, part #3956117, still available. Price is $135.56 plus S/H.

Thanks again for the SMS lead Rainer...I do appreciate it http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I'll check out the GM resto grille vs the one I've found and see what the difference is. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Mark:
I have to agree. $200 for a true NOS would be a buy. I don't have any experience with the repro GM piece, but buy the NOS if it is anything close to reasonable - there won't be any more!

Soap box: There are some repro parts that are very, very good. The problem is, they are few and far between and it is hard to know if it correct until you receive it. Most parts are fine for the common cars and drivers, but for a COPO, LS6, Z16, etc., I have to have the right parts! I used almost all NOS or restored the originals on my 18k mile LS6.

Want to link sites, Mark?

Just to clarify - gmpartsdirect.com has the ORIGINAL GM grille, not a GM resto piece. This will be in a GM box, with GM part/casting numbers on it. They are a GM dealer. The grille has not been discontinued by GM at this point.

New GM as opposed to NOS is fine, but has anyone else noticed that many of the genuine GM new parts are poor quality? Specifically window cranks, Camaro header script and more that escape me at the moment. I'll take a quality repro any day on some of these.

Thanks, Belair for noticing the new site name. I got the .net, too. Now if I can just figure out how to upload my web pages....

Thanks Rainer! I'll check that out. I think the grille the guy has is probably the same one as he told me today that he bought it in 1997.

Cool site name Dave! Sure, let's link sites. After all of the BS I went through last week over "flipping" my '67 Z, I am going to change my approach to my site a little anyway. It should be done in a week or two and I'll make sure to add you to my "Links" page. Any updates on your '67 Z that I can add to my site?

C'mon Belair...Keep up will ya http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif A guy called me a few weeks ago and offered me a '67 Z body for a really good price. It had been hit at some point and needed to be racked to bring the body mount into place. I decided that I didn't want to go through that hassle at the same time as I was doing the Chevelle, so I put it on ebay and sold it. Ironically, I offered it first to a guy that I know that wanted one and he passed...only to end up buying it from me on ebay http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

This grille is readily available through Chevrolet Parts, but you can get it through some none chevy dealers for near $100.00.
Always could,as they really never stopped producing it.
There is a variation of this grille, but only the early design reflects original foot print.
Early meaning mfd. in the 1970's-early 80's.
Around the late 80's,when reproduction parts began to see a demand,GM outsourced this part overseas,& although it shared the same part #,it is not EXACTLY as the Factory intended.
Look on the original box first to see what it's time period is,for one.
I real Assembly line NOS grille, brought near $800.00 last time I checked.

No Disrespect intended, but are you building a 1970 SS Chevelle from Scratch?
How Bad is this DY LS6?
You are looking for a lot of parts,on a Few websites I see.. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks Mr70. Yes, I am building a '70 Chevelle, however I am starting out with a '74 Vega, so I need a lot of parts http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Actually doing a frame off on the DY LS6 and am replacing what needs to be replaced to bring it to #1 status. Some of the stuff I listed earlier is not needed as there was a little misinformation given to me that has been corrected now. I'm sure you'll see more wanted ads after the car is torn down in the next week or two.

Sorry, missed the part about "how bad is the DY LS6". Actually, the car is super solid and mostly complete. It does have 111,000 miles on it, so it is a tired ol' gal. The usual stuff has been changed underhood like the starter, alt, distributor, water pump etc., but all the critical drivetrain components are there. The right front fender has a tear in it that I don't want to patch (don't want any chance of bubbles or cracking in the future), so I bought an NOS fender. I originally thought the quarters needed replaced because of "cut wheel lips", but they were actually rolled up and will easily roll back down again - so quarters aren't needed. Not a spec of rust under the car or on the chassis. It's really just a matter of restoring and replacing parts to bring it back to "as new" condition.
