that car's incredible ---- same seller as that 69 Garnet Red (original Lemans blue) Yenko Camaro. Anyone know how that seller is making these contacts ??? Appears to be a husband wife team http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif with some good networking connections.

The SYC Camaro the seller has sure is...something. To do all of that restoration work and then paint it in a color that no Yenko ever was with an interior no Yenko ever had seems awfully...dumb. Garnet Red with DLX interior sure is pretty, but guarantees you a never ending stream of conversations all ending with "No its not a clone its a REAL Yenko, just look at the VIN and this list of real Yenko VINs I've printed off of the internet....." Blah.
That Vette is stone cold awesome, however.

Think of it as an entry level Yenko I guess...doubt anyone would leave it like that. This is definitely one of THE Corvettes to own...but man it's gonna be expensive.

But this one is a nice one.

Just looking at the pictures of the suspension and engine details gives me chills thinking that it is so original.
Car was owned by local Austin, TX collector Bruce Knierim in the mid 80's. I saw it a number of times locally. It brought nearly $40,000 when he sold it about 20 years ago.
It was a special car then, that was top dollar.

the openings in the rear are for rear exiting exhaust i wonder if there are clips along the body next to the frame rails and if this car had rear exit exhaust at one time it be nice to take a peak.

I don't see any openings in the rear for rear exhaust. What are you looking at ?
This is a true sidepipe car with supporting paperwork.

Sweet car. At the 03 Bloomington Gold auction there was an L88 car with 11 original miles http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif That was a very sweet car too. I believe bidding went up to $750,000

Toyvet,
------TimG's 67 400/427 green roadster has a few more miles but is a better car in my opinion and I know both these cars pretty well. Please dont get me wrong, as its only by a point or two at most. Pauls car is a piece of artwork. Up at this level I think its more about how the car was treated very early in its life that makes the difference, and Tims car was absolutely pampered from the day it was delivered. Many years ago (circa 1980/2) a friend of mine in Chicago called me about this car possibly being for sale. Upon arriving at the original owners house we spent about 20 minutes unwrapping the car before we could see it. It was a dry winter day and he wouldnt roll the car out of the garage for us to look at it because he said it was cold. The owner then decided he just couldnt sell it and we went home very disappointed!
------It was many years later before he did sell the car and after a few careful owners in the middle Tim is now the caretaker. You guys should see it (spectacular)!!!!.........Bill S
------P.S. Im sure Roger Judski (owner of the L88) is real happy with the present values of 67 Vettes in general. Wonder what the 12 mile car is worth today?

Those are part of the frame right behind the trans and all the Vettes have them even if they have side exhaust.
Bill, thanks for the very kind words about my car. I think that the green car was the best one that Chris owned, still not sure why he sold it to me. I enjoy hearing stories about how John Palm had it stored and pampered. I'm not real familiar with the blue car anymore, I was wondering how it compared to my car. Thanks for the update.

The 12 mile car had the bottom of it painted white or something didn't it? I have a Corvette Fever magazine from the late 80's or Early 90's that had a whole article about the car being bought to go drag racing they brought it home painted the bottom of the car white and then parked it in a warehouse in (Chicago)? I think. Didn't have the money to race it or something like that.
Chris sent me pictures of the blue/blue L88 roadster, it's heading off to Nabers for restoration. Probably will be seen at 2006 Bloomington. It's a pretty neet car.
The 12 mile car has original paint and interior, the engine is a replacement and the chassis has been worked on, still an amazing car.

There are two consecutive serial number 427/435 red Vettes in Grand Rapids, one coupe and one convertible. They were deliverd with no fluids, including battery, and are still owned by the original owner and have never been driven. To my knowledge, they have only been shown to the public one time. I have seen them. Still have never had any fluids in them. What would they be worth?

Truly a once in a lifetime. I love to share information, see others like minded collectors cars, and such but I could see how the owner of that pair only showed it to the public once. How does he sleep nights !!!!!!!!!!

I think they are a small item in his life at this point. Several years ago he somehow slipped at home and is now a quadrapalegic. The cars are a time capsule. Look just like they did when delivered. When I saw them I couldn't stop staring. I must have went back and looked at them a half dozen times. Would be interesting to see them go thru BJ.

Vern B

My guess is after setting for 38 years, everything would be seized up. I don't think I'd want to put any fluids in it until I went thru powertrain and mechanicals.

Firstgenaddict,
-------You are correct in some degree, as the chassis was painted white. But the 12 mile car was originally delivered in the northwest and trailered to the young (then) owners home and taken apart, ostensibly to dragrace. There is a guy on the NCRS website on a daily basis (Duke) that lived across the alley from him and he can fill in that part of the story much better than I.
-------However, later on one of the great classic car dealers of all time, and a great guy, "Friendly Bob Adams" out of southern Wisconsin ended up with it and then a good friend and customer of mine from Janesville Wi. purchased it from Bob. I stayed with Bobs son (another great guy) Bob junior in Scottsdale this year while giving my Chevelle away.
-------Eventually Dave Burroughs and one of my old bosses, Jim K bought it and thats when the car was put back in original condition. The engine actually came from the illustrious Pro-Team. It was a complete NOS correctly dated over the counter 351 cast L88. When my friend in Janesville got the car it was missing a large number of original items that had been replaced with over-the-counter, substandard GM stuff. There were several inbetween brokers involved back then and I dont think anyone knows to this day where all the stuff went. Back at this time there were very few reproduction pieces that were done correctly. The name of the game for those with a distinct lack of scruples was to take the mint pieces for thier own. Even stuff like the original gas pedal were gone. Luckily along with all the misfortune many pieces of great importance were left such as almost all the interior. I dont think there is a reproduction piece on the car now as Dave B is detail oriented to the 'nth degree. He wouldnt have allowed anything on the car that wasnt perfect for it, and he did all the resto on the car that was necessary. It all seems confusing but I hope this helps. Im sure a whole lot of cars went thru just as many twists and turns while getting "whole" again!!!!!.........Bill S

Vern B, Where did you see these no mile 1967 Vettes at. I'd love to learn more about them. Also if anyone could tell me which Corvette Fever magazine from the late 80s or early 90s has an article on the 12 mile '67 L88 as mentioned by firstgenaddict on the previous page, I would greatly appreciate this info. Best Regards, Tim E. Penton, Jr.

Sounds unusual to me also. It's the only time I ever heard of it. The cars are consecutive VIN #'s, so obviously they were special ordered.

Tim that 12 mile Vette was also in Vette Vues Magazine in like 1975-76. I think that is where those photos that are shown were from.
It's also featured in 1972 issue of Corvette News magazine. It being lifted by a forklift to show the bottom of the car. I have a July 1982 Hemmings add with this car for sale at $100,000. It is an amazing add with lots of cars, the full page add was placed by the Janesville, WI owner of the car.

As far as I know, standard procedure at the end of the production line is fluids, start-up and run-in on rollers before they drive off. I can't imagine "no fluids" unless this gentleman had enough special pull to have the cars pushed off the line to a special transport. Even the common transport trucks of the time drove the cars on and off the ramps.
Not to mention, Tonawanda test ran every engine (with fluid to check for leaks). Imagine what that remaining dampness in the blocks has done by now..... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I agree, as you point out the engines were run several times through the assembly process and loading and unloading. Not a big point, but still valid.
I remember when this "ENTOMBED" (http://www.proteamcorvettes.com/entombed.html) Corvette story came out about 8 years ago.

It's been 5-6 years since I saw the cars and don't remember all the details, but do remember the part about no fluids, as I had never heard of such a thing either. Whether they were in the car and drained, or somehow he ordered them without, I don't remember the details. The battery was delivered dry also. Given they are consecutive VIN #s, they would have had to have been special ordered. I remember them being referred to as, his and hers, as one is a coupe and the other a convertible. If they were Berger cars, who knows what could, or couldn't have gotten ordered. Maybe they went the COPO route!! I checked today and he is in Arizona for the winter. Won't be back til spring. Don't know the gentleman personally, but got info today thru a friend of a friend. He told me he also purchased a stepside Chevy pickup with a 454 and 0 miles in the recent past.

I don't know but it seems to me of all the odd things you could do to a car to make it a collectable having never had fluids in it would not be at the top of my list. That can't be good for the car, if anything i would think it would make it less collectable, or an engine that has never been started would scare me off. What good is having an original engine when it dosent run.

I find it rather hard to believe that the car would have been delivered w/o fluids. From a legal point of view there is no way GM would have sold the cars w/o things like...brake fluid, rear diff oil, trans oil, engine oil: anything that could have led to this car rolling off the delivery truck and not stopping until it crashed into a bus full of nuns, orphans and lawyers. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Unless they sold it "as is" with no MSO/title and only a bill of sale. Even back in the 60's there were still lawyers out there lurking in the darkness http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

If I'm not mistaken, they drove the cars on & off the delivery trucks, so they HAD to have fluids in 'em...and the engine, tranny, & rear internals are gonna be JUNK without fluids if they sit for very long, unless it was opened up and coated with a grease or protectant of some kind...
Pantera, that was the same car. Bruce Knierim bought it out of Oklahoma shortly after that and held onto it until the early 80's. I believe that it has sold, auction ended early.
Bruce and I had lunch today and discussed the car, he said it was very nice with a poor replacement carpet at that time and some slight yellowing of the interior. The person he sold it to would have done everything it needed correctly. Paint and chassis was very nice, this was a car that needed no massaging at all. I don't know if it has received a Benchmark or Bow Tie award, it was in the Special Collection in 1985.
