What plant is your car from?
I've seen a few Van Nuys & Arlington built with natural finish, but the natural finish could've been due to Heat/Moisture peeling the black coat. They weren't very decisive examples at the time.
Atl.-Balt.-Flint-Kan.& Oshawa plants seem to favor the Black.
I have a Leeds factory photo engine shot showing both components in Black.
Krylon #1613 looks good w/a light satin top coat afterwards.
Tape off the Rubber boot, interior spring, and exterior clip on the Coupler.
