Nice oddball combo...I love it! Is it possible that *any* engine combo be had this way?

A guy at my work has a '70 Malibu 400, big block, not small block with the 400 emblems on the front fender. It is gold if I remember correctly and appeared to be all original. I haven't seen him drive it in for 2-3 years now. How rare is the big block in a non-SS that year?

*8368 Auto Trans.
*Add 305 extra service engines.

Dan Carr at Team Chevelle has taken the actual figures posted by Rick and estimated the breakdown into Chevelle models. The vast majority of the LS3 engines (7456) found their way into Monte Carlos in 70. Estimates are that another 1237 were installed in 2-door Malibus (810 autos, 427 manuals). For 2-door standard Chevelles (13437 series), estimates are 47 (31 auto, 16 manual), and for ragtops, 28 are estimated to have been built.

Rob - With the exception of the special paint, this car was ordered with options readily available on any Chevelle. The Chevrolet zone memo from Oct '69 announcing the LS6 and the cancellation of the L78 makes mention of the LS3 availability in any Chevelle. Its highly unlikely that other combos (e.g., L78, LS5, LS6) would have ever been installed in a non-SS Chevelle.
