Wow. I had a fast as hell 85 Honda SI civic back a few years ago. I had more fun beating some v8 Chev stuff. They never knew what they were up against. Light and fast for what it was. I will never forget the 4 teenagers in a Late model Z-28 ragtop that laughed at my loud muffler at a stoplight one time. When the light changed, I put a half a car length on them and then missed 2nd and still beat them by 3 car lengths.
Today I was reminded of that litte shoebox car when I was watching the Chicago auto show on TV and Honda had a concept 2006 Civic SI on the show. Man, I could lust for that one. 200 hp? If it is as much fun as the one that I had years ago I just may have to sign up for one. The say it just might show up as a 2006 regulal production car. I hope so.
I hate to see it, but if the american car makers don't get on the stick they are going to be owned by someone from some other country.
Did anyone see the new Dodge Diesel 4 door truck? It has reclining seats in the back!. Mopar has their act together. What is Chev's problem?

Pantera,
Stashed in the corner of the garage I have A Honda with a B series VTEC with a Jackson Racing Supercharger installed.
Lots of fun with that car for sure. They really rev up.
There was previous discussion here last year on this topic. Check it out:

I LOVE my '04 Subaru WRX STi. (So do the local police.) Nothing can touch it in the stoplight races, especially in the rain. Too bad the limiter stops it at 140.

Ok well it is fast for a 4 banger.... and it gets 37 MPG if I stay outta the supercharger. I never try the American Iron out of respect. Except for the time that me and a turbo Civic were going at it, and a 94 Mustang GT decided to try us both. I ended up getting both of them.
Car could be put into the 12's with a little tweaking- remember- it is only a 1.6 liter. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif

That was my econo car back when I bought the big house. Had to sell a few of my playthings (Street Vettes)to afford it. I picked it up just to use as a cheap used car to drive for a while because the house payments were huge for the first two years. ($2,300) I didn't have any idea it was so fast till I drove it. Man it was a fun little car.

Outside (http://www.hassettroofing.com/markjr/Movies/Cars/BlueCar_vs_Chev.wmv)
Inside (http://www.hassettroofing.com/markjr/Movies/Cars/BlueCar12_7.wmv)- Its just a board with a cam and gauges we throw in the pass seat (fuel gauge is boost)
Thats an older movie from when the block was stock, I remember we were in the staging lanes together and talked. I was very respectfull as I checked out his car and complimented it. He was very talkative, but afterwards I saw him at the food stand - he really didnt say much.
fwiw, I still want something American besides my truck - lots of nice C5's going cheap...

hey I love my Amercian muscle but I have been to the other side and played with VW's...they can be made to run very hard on not much money...be it air cooled or water pumpers.
so dont count out all the ricers you may pull up next to..more of them are figuring out how to tune them properly past bolt ones.
btw..12sechonda..nice pass.. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif That's incredible! Very cool. Better to hold your thoughts and let your car do the talking, right? The Chevelle is the sentimental favorite but even the old king can't win forever.

Rick,
I used to feel the same way. I said Bull$hi.t No way, they cannot be that fast... Then I took a ride in a single cam VTEC back in 99 and felt the same power rush at 4 grand that I recalled as a kid in my Z-28.
So now I have them both. My Chevys and the Honda when I want to hammer something - and rev it to 8000.
Good Run Mark. I feel bad for the guy with the Chevelle. I like the 454 cars.

Power to weight ratio.
Traction.
Yeah, some of those little cars can move on down the road (and track).
Not sure why so many traditional hot rodders are so resentful of these cars. Although not my cup of tea, they are the essence of hot rodding. I am sure a lot of the old farts driving the big fast cars of the day were resentful of the guys hopping up fenderless Ford flatheads, but that is where it all started. Probably thought it was sacrilege (or sacrilage).
I like the muscle cars, but I like all the high performance machines.

I had an 04 Civic SI hatch, great little car,but that 2.0 VTEC is a rubberband, like every other Honda.I thought about putting a hair dryer on it,but at my age I prefer a warranty. My new driver is an 05 Mitsu Evo8 RS lightweight(track model) This little nondescript maids car(per the girlfreind)with a flash and exhaust runs high 12's and will wax everthing except a Z06 in the canyons-in the wet can't touch it- http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif
