Bought in 2000 as a small project. Never owned a camaro before. Car came with original trans, rear and a 1970 LT1 motor in it. I located a November of 1968 block for it and began to build a real 302. Body and paint was done by a real good friend and long time drag racer and body man, Court Nelson. Motor and trans work was performed by Pete Suriano from Petes Automotive in Pottstown. While not a frame off there is extensive time and effort on many little things that I picked up from this site and read in Jerry MacNeishs book. Bob Harris and Craig at Camaro Specialities in Buffalo helped the project also. We as a family enjoy this car and usually make most of the local car shows. I prefer day-2 trim because that is how we always had our cars in the old days. I have all the correct componets to put this car in stock trim if desired. Have to also thank Don White for helping me achieve the Day-2 look with vintage NOS tires and wheel combinations, along with some good ideas. Everybody here has contributed to my cause. Car is fathom green with a dark green interior. Interior is all original except carpets and dash pad. 7000 rpm tach with a short spoiler. (No X codes). It is an 11D of 1968 car. Flat original hood.
Thanks!

775 B.F. Goodrich on the front (Coker Repops) L60/15 bias on the back. (original) I now have a set of L60/15 RWL Goodyears on the back. (NOS) Awsome tires I got from GTO DON. Thanks! Sam

Mounted on the outside! Look great! I will send someone some pictures. Thanks, Sam

I checked Coker's site and saw that they offer that 775 tire in a 3/8 redline (see picture). Redlines might be better on a pre-69 car since white letters were replacing redlines as the performance-look tire. (Blackwalls are always 'correct' in this case.) Hmmm, 15x4 Cragars with 775 redlines up front and 15x7 Cragars with a G70 redline in back. Might look good on, say, a '67 RS/SS 396...?

I was thinking that Bruce/Xplantdad might need a Day 2 set of wheels and tires for his new '66 SS 396 Chevelle. You listening Bruce???

http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Yeah, I just might have to do the skinny Cragars/redlines thing with my car. I love that look. Sam, your Z probably still turns corners decently since it's a small-block. I wonder how sluggish those 775's would be with an iron 396 pushing down on them? Probably howl like a sick hound dog. But skinny fronts is about going straight, isn't it!

http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

Salvatore
04-17-2005, 12:39 AM
The 775's are 27.40" tall. They do rub on the bottom back bolt that attaches the wheel well moldings. The offset on the rims is not enough. I suggest you try 640/15's either Firestones or Goodrich from Coker. They are a little shorter. L/60's you may need a 1/2" spacer with 7" rims, unless deep dish are used. But it IS about going straight! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

427TJ
04-17-2005, 01:11 AM
Thanks Sam, I was wondering about the backspacing on the 7-inch Cragars. I don't like it when they stick out too far in back. I have a pair of brand-new 15x6 S/S wheels that I bought from Summit a few years ago and they have a 3 3/8" backspace. The 7s come in a 4 1/8 or 2 1/4 backspace and I'd think the 4 1/8 would look better and not stick out but they'd probably rub the inner fender well, even with a G70. I've also thought about running 6-inch wheels all around (a-la Day 2 in 1967) with bigger tires in back--like G70s in back, E70s (or smaller) up front. I wish I had a buddy who owned a tire store so I could mix/match before spending any cash! (Don't we all?)

All in good time Bill! I gotta get the 3:73 posi installed first!

This Chevelle handles really well with the redlines...I'll have to attribute it to the front and rear swaybars, I guess....The handling really surprised me!

I've already got about 30 "really nice car" from people pulling up next to me...in just a day and a half!
