"GUIDEX" Who are they?? This is the Name in Cursive writing molded into the center of MY Controversial RED "Non RS" Tail Light Lenses. everybody agrees ( I am not convinced yet) they do not belong. But they cannot explain who made them or why they are there in the first place!! along the Bottom of the lens it reads " GUIDE 12 SAE STD BH 69" I am unsure of the BH as I am looking at the picture. I will send the pictures to a Volunteer who can resize them and Post. School is now in session and I got My Pencil Sharpened. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif Learn Me something Here.

OK, lets see if i can explain this in a manner easy to understand. Guidex was the original manufacturer of the lenses, and your lenses ARE original pieces, but that red "bumpy" rectangle within the center portion with the "Guidex" logo at the bottom has been added into the light... just as the clear backup light was originally added into this rectangular hole in every other standard 69 taillight in the world. What someone likely did was take a piece of the outer portion of a standard light (*compare the texture of your "backup light delete" panels to the texture of the outer 2 sections of taillight... i bet its identical.) You will also note that this "bumpy" part has no part numbers or Guidex lettering, only the smooth surrounding portion that is still a part of the original light, prior to the removal of the clear backup light section. Someone did a nice job of the install, but i guarantee they never built any 69 Camaros from the factory (COPO or otherwise) with "backup light delete" taillights. If your shifter ball is missing the "R" and there are only 2 rods on the bottom your shifter, with no gears inside for reverse, I MIGHT believe the taillights are original. Make sense?

This weekend, The Best friend of the Original Owner(He was there at time of purchase even!) and the Second owner is coming to Town from Florida. I will discuss this matter for if anyone would know, it would be this guy. he knows everything else about the Car, and if there was an "Allnighter" that resulted in these lenses being Created, He will know! There are so many other things one would do to a Car, why just that?? By the way, The Ball is missing the "R" as well as the other 4 gears!! Thanks for your optimistic Review Joe!

how about checking out Pete's car as well..didnt you claim his are the same???? I have to agree with Joe on this one..no way that car left the assembly line with no backup lights in 1969..even back then the liability was a concern.

Maybe, just maybe.........
What if these lenses were some design studio pieces that walked away as "lunch box" treasures, or something that was glommed from the Guide plant.
In the early 60's I worked for a guy whose brother in law worked in GM's design department. He would come to visit in some oddball car he had bought that had different trim or paint or interiors than the assembly line stuff. His story was that the department staff could buy these cars but they couldn't resell them for at least 6 months.
I have also seen and owned a few 0- pieces and some Holley carbs for combinations that never made it to production.
Maybe, just maybe, these lenses are something that just never made it to production. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
Maybe an early Rally Sport optioned prototype lens that was never supposed to find it's way on a car,but did?
