The POP is from a one owner '67 GTO convertible. The cowl tag (see below) and PHS indicate that the car was built in the 2nd week of June. The VIN on POP and car match as well as the engine production # and engine code on the POP and block. But, the "P"
code for the tranny on the POP indicates the "H" month of '67 as the assembly date of the tranny. Actual code on tranny reads "P7D21" which would be appropriate for a car built in June http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif I can not see the partial VIN on the tranny case. It may be on top.

I wld also like to know wrt to the POP:

1. what the "FO" is before the tranny code?
2. what does the "223 LL" mean? (trim code+body color+??)
3. what does the "1H" and "T" on the same line mean?

Thanks for yr help.

Jeff,

Thanks for reversing the picture. The link to Mattinglys site is good for VIN and Cowl Tag, but no info on POP that I could see.

FO is for the wide ratio M-20.
LL is the paint code

Thanks firstgenaddict. I guess the "FO" wld be found on the Build sheet if I had one. The first L reflects the marina turq. color. Does the 2nd L mean the same?

Thanks,
Sam

Depending on what color Convt Top it should be coded different than a "L"

Per the Cowl tag ("L2") and the actual car it is a black top car.

Is the POP coded wrong then since it shows LL and should be L2. LL would mean upper and lower paint colors were Mariner Turquoise thus a Hardtop?

Dag nabbit! I guess I need to brush up on my Muncie-speak. Forgot that June is "H" in Muncie. So intuititive - don't now how I forgot. I foolishly thot 'H" was August! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Now that is just-in-time supply system (tranny assembled 7 June - car assembly started the very next week!) Thanks GTO DON!

I now have confirmed that although I have a date code correct Muncie, it is not original to this car. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Nonetheless, I could not resist her and had to bring her home today...

Rick,

Thanks. I was looking for a project. Will drive it for a while, then I will do a frame off restoration to bring her back to her former glory. Took my wife for a ride last evening and she turned to me and said she had never had a ride in a convertible before! I guess I got to let her out more. Original owners are right here in town to fill in the car's history.
