Muncie Transmission

Hey Guys does anyone have any information on this Muncie transmission? These are the numbers that are stamped and cast on the unit that I have in my inventory. Housing casting 3885010, tailstock casting GM 3846429, and shift cover plate casting 3884685. The stamped numbers are P7E29 and 7R29599. If someone can help me identify this tranny with more specs I would greatly appreciate the help.

P7E29:
*P=Muncie
*7=Year,1967
*E=Month,May
*29=Day

7R29599:
*7=year,1967
*R=Arlington Tx. is Vehicles Ass. Plant.-They only built BIG Cars.-This is from a Passenger car,Impala,Caprice,etc.
*29599=Unit VIN #,are you sure there isn't a digit missing here? It should have 6 digits.
(I think only the M20 Muncie was possible for the 1967 BIG passenger cars,so this is an M20 Muncie originally.)

*Maincase #3885010 used on ALL Muncie M20-M21-M22 1966-67 Cars.
*Side cover #3884685 used on Same.
*Ext. Housing #3846429 used on ALL Muncie cars until 2/65 I thought.Does it look authentic to this particular Trans.?

I think there shld be another number in front of the "7R29599" to designate the division of GM, i.e. 1 is Chevrolet.

Yep..That's true Sam.
Arlington built Chevrolet(1)-Pontiac(2)-Olds(3)
And they all had 6 last digits in their VIN#.Arlington didn't start numbering with the 200001 series until after Jan.1970.

Alan can you see anything in front of the 7 & after the R?

Guys,
I did some cleaning in this stamped area because it is a little scruffy and it looks like the letter after the 7 is a letter F. Does that make sense? There doesn't appear to be any other stamping before the 7 or after the F, other than the numbers shown in my first posting. What do

Plant designation didn't start until the 1968 model year, and the 429 tail housing was used thru the 1970 model year in Pontiac A-body's...Hope this helps...Crash

Found this in the site below for what it is worth:

"Beginning in 1968, the car's last eight numbers of the VIN were stamped on the transmission. As with all car productions there are exceptions to the rule. One good source has a late model 1967 GTO with the VIN stamped on it. "

If it's an "F",and not an "R",that would stand for FLINT Michigan Assembly plant.In 1967-68-69,they were only manufacturing the Larger GM "B" body:
Chevy Impala-Biscayne-Bel Air-Caprice.
Pontiac Catalina-Excutive-Bonneville.
Oldsmobile Delta 88.

Since it is a Muncie M-20 could it be for a GTO because I wouldn't imagine a full size family type car having a 4 on the floor. I quite sure that it is a letter F.

I'm not up on the Indians much,but I don't think the Flint plant produced the GTO during the date of your transmission.

1967-68 GTO VIN Plant Codes
B=Baltimore,MD
G=Framingham,MA
K=Kansas City,MO
P=Pontiac,MI
Z=Fremont,CA

Family size GM cars could &amp; did receive the Muncie 4SPD back then.
For Chevrolet "B" Body:
*In 1967, 14,600 got the M-20.
*In 1968, 6,596 got the M-20,&amp; 1,052 got the M-21,&amp; Only 124 got the M-22.

I guess that pretty much identifies this thing then. It must have come from a 1967 Impala or such.
