Caution! Latest Scam... You receive an email on an item you bid on but did not win. The seller offers you the "second chance offer" at the price you bid to. It is a fake email with all of the pertinent information taken from the real auction. The fake seller will ask for payment in a non conventional way. He will say " I am out of town and need the money sent to me thru money transfer".
A friend of mine, a first time Ebay buyer, just sent $4,000 for a motorcycle offered to him thru a second chance offer. It was a fake e-mail. He is now out $4,000 http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Please be careful.. contact the seller listed on the original auction.

When I listed my L-89 Convertible all the buzz on the forum was that because I had a Private Auction was to play with the bids on my car!!!!
Now you know why I do Private Auctions. It protects MY bidders from scams. I had someone try that with a BMW I was selling and almost got away with $29,000!!!! And who do you think the person who got ripped off would have pursued????
You can buy and sell safely on eBay if you use caution and your head.

I agree. Ebay can be used safely. Definitely contact the seller, look at the feedback, was the feedback for sales or purchases and use an escrow account for large purchases.
The unique thing about this scam is it all occurs off of Ebay. The scammer only used the information from the auction and sent it to the bidders that were listed in the auction.

To be afraid of eBay is like a caveman who was afraid of fire. Ebay is a fabulous resource to both buy and sell. Once you have learned the ropes AND use common sense, you will be fine. I've been on both sides of hundreds of transactions and have never really gotten hurt. I've been screwed over MUCH worse at swap meets [yep those headers fit a Chevelle] or even by aquaintences. The biggest caviat is on cars themselves mostly because the sellers are so freaking STUPID. They actually THINK it's; [pick one] original, numbers matching,a Muncie,a survivor, original paint, just needs a tune-up, no bondo in the quarters.....
