He says 370hp, not LT1. Tht may be the hp of the engine in it now.

Has he emailed you pics of the engine pad? I am not a Corvette specialist, but remember these cars having a data plate on the console that gave c.i.d. hp and compression ratio. Does this car have that? While not conclusive, it would sure be nice.

70 LT1 is an awesome engine. Just ask the guys with the Yenko Dueces.

The ad says "Numbers Matching" so that would mean LT-1, a couple other interesting tid bits, metal fan shroud, aluminum radiator, after market stereo system speakers, 2nd owner, need to get the tank dropped in hopes of a tank sticker...may be something special here or could be a dud, we shall find out..time to play detective.

I just now noticed the auction is over. You bought that bad boy pretty cheap, especially if it is a numbers matching LT-1. Even though I have a 69 Z/28, I am still amazed that a 69 Z brings so much more than a comparable Corvette.

Hope it works out well for you. BTW, I can't see squat on the tach. What redline should it have?

They said the plate say 350 370hp...we need the engine codes of ctk, ctr, ctu, or ctv..and M-22 for the tranny..

That would be an M21 tranny. Don't put too much faith in the console plate - they are repoped and glue in place. Tough to say what it is from the pics. Wrong valve covers, no smog system, etc. $14K for a real '70 LT-1 is a steal unless it has birdcage or frame rot...it's tough to believe that it squeaked by the experts at that price if it is real. Good luck...

She said the car is in pretty nice shape but we shall see, said engine numbers are 70s401651 vo11ctu, said the U might be a V or a D...the D would be 300hp and wrong motor, she is also missing a number, she is rechecking in the daylight...

CTV would be right. CTU is a 75 LT4, no good.

Exhaust maifolds don't look right for LT-1.if the vette used the same as the 70 Z/28 did.

You sure about that?? I'm not Corvette expert, but I don't think they used the same manifolds as the Camaro.

Your right Joe... Corvettes were given less restrictive manifolds than the Camaro... which explains the 10 HP difference in the models.

Correct. The Corvettes got the "ram's horn" manifolds vs. the "log style" for the Camaro.

This looks more and more like a great buy.

With some help from my buddy Drew Papsun the Vette expert from Long Island, NY, I bombarded the the nice elderly lady with alot of questions and all of a sudden her memory snapped into place and she admitted that her mechanic said it was a 350-300hp base car with the hood and console plates being switched before she got it 7 years ago...at first she said the engine id was CTU but then it slowly turned into CTD with the top of the D not as legeble...anyway Thanks for all the help eveyrone http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif and back to my search for a 68 SS camaro 4 speed ragtop and 1970 LT-1 vette...

Close, but no cigar.
