In my ongoing quest to resolve the SHORT shaft problem with my 69 Camaro.....I am now seeking a 49.50" long (factory 4spd) driveshaft....measured center u-joint /center u-joint.
I will then install Turbo 400 slip joint and 1310 series ujoint onto this 49.5 shaft
NEED clean shaft and price quote soon........and would you ship FedEx to Illinois.......

Thanks, Chuck Sharin

Chuck..by the time you pay for the shaft and pay for quick shipping to Ill you can probably just have a new one made in Ill.

Lillards right. I installed a 8.5 rearend in one of my 69 Camaros and the 49.5 driveshaft was suddenly about 1.5 inch's to long. I messed around trying to find the right size shaft on ebay and junkyards when I finally called a local driveline co. and they made one up with the right yoke and new rear u-joint for about 150.00. Plus it's balanced and not rusty crusty.

Charley and everyone, I really do appreciate you all at least taking the time to respond. I bought a 69 Camaro that was running and driving. After changing out the unknown origin 10 Bolt, we installed a 69 Camaro 12 Bolt and reused the driveshaft that came with car/10 bolt.
Recently while having a Turbo 400 problem diagnosed(bad vacumn modulator) a trans shop pointed out slip joint was not in deep enough.
ALL the sources I have talked to or read, say that T-400 shafts are 48 1/2" center/center which mine is......however it is 1" short at the slip joint area. I've also learned there were different slip joints made for misc applications.....but mine seems to be the "normal" 5 1/4 center of joint to end variety......
One man wrote me with this.....................
"Based on the diameter and 1-3/4" gap, it sounds like you have a driveshaft out of a 70 or 71 Nova that had a 400T and a 8.5 10-bolt rear. The 8.5 10-bolt rears use a 1" shorter driveshaft than the 8.2 10-bolt or 12-bolt rears. They had longer pinion flange yokes, than the 8.2 10-bolt or 12-bolt...................
So maybe my discarded 10 Bolt had a longer pinion yoke making up the 1" shortage I now have.
I was merely thinking that Most 67-69 Camaro 4spds and T-350's had the 49 1/2" shaft, and surely there must be plenty of these GOOD unbent shafts around, for a reasonable price.......apparently I am so WRONG....
Driveshaft shops in Seattle want a minimum of $220 to build ne a new shaft...and I could maybe take with me on airplane to Illinois. We have no driveline shop contacts in central Illinois to build one.
In doing a search on EBAY, I see where Ft Wayne, Indiana has a shop that builds shafts for a fair price....
I'm already WAY upside down on this car($$) and was merely trying to come up with a simple factory part fix for a factory built car........and hesitant to just throw money at the problem, because NOBODY can diagnose the problem...
I will call Ft Wayne shop on Tuesday and see about building new shaft

Best regards to all of you...........

I have one I bought off ebay. 49 9/16" long u-joint center to center. U-joints are in line with each other. It has a T-400? yoke on it. The guy told me it was 50.5" which is what I need for my 68 BB/4-speed. If you're interested send me a PM.

Crash, I got frustrated trying to figure out a solution for my problem that was cost effective. I ran across an EBAY ad for a company called Ft Wayne(Indiana)Clutch. I called them up and in a couple of hours they built me a new shaft, complete with U-joints and slip joint.......and shipped it same day which was Tuesday....As of this writing I havent heard from Dennis T in Springfield,IL so dont know the outcome.....If somebody coming from Crash's direction to Springfield Power Tour stop, I wouldnt mind checking out his as a back-up....
Anyway THANKS to all who wrote and offered well meant advice.....hopefully my car will be OK on the Power Tour down to Nashville and back to Springfield......

Hooked up with Chuck yesterday. He had a shaft made but they made it too long. He used the longer yoke off it on his old shaft and is rolling along...
