I found out something that I have suspected for a long time, that my car was an M40 before it became an M21. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Had to have the linkage replaced today, after 10 years of aggravation with never having it shift quite right. Turns out that the shifter plate was for a 3 speed trans. Now the shifter sits about an inch or so further back, so no more knuckle mashing shifting into 3rd. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif However, I was informed that there are 2 weld nuts at the top of the trans tunnel, and the opening for the speedo cable has always been for an auto.
Big Question: How many Berger cars were sold with the M40?
Copo.com does not list any.
Any Help? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Thanks, Andy

The weld nuts are for a console but both auto and stick used consoles. Are you saying the speedo cable does not cross the firewall and go down the pass side of the tunnel ?

What does the shifter hole look like?

The shifter hole is larger than a non console car. This is why there was room to move the shifter back.
Since my wife copped a plea to involuntary manslaughter, I won't have my new camera til next week. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif I will try to get a better pic of the fire wall.
Back to the big question: Any Berger cars with an automatic? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Pretty sure the shifter hole is the same for all four speed cars, console notwithstanding. What I was asking about is how the shifter hole was cut. The four speed holes were actually cut with a torch at the factory, so you can check to see if there are any remnants of that original hole. Many, like mine ended up getting cut much bigger by owners to accomodate a "super shifter".

your trans tunnel should have a hole in front of the shifter for the auto cable to run through if it is an auto, also it will have plugs that are threaded for a auto shifter to mount to.
