I am going to look at a 67 Chevelle SS ,it is suppose to be a original 375 HP /396 car but also has factory A/C. Could you get a 375 HP with A/C!What would I especially look for to see if it is a real 375 HP Car.Guy said he does have some papers with the car but not sure what all he has.He was pretty vague, said he had not looked at them in a long time and just does not remember what all is there.Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

No a/c...and it seems like Colvin's book says there were NO '67 L78 Chevelles, but like 10-12 engines built? Some of you earlier a-body guys help me out here...

There were some but very few and far between> NO A/C is correct

Thanks Guys,When I raise the hood and see the A/C I will know immediately it is not the 375 HP version.Maybe the guy just made an honest mistake in his description.Car is suppose to have very little rust! But I have been surprised before! I went and looked at a 69 Roadrunner and in the guys description it had no THROUGH RUST! As I went to raise the hood it honestly crumbled in my hand, the drivers fender had a hole in the top you could drop a gallon paint bucket through, floorboards were rotted completely through as was the trunk and rear window was absolutely falling out of the car from all the rust around it.Car had been siting outside for 24 years! In the elements! It was one of the worst automobiles I had ever seen! Thanks for the help

Bobby,

You said it has factory A/C...maybe the person added it after the fact...like "Vintage Air"??

According to Team Chevelle a 1967 396-375 engine would have an EX code stamp...1966 396/375 engines have EG...

Also, see this post on Team Chevelle 1967 L78 production discussion. (http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=90377&highlight=1967+L78)

Maybe Mike (Mystery Chevelle) will chime in on this post.... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

Good luck looking at the car... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Does the seller mean A.I.R. (Air Injection Reactor) or Air Conditioning?

Bobby, There were 612 1967 L78 Chevelles made. None came with A/C from the factory but do not write this car off with out further inspection. I have seen dealerships install air on just about any configuration of engine combo. Good luck with this car! Best Regards, Tim E. Close Bruce... and as said.. 612 L-78 67 SS Chevelles sold. None with Factory Air conditioning. That goes for any 66 SS L-78 also ( 3099 sold ). The Code on the Block Deck will be EG for a 66 or 67 SS L-78 but EX was the code for a 67 SS L-78 with "AIR" as in Smog Equipped, as in a California Built 67 SS L-78. 34 L-78's with Smog in 1967....Also, there were not any 66 or 67 L-78's made with automatic trans.

Good luck... needle in haystacks these days...

Well went to see the car, drove 300 miles for a big disappointment! It was a real SS but not 396/375.It was a 325 HP but must have had 375 RUST HOLES!It was absolutely horrible! No title!looked like a family of hobos lived inside(no offense to anyone that may have been a hobo,or have a relative that is or was a hobo,or even knew a hobo),would not even make a decent parts car! Enjoyed the drive going and took a different route home for a change of scenery.Just hated wasting all the GASOLINE,but I did stop and buy me an old barber chair.Been wanting one for a long time and found a good deal so all was not wasted. Now I got to repaint it and put it in the gameroom so when I have too many beers I can just recline it back and sleep it off in comfort!LOL Sure do thank all of you for the input on what to look for, wish it had been the real thing so I could share my find with all you good folks, but you never know till you go look!Sure enough if you don't look you will miss out on something really good,at least that is usually my luck! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Belaire you are correct! And they are also very heavy.I am just glad I did not have to pay by the pound! This one is all there and all hydraulics work perfect.Just needs some repainting.I almost stole this one! The guy just wanted to get rid of it.He probably thinks he found a sucker but I was smiling all the way home!LOl

What make/date on the chair. I got one rusting away out back that someday Ill have to get to. My late father in law was a barber and before my brother in law passed away he wanted to throw it out. Thats when I stepped in and claimed it. I think the date on it is something like 1895 or something like that.

Jeff those ornate chrome ones are the coolest from early 1900's

I am not sur of the date but it is an Emil Padair chair from Chicago. It has been recovered in leather and looks really nice except for the paint.I am thinking of taking it apart and have it plated instead of the painting.I don't even know where to look for a date on it.All the porcelain is white and in good shape with no chipping!A few stained areas but that is just showing the age.I gave the guy $450.00 for it which is really cheap for the shape it is in.
Will look really neat once finished up.I am thinking of Nickel and gold plating because that is the paint scheme.I am going to do a little research on them to see what it is exactluy suppose to be.I am going to make me an old barber shop area in the game room, with all the old clippers, aftershaves, old sanitizer etc. maybe a old shoe shine stand too. That way when people come over I can shine there shoes and make a dollar or two to buy me some more car parts!LOL http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
