Alabama Yenko??

I want to tell you guys a story about a car my uncle had in the early 70's. The story really makes me sick but It's a good story.
He had a Yellow with white decals,69 Yenko Camaro, purchased for $1200 I think he said in about '72 or '73. He blew the 427 racing and traded the car to his friend for a 360 Yamaha dirt bike. His friend took the seats out and put them in an old boat!! Yeah, a boat!! Eventually someone stopped and bought the car from his friend and nobody knows where it went from there. If any of you guys know the history of your car; maybe you know if your yellow Yenko came from North Alabama around the Morgan City area in the early to mid 70's. If so please post back with any information. I just think it would be neat to be able to locate the car now. If it is your car, now you know what happened to the seats. If he had only known what he had back then. Makes me sick .....

A 360 Yamaha, hum.. I had an early '70ish 360 MX Yamaha race bike, grey in color, a killer bike. Lots of compression, which made it a bitch to start, and because it was a 2 stroke with a very small flywheel, on occasion would fire and be running backwords. Did not take me long to figure out, that when it comes to race bikes, bigger is not always better. Traded it for a 125 MX, yellow w/black stripes, my all time favorite.

Boy I remember those days. My Maco 400 would kick back and almost break your leg! That bike seemed to almost have no limit to top end. But, my Husky 250 was just as bad and much easier to handle. Does anyone remember these oldies but goodies? You sure could tell me from everyone else in the pit. Those bikes would ROAR insteed of buzz (like my old CR 125).

Raced in the mid 70's motocross big time about put Dad in the poor house, I will lay one on ya I bet you never road a "Montesa"..wanna talk about a bike that pulled forever, fricken animal!!!

how about some of the kit Turbo street bikes that were the rage about then...we also built some really hot RD-400's I would call DG and order everything they had and we would max overbore it right out of the box and hang some big Makunis on her....talk about a handfull...man life was grand 15yrs old and could ride anything I wanted at the shop and had the keys to shop van drove all over the place without a lic. totally forgot about that...guess we built some Superbikes of the time, as fast as we finished a bike we only got to demo it for a day or so and some turkey would buy it.

The Bultaco's were a good running bike as well as the Husky's and Montesa's. I still like the Kaw 2 stroke triples esp the 500. Then I made the mistake of selling that and bought a 78 KZ1000 Z1R turbo. Man that was a fun street bike

As a 11 year old in 72 I wanted nothing more then a Hodaka Super Rat, which I got! With it's chrome steel tank and all. Those where the days when Roger Decoster was unbeatable. A few years later I was able to get a bike that started the a change in motocross bike, a Honda Elsinore. Bike technoligy moved FATS in the 70s. the difference between a early 70s bike and early 80s bike seemed like 100 years evolution, not 10 years.

Thanks for the little remonder to the good ole days. My hand is hurting today, I can't help but wonder if it is because I smashed into that tree when I was 16?

Frank those Hodakas are cool, my uncle had a thing for them and had many, funny I found one recently with like 600 miles on it,not for sale he said, you recall the Road Toads??

About 4 years ago (feb march of 2001)there was a Yellow COPO could have been a Yenko in an Alabama auto trader, somewhere near Birmingham price $10,000 advertised as 25k original miles 2 owner car with 427 4spd. From the B&W picture it looked to have the original small letter goodyear tires, Ralleys (would make it a 9537 car as well), cowl hood with 427 emblems , I called about the car...husband was out of town, told the wife I would come and camp out and wait for him, she said that I was the first caller and that she would tell him to call me first.
Long story short, he never called and I called over and over when I finally got in touch with him he had sold the car to the first person who looked at it. I posted the story in the fall of 2001 and someone had spotted the car at a drag strip in Alabama during the summer of 2001.

I heard about the yellow *Yenko* running at some dragstrips in Alabama several years ago, and it intrigued me...but after asking several folks down that way it was determined the car was a clone.
