I was wondering with the growth and popularity of EBAY and online purchases in general.....has anyone ever bought and paid for something and never received it? I am curious to hear what others have gone through so please do tell.

I peruse Ebay at least once a day. My activity has not been extensive at this point. I have bought about nine items, the most expensive was about $200, never had a problem with receiving the stuff or condition as advertised. I think I have only sold two items, a 69 RS/SS Camaro in 2000 and a 69 Blue Dot Stereo in 2003, sale prices were $24,000 and $300 respectively, purchasers were more than happy.

My experiences thus far have obviously been good. My only gripe with Ebay is all the Repo parts being listed which can be bought from a catalog. When I surf Ebay it is quality used parts I'm looking for, but they seem to be the minority these days.

I've never had problems with UPS or Fedex delivered items, but I've had issues with 4 USPS delivered items in the last three months. So far the sellers have made good on the purchases and refunded me all or part of the money. Use something with a tracking number and insurance is my advice...

I have bought and sold hundreds of items on Ebay. I have only had a couple bad transactions and only one time that I didn't get the item I paid for. Always check the seller's feedback before bidding. Ask questions about the items and if the seller doesn't respond or is vague with the answers, don't bid. Always insure high dollar items. When I sell anything for over $50, I require the buyer to pay for insurance. It protects both of us.

I think I rebutted this a year or 2 ago here on sYc, and I think Camaros dot net is attempting something along the lines away from this . We all need a break from eBay at some pointe.... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I have bought everything from vintage cars ads, tachs, and magazines, car parts (cheap and expensive). I had a big time issue with a Motion Performance Catalog that never showed... 2 months later it comes and now I have a pair of $5 door lock knobs that have just past 1 month with no sign.

I bid on a couple cars, never bought one. Tried to sell the Camaro and Corvette on e-bay with no luck. I have a buddy who bought a 2001 Porsche Carerra Convertible on ebay. He saved about $8,000 compared to the local dealer's price for the similar car. He is VERY happy with the car.

I used to do a lot of transactions on e-bay but I have stopped buying high ticket items that are to far away to drive and pick up. A couple of years ago I paid $100.00 for a radio delete plate out of Canada that I never recived. This last November I lost $1400.00 to a guy named Chris from a company named [email protected], phone number 972-814-7685 out of either the Lubbock or the Dallas area of Texas. This guy had over 60 positive hits so I thought it would be a sure thing. After I sent him a personnel check for the aluminum heads I started seeing bad comments coming through and then he was pulled from e-bay and stopped selling on e-bay. I only heard from him a couple of times after that and he has disappeared now. His story was that his vendor took off with mine and a whole bunch of other peoples money and he is just the middle man. The worst part is that I only saved about $300.00 from buying the heads from my local dealer. The local police do not seem very interested in helping me with this issue and say its a civil issue and that I will have to go to civil court. I paid the guy with a personnel check and e-bay was no help because I reported the problem after their notification period and he no longer sells on e-bay.

I would like to ask if you wrote a letter to the district attorny of that county? If not then write one to him detailing the problem and ask that he take action. If you have gotten litte out of them from previous letter, then CC the second letter to the state officals that are over his office. They have a responsibility to protect the public. Hold their feet to the fire and above all do it in writing.

When you write a letter they have to take some kind of action where they can slough off a phone request and not follow through. Persistence pays off. Don't be afraid to be a pain in the ass. This is the advice my attorney always gives me and to date it has sure helped. Now I only have to call him when the letters don't work.

Good luck,

Here's my add to this:
I paid for an Item to a guy in Glendale Arizona with Western Union Money Order.
I never received my items and thus filed complaints with eBay, Phoenix PD(because he used a MB Etc mailing address), after many weeks of complaining to everyone, Western Union replied to tracking of deposit of my M.O., and wouldn't you know it: It was electronically re-printed, cashed in a different city next to Phoenix at a Wells Fargo Bank with all of info paid to, items #'s, and my signatured all changed!
The Phoenix P.D. stated to me that because it was online, across state lines, that the FBI was the US gov't department to file this complaint with. It falls under a category I believe they stated as Document Fraud Investigations.
In the end, Western Union sent to me all copies of the cancelled M.O., then next sent to me an affadavit to sign & Notarize, and I guess I am suppose to be re-imbursed for all my troubles with that M.O.
This remains to be seen, but I am sure that W.U. notifies the FBI of such issues, and with that affadavit , W.U. can prosecute the individuals once I receive re-imbursement of funds!
I personally spoke to my 'B of A' branch Manager about their processes in relations to my issue pertaining to Bank Cashier's Checks. That manager stated to me that Bank Cashier's Checks hold more difficult processes to forge, but personally I feel anyone with bad intentions could make anything they want. Anywyas, he did state that the FDIC insured institutions hold greater power than Money Order folks regarding tracing, forgery, and prosecution to these matters.
I will use Cashier's Checks from my Bank until one is forged and then see what occurs! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

I would recomend that you keep writing letters. they have a habit of becoming effective. I have had great success with them. Just this week I was able to resolve a verbal dispute with a out of town customer simply by expaining my side of it and letting them understand where they stand and what I will do if they work with me. so much easier than having to hire a attorney and waiting for months to have it be resolved.

Don't give up on getting your money back. Find out if they are still in business and show up on their doorstep on a saturday raiseing hell and talking about how they screwed you.

Fraud is fraud and the authorities should be notified and keep on their ass and make them take action. if you have to take it to a federal level then do so. fraud across state lines is still a crime. The squeekey wheel will get the grease.

Hi Lester how are ya doing? Yes this is a great site. I really enjoy a lot the things that are discussed here. I'll post some pics of the cars in the next couple of weeks.

To the rest of the readers, Lester and I have never met but we came across each other 4 years ago or so while a friend of mine and I were researching 68 L34's. Lester has one sweet ride. We have stayed in touch over time and when I first joined this site he was one of the first people I recognized. Tends to be a smalll world at times.

Lester, I'll be heading out to Carlisle this weekend for the Camaro Nationals, you got it make it one of these years!

bought and sold many items on ebay. had many parts left over from parting out cars and was pleasently surprised what some of the stuff brought. only one complaint about item not being in pristine condition when defects were described and photos showed damage. i sent some other small trim items he was interested in with his next order. never been burned. bought and sold an 11 sec 70 camaro on ebay.

I've purchased several small items(car tim parts mostly for my 69 Z-28. However, I only dealt with established dealers with good feedback. Tried to sell same Z on EBAY with no luck. Ended up selling it locally for more moola.
