Does anyone know what factory rear axle ratio came as standard equipment in a 69 Nova SS L78/THM400 ?
I know 4 speed cars came standard with a 3:55 and from what I gather the automatics came standard with a 3:08. Is this correct ?
Thanks
Nick

Nope, there were several options available..... 3.08, 3.31, 3.55....
This isn't a definate rule, but the trends that I've seen are that L78's tended to come stock with a 3.55 unless something else was specified. L34's generally had a 3.31 unless something else was specified.

Allen,
I was pretty sure that a 1969 TH400 on a L78 Nova came STANDARD with a ratio of 3.07 or 3.08 non posi. You could upgrade the axle Ratio for about $2.15 and add Posi for $42.15. 1970 was 3.55 standard.
However, I just checked again and by April 1969's Vehicle Price Schedule it is listed as 3.55 standard. I beleive it was a mid year change, but can not find an earlier Vehicle Price Schedule to prove it one way or the other.
Of course I could be getting old and sometimers is kicking in. The following are all the options for 1969.
L78/TH400 could be 3.55 (standard), 3.31, or 3.07
L34/TH400 could be 3.31 (standard), 3.07, 3.55, or 2.73

PS: I am shopping for a 1969 Vehicle Price Schedule dated other than April 1, 1969.
I may be wrong, but here is what I always thought the early pecking order was when specifying the L-78/TH400 Nova in 1969:
*3:31 Standard
*3:07 Economy
*3:55 Performance
All possible in Positraction @ extra cost.
