# match, rusty project x-33 car (RS)
OK,
Lots of emails and PM's on this car,
Here's the scoop. Everyone is throwing numbers around, I will give the SERIOUS buyers 1 shot at it, otherwise, I might give it 1 shot on ebay, then I will tear it down and restore it myself then sell it. There is a non # match, non RS Z-28 on ebay right now in several pieces, mismatched. Item number: 4560895432
It is at 11,200.00 and still has an hour to go.
We all know what this car will be worth once done, so I would be willing to part with it for $14,500.00. There are several of you throwing around numbers, and frankly I don't remember who was first, and who started low and went up as the other guys did. If you are serious, call me on my cell. First person to CALL ME FIRST , then paypal me a non refundable 1,000.00 deposit on the 14,500.00 purchase price buys themselves this very original but RUSTY Z-28 RS.

[/ QUOTE ]It says at the top of the pics "THIS IS THE MOST COMPLETE UNMOLESTED PROJECT Z28 THAT YOU COULD EVER DREAM OF" Im not trying to be mean or start anything, but can you use the words UNMOLESTED AND PROJECT in the same sentence? I allways thought that unmolested [btw,i hate that word] means untouched or survivor. That car has survived nothing! I think its been severly mistreated to say the least. I never dream about restoring cars that rough!! Im sorry if I offended anyone but lets call a spade a spade! JMHO. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gifDREAMS SHOULD BE FOR PLEASENT THOUGHTS. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gifLike going to the club and meeting a beautiful 25 yr old blonde who likes you and takes you home to her dads house only to find that same car MINT CONDITION with original paint and tires in the garage with 37000 miles on it and a 1975 inspection sticker and plate on it and the old man asks if you would like to buy it from him for 14,500. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif THATS A DREAM!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif

Yes, the car is sold. Deposit, I am waiting for the title to clear in my name to send to the new owner. Link was broken, so I gave the correct one. The way things are going you guys would be accusing me of hiding something!
Now for the other stuff:
Steve, Don:
First off, The car has it's original 37k mile drivetrain. How many trailer queens are there out there that have replacement engines? Trannys? Heck, many of them are pieced from several cars by parts bought on ebay. You can always replace a quarter (or two, and a floor in this case), but a replacement engine will always be suspect! How many fake Z's are out there? You KNOW this is a real one. And an RS to boot. And Yellow (not my fav, but popular none the less)
Secondly, by unmolested, I mean that the engine was not taken apart and hot rodded, and all of the parts that were on the car when it came off the showroom floor are still on the car (minus the exh manifolds, rallys and air cleaner top). All of the date codes match up, even the water pump and the alternator. Every "Z" you see has the cowl hood. How many were produced that way do you think?
All of the RS parts are on the car. Correct and Dated. Of the Z-28's out there, how many have had the RS stuff added?
Again, you KNOW that this car is a real RS Z-28. These are the things that unmolested mean to me and many others. What do you mean by unmolested?
No where did I state that the car was restored, or a SURVIVOR. I simply said that it was and it is unmolested. No "day 2" stuff. No Mr. Gasket vavle covers, no aftermarket anything but headers. Even still has the DZ carb. Again, UNMOLESTED.
I gave MANY hi res pics, and showed all of the trouble spots. More than once I said that it was RUSTY! I even stated that you could put a football through the rust holes in the quarters. Even in the subject it says RUSTY. In what way was that deceitful? You would have to be blind to miss that.
I bought the car to resell, AFTER working on it. Many of you requested a "price" to buy it BEFORE I started on it. I threw out a price and a page with details. Many of you were fighting over it at that price. I am still getting calls even today stating that "if things fall thru........."
Darren, like I replied to you on the other post, If you don't like me or the cars I post, then don't buy any from me. I know you have a beef that I am making a few dollars on this, but so what? Just because I like CoPo's does not mean anyone here is obligated to sell me one less than what the market will bear. That's America. There are several people here that called and offered me lowball prices. I did not get mad at them. Just nicely declined. Almost all stated that the lowball price was not their final price, but their starting price. Again, this is America.
Check out ebay Item number: 4560895432, there's a Z, without matching #'s, non RS, in pieces, bad pics, and some rust. clearly states "Not included: Original pulleys, carburator and alternator". It went for $12,900.00 only 1,600.00 less than my Z went for. How much do you think it will cost to get all of the pieces and parts (if you can even find date correct parts, or repops)? I bet more than 1,600.00. And yes, that car does not need anything near what my car (did) does need in the way of body work. If you can do the work yourself, then it is much more cost effective.
And you guys are wondering why the new owner does not want his name listed here? If I did not know better, I would suspect that some of you are trying to "scare" him. With all of these comments I even offered him an out. He could have changed his mind today with a full refund. No questions asked.
Beat up and going to bed,
Rich

"First person to CALL ME FIRST , then paypal me a non refundable 1,000.00 deposit on the 14,500.00 purchase price buys themselves this very original but RUSTY Z-28 RS ." (Underlines added by me)

This one's a project all right!
It is unusual in that it was rusting from the top down, rather than the other way.
It is awesome to find a 38k mile survivor. It even still has the am radio in it. Interior is all there and in good shape relatively speaking. Floor boards are solid.
[/ QUOTE ]
Your right Rich I am not thrilled with what you did and I have no power or right to stop you. With all the initial interest in this car I would have liked to see it go to someone who wanted it with out paying your markup. Not to say that that person might have turned around and done the same thing. Again, you have every right to do what you did just as I have every right to not like it. The privilege of being an American http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif.I will indeed give you credit for becoming a paying member as I think you have realized this site has helped you a great deal. The site has helped me as well. We have some differences in opinion here but I'm not taking any of this to the grave with me.

I think it was described pretty good in the ad.. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif At least you know what it started life as when you finish the resto...hell all resto's are ambitious anyway. Even if it had decent floors with a few pinholes you would probably replace them...whats the diff if you can see your shoes before you start the resto...same amount of money for the floors...nasty looking now...a gem later...
Hope that is the end of the squabbling. Obviously Rich got a little (just a little Rich, don't be offended) carried away using the term survivor on this one. However, he certainly did not misrepresent the car. I agree that a car, no matter how rusty is "unmolested" if it doesn't have major mods, and so this one would certainly qualify for that. Although, father time sure molested the hell out of the body panels. That S.O.B.
As far as a re-sell, I have never figured out why anyone has a beef with that. Virtually everything you buy is re-sold. Wal-Mart doesn't make anything. Just buy and sell. Whatever the market will bear.
Like I said, hope we are done squabbling. Now, someone post something funny. I haven't had a good belly laugh in days.

Joke's over, now please, bring her back. I keep trying to cook, but every time I throw the water and pasta on the stove it just makes a mess.

I thought the price was fair http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif If I was in the market for a real RS-Z with matching d-train, and wanted a nice father-son project for several years this would be the one!
I agree on the poor use of terms, but overall, it's a good find - put the pics on carsinbarns.com http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I was just wondering what sort of documentation you have that shows that this car has only 37k miles on it? I realize it is already sold but I was curious how that can be documented. I am not being a "donkey" here, I am asking if there is a way to find out short of a dated "logbook" like a aircraft has.

Kind of a dweeb ain't he ? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif
He had a Cobra and GT350 at the Saturday night car show, I asked him how he was going to get both back and he said he'd recruit someone to drive the Cobra to Milwaukee. All I could think of was "how much would my cab ride be 60 miles from Milwaukee to Elkhart Lake".
csx289
07-24-2005, 07:42 AM
Even more funny is that I had to beg to get somebody to drive the Cobra from Milwaukee to the track on Friday! All I could think was that I would have given my left you-know-what for a shot like that when I wasn't lucky enough to own a Cobra. Hell, I might have given the pair for that drive.
Oh well, I eventually got a volunteer and he said he had a blast driving the car. He later took his dad on the ride to Elkhart for the show Saturday night in the car as well. Sometimes the best part of owning a cool car is seeing the reaction of somebody else after you toss them the keys. Priceless, IMHO.
The one positive to crashing your race car is that it frees up a spot in the trailer. Sunday I put the Cobra in the race car spot and drove the GT350 home, my buddy drove the truck and trailer because it has a/c and XM radio. Now there is a guy who doesn't deserve to drive a GT-350! LOL
Tim, it was great to meet you in person. Thanks for hunting me down!

Colin,
Is the race car still at the track? I know the cars were 'impounded' while everything was being sorted out after the wreck but I assume you had the ability to take it home with you. I haven't spoken directly with him but am rather sure Fritz in the #25 Cobra had Ray (Bonthron) haul it out of there Sunday night. At first Fritz said he was done racing and Ray said the car was a 'total' and no worth the repairs...next I hear is that it will go back down to Ray (in Benton, IL) and be 'rebodied'.
What is the status on your car? The damage didn't appear to be nearly as extensive as the Cobra (or others). Looking forward to hearing from you with an update.

Hi Rich,
I had a buddy with a roll back get my car Monday - they were not impounded, just stacked together until after the races.
I would have hauled it home in my trailer, but, she was a little too wide in the front end and the right tie rod snapped, plus the idler arm ripped out of the frame.
I have the car at a buddy's shop, he has it all torn down and I think it goes on the frame machine tomorrow. A lot of sheetmetal damage but the car seems to have held up well. A LOT better than most of the other cars, like Fritz's Cobra. Once we see where we are at with mine, it will either get fixed here with assistance from Jim Mattison and Dave Tiura , or maybe I can twist Dave's arm to take it back to Wheel to Wheel in Detroit where it was restored the first time. Time will tell.
I'll post pictures when I have some worth sharing.
