Is everybody here invited to participate?
Now the complicated part. I think Lamar Walden and Robbie want to go and trailor the car. Robbie would prep the car with slicks and skinnies and is an experienced driver. Untuned, through the exhaust, we are putting out 657 to the rear wheels through the Moser 4.11. That's at 4psi. Lamar says with the new tuning and the 10psi we plan for it will put the rear wheel HP at around 825 - 850.

If they don't want to go I might have the car shipped (assuming I'm invited) but would need somebody to take it down the track. Would that be possible? Who would I use to transport the car? I figure my wife and I would drive or fly up.

I don't want to internet race this car but would like to know what it is capable of doing on the strip. Sans A/C and lighter front end parts, skinnies, etc. we should be putting out about 1 HP per 4 pounds of car weight. I want to know what it will do. Any ideas??? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

is this your 02 zl1?
did you supercharge it? or turbocharge it? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif
we could sell tickets to drive it down the 1/4 !
that could pay for the shipping!!

Yep. F1 Procharger and solid roller (.780 lift/intake) are the major changes we made.

I have been practicing with the Nova and the 02 car..any chance I can drive for you???!!!! (Chill out guys, I am just kidding!) It would be great to see the car make a few passes and although they are both too timid to say so, Rob and Tom are more than able to drive for you.

Looking forward to seeing you both and your car in Sept.!

If Robbie and/or Lamar can't go the first thing I'll have to do is get the car there. Plus, I need to be sure there is somebody there qualified to drive the beast. No way in hell I'm going down the srip in that thing!

Ray: if you're looking for a backup to transportation, you might give Fred @ Concours (http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/showprofile.php?Cat=0&User=2782&page=5&what=showme mbers) a holler...I believe that's the fella that gets a lot of recommendations from guys on here. But, if you guys do decide to trailer it up yourselves, you might holler at some of the other Georgia guys, and join the caravan up...that way if something *should* happen, the extra sets of hands can help get ya back rolling.

Also, I think you should think about taking the car down the track *yourself*...the sYc has the track all day to ourselves, so you can take it at your own pace...you can make as many single passes as it takes to get familiar with the car. Yeah, you may not start out running as fast as the car is capable of, but even a seasoned driver is gonna have to get acclimated to the car...plus, after all the work & time y'all have put into the car, you deserve to enjoy it! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

I agree on both recommendations.

Ray... It is very laid back at the track. Make a pass at half throttle. We have the track to ourselves so there is no waiting for hours to make a pass. Anybody else bringing a car to the reunion that has not gone down the track should also consider it. Even if you just pussyfoot it for fun or for a smokey burnout it is OK and a great chance to play with your car.

Excellent point, Clill. Lots of folks get intimidated by the whole formality of the drag strip, but we rented the track so folks could literally ease into it...heck, I was that way once, except I didn't have the luxury of a track rental to get acclimated...I had to cut my teeth on a No-E Saturday night bracket race with 100+ cars in the class!

Anyway, as hard as it is to understand without being there, what Clill says is right on...the entire event is VERY laid back. And if *anyone* is considering trying their hand at the track, but have some questions, or need assistance, PLEASE feel free to ask myself, or anyone of the other folks at the track. Several of the guys there know their way around, and would be more than happy to lend a hand...whether it be a walk through of the staging lanes, burnout box, the line & tree area, or even the turn offs and return road...do not hesitate to ask.

So, even a scardy cat can take one down the track? I'll do that. Probably not full throtle though. I'll also try to find out who else around here is going.

Yessir...each year we have several guys who wanna tip-toe into drag racing, and they're almost always the guys with the biggest smiles!

Shor was the new drag racer 2 years ago i think. Last year he made about 25 passes in his Yenko Chevelle. It is a great place to learn to play. You don't even have to race anybody. Just come play with your car. If Lamarr comes he can show you the ropes...

I really want to urge anybody that is bringing a Supercar that has kinda thought it would be neat to try the drag strip but had never tried it before to let us know. There are a couple things to pass tech but no big deal. The main thing a restored car does not have is a overflow for the radiator and two throttle return springs. Those are easy and wont mess up your car. We can add a soda can at the track for the overflow. If you need mechanical help at the track there are plenty of us to help. You don't have to all out trash your car at the track to have fun. I'm a crappy drag racer but I still have fun.

Ray, Take the car down! You can do it! You can make 5 easy passes than stomp it when you are comfortable. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

That's what I have planned, if my rental car has some balls! I will upgrade for some more horsepower when I arrive at the Hertz counter if I have to.

Actually I did race my old 327 '55 chevy years ago. But that was when a low 14 second street car was fast. Not too long after those days one of the Platt brothers ran his "then" Funny Car into the crowd (not his fault even though the crowd wanted to kill him) at Yellow River drag stip and killed 15 or 20 people. Drag racing really cooled off around here for a few years.

The memory of that and the Lingenfelter accident kind of spook me.

Laid back mildly describes it !!! Some of the guys actually "water" the burnout box in lieu of the hose. It very environmentally friendly ! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
