Don't know if it was delivered this way, but you don't see too many dual-snorkle air cleaners on these cars. Do they repop these? Anybody know this car?:

1970 LS-6 and L-78 Chevelles W/O the Cowl Induction Hood option came with the now rare one year only Dual Snorkel Air Cleaner. People at www.Chevelles.net (http://www.Chevelles.net) might have info on the numbers. This air cleaner was also used on some(??) of the 1970 L-78 Novas. IMHO ALL of the 600 L-78 Camaros produced between Jan and July 1970 had the dual snorkel air cleaner as shown in the 1970 Camaro assy manual. even though many of the remaining L-78 Camaros are missing this very air restrictive cleaner..........
I recently had a quick 1st/2nd gear pull in a 70 Camaro L-78 with and w/o air cleaner and the difference was stunning...........

Chuck - my understanding is the single snorkle was the default snorkle set up for the LS6 w/o CI. I recall the dual snorkle in a '70 LS6 or L78 Chevelle is rare.

There were 3 air cleaners used on the 1970 LS6 engines..
1) single snorkle CI air cleaner used only when CI was ordered
2) 14"x3" open element air cleaner used throughout production when CI wasn't ordered
3) "dual snorkle" air cleaner used when CI wasn't ordered..There are some that say this was a "mid run" air cleaner used when complaints arose about noise..I tend to think it was more of a possible supply issue and hence the 14"x3" open elements were used. I have seen a Baltimore buildsheet from Dec '69 with the code for this air cleaner so hard to say "mid run" They are certainly rarer than the open elements..
There was never a "single snorkle" air cleaner used without CI.
Hope this helps

I too do not believe it is entirely due to the noise issue as I have seen cars thru out the production with the open element. I also feel it may have been a supplier thing. Here are the codes;
CO-dual snorkle
SS-open element
DG-cowl induction

Here's another Chevelle that Legendary Has:

Is it just me or are their cars getting more and more sloppy with time? Look at the grille on this restored SS 396 Chevelle. If you take the time to restore it, why not do it right?

A '70 Chevelle SS without cowl induction should not have hood pins. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif All Super Sports in '71 and '72 with and without cowl got hood pins...including the Heavy Chevy.

Umm, er, please substitute "open element air cleaner" for single snorkle air cleaner above. I must have been distracted..... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif .....
