I'm sure everyones aware of the impending storm to hit New Orleans. 50,000 plus lives could be lost according to computer projections, I pray those computers are wrong. My prayers go out to those folks.

I rode out a category 3 storm many years ago. I would not willingly do it again, a category 5 storm, no way-no how! My prayers go out to those in it's path.

I had two employees traveling to the area, I sent them home today.

Good luck to all those in the Gulf of Mexico area, I heard that the Mayor of New Orleans has ordered an evacuation.

This is really something, that we will all feel in this Country.
A Category 5 Hurricane aiming for a city that was built below sea level, with over a 1/2 million people trying to get the H*** out of there by the request of their own Mayor.
60-80% of the Homes will be destroyed when it's over, with it's effects reaching as far as Ohio later this week.
This is the Big storm that New Orleans has regretted since it was created.
The storm surge waves could be 30 feet high, with no place to go once beyond the levy, not to mention the possible loss of life.

And the off Shore Oil rigs will most likely be damaged, adding an immediate increase in Gas prices of 30 cents more a gallon by Tuesday. This is also a Major Hub for Natural Gas in the Midwest, raising Heating costs higher by this coming Winter.

In overseas markets tonight oil went over $70 barrell!! That up $4 from Friday due to this storm.

I saw the lines of cars on the highways going North-dead stopped traffic. Wonder how many people had to leave their muscle cars behind??

We're here in west Mobile County at the Alabama/Mississippi Line. Not a good situation, I've lived here all my life and riden out many hurricanes, this one has me worried, God help us all.

I think right now those folks are much more concerned about getting their kids and their families out of there alive than what will happen to their 69 Z/28's... I hope the forcasters are as wrong as they usually are, and its not as bad as they are currently predicting. Its stuff like this that makes you realize just how unimportant material possessions really are.

They are using the Superdome as a shelter for people that have no way to get out. If there was ever a time for a miracle I think this is one of those times.

"They are using the Superdome as a shelter for people"
And they have to frisk every single soul that walks in,so as to rule out possible terrorist attempts or the like.

Im trying to understand why all those people waited so long to leave...You get plenty of warning, just need to use some sense and get the hell out. I would have left 2-3 days ago..

We have these stupid building codes on the coast here because of hurricanes, Tell me if this makes sense... We have to install what is called Storm Glass which is esentially bullet proof glass to withstand the winds, Now the best part is we have to use egress windows in the bedrooms which is a window a fireman can climb into with a full pack. Problem is he can no longer break the glass to get in so whats the sense. I talked to the idiots who created this code and explained to them that if a Hurricane comes I have a few days to get my family out and to a safe place but if there is an unexpected fire in the middle of the night the firemen cant save us because they cant get into the house...They couldnt give me an answer http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif..Politicians at their best..idiots.. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

probably because of the expense insurance companys incur replacing glass in all the structures hit by hurricanes. it appears the storm has taken a slight turn and New Orleans may not get the full brunt of it, my understanding the levys will hold back the surge!!! it may still bring extreme loss of property but not lives, Thank God.

No. This is.
Sitting through a hurricane is like being in an 8 hour long train wreck.
Most of those folks in the Superdome won't have a home to go back to. Tragic loss for everyone. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Looks like it's really going down hill in New Orleans...people looting and carjacking...thats just unreal. Found this nifty quote from some genius looter on AOL..

"To be honest with you, people who are oppressed all their lives, man, it's an opportunity to get back at society," he said. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif

My parents were telling me that when we were hit by the 62 storm here the looters were heading to the island on their boats as the people we evacuating to the mainland on their boats and waved as they passed...Should be a minimum 30 year sentence for looting and that would stop that sheet.
