There were a lot of spectacular passes made at the Supercar Reunion today at Gateway, including a huge wheelstand from Ken Barnhardt's car, but the best for me was seeing COPO Pete make not one, but TWO 11.96 passes today following a 12 flat. Here are some pics of his first 11.96..

Congrads Pete! I see that the run came with a half tenth slower 60 foot than your best. Looks to me that you might get in the 80's yet. Any report on a silver L-88 Corvette? I'm just wondering if Jim Johnson make the trip and laid down some ets? I wanted to make the event as a spectator but just got home yesterday.

Jim was here with the silver vette, not sure of his exact times but he was definitely running low to mid 11's. There was also a cool '63 409 with aluminum fenders and dual Carters, running low 12's and maybe one high eleven.

BTW, I just read in the new Hot Rod that someone went 10.99 on belted tires with a stock (appearing) '68-'69 427 Corvette. Holy shneikies!

The Blue FAST Corvette just had posted on the YEARONE board a 10.76 at 130mph this evening. It's the same car that is in the inside cover of MuscleCar Enth.

Any idea what his times were on the Goodyear Polyglas tires.

Best for the orange car at SCR8 on G70 x 14 Polyglas was 11.42 @ 128. The old Firestone slicks are 2" larger in diameter than the polys and made for less overall gearing. That, and a bit more rubber on the ground. At SCR7 Terrys' Camaro went 11.13 two runs in a row on the polys. It went 11.06 / 127 at the Year One event in Atlanta earlier this year on G70x14 white letters.

He turned the wick up on the aluminum engine this year to well over 700hp through the exhaust manifolds and it's a bit harder to stick the tires now.

He'll probably go to a 3.73 or 3.90 gear to kill some of the low end cause it's a bit tough to keep the tires from spinning through first and second gear the way it is.
