Bill,
That's not just an extra bit of detailing under the hood, That's totally restored from the firewall forward.

I live about 20 miles from where that car was sold new. Too bad they touched under the hood.

Verne,,,,,I was being the kind, compassionate Bill S!!!! I actually dreamed about this car last night. Dreamt I made it into a 4spd, 350hp/tri-power car. Why not, its already been messed with, right????............Bill S
P.S.-----Verne, I was actually wondering about the battery cables. Correct or not,,,you would be the guy to ask.

Judging from those license plates, either the car and or the tags were stolen in 1963-a beauty though.

Yeah...the license plates don't match the registration or the cool key fobs... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Bill,
I noticed the battery cables too, but didn't comment on them. They are wrong. They should be spring-rings. The negative is brown, which would be correct, and no over the counter replacements are brown, so I'd guess the originals have had new clamps put on them. With all of the rest of the "restoration" that's been done under the hood, you'd think they (he) would have just stepped up for a set of repro cables with the correct ends.
Sure is a nice looking car though...

PS: Also note the tailpipe tips...

The car look's fantastic, changes, and all, New owner can get it back to his liken, as many of us have done, and will do to the cars we have now, or in the future. Just wish mine had been in that good of shape to ''Start'' with....Kasey... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Note the 1967 registration, still in the original owner's name, with the 'AUR710' plate number on it. There is probably some reasonable explanation why the original yellow with black numbers plates would have been replaced with the newer black with yellow numbers plates http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Interesting spare tire - looks like it had a paper sticker on it at one time. You think it's original?

I am pretty sure that all cars with yellow CA '56-'63 plates had to convert to the new black '63 CA plates when they were introduced. In '70 when the new blue plates came out that requirement was dropped.
So, in 1963 this car would have given up its original yellow plates for black plates.

I was thinking the same thing about surrendering the prior plates. Being that the black plates on this car begin with "AUR", these would have been issued in 1963. The "A's" are all 1963 issue.

You guys are correct...the golds were given up for 63 black plates which then stayed with the car forever..Gold plates are getting hard to find and bring a few bucks now...and 69 was changeover from black to blue ...some got black..usually very very high in the alphabet and some got blues..

Bel Air,I stand corrected.I guess all the yellow base plates running around now are through the Cal DMV YOM(year of manufacture program)They aren't currently offering that for the black base-and don't plan it anytime soon from what I've heard.I know that commercial black plates were not uncommon on even 71 trucks though.
I grew up a few blocks away from Baher,it used to Be H.E. Baher Chevy in Hermosa Beach(Dick Guldstrand used to sell cars there before he left to drive for Penske) than he moved the dealership to Northridge in the late sixties. It was Competition for about ten years in the mid eighties and has been in the Rydell group for about the last ten.

Cool Mark...I think this car was a dealer trade somehow....not sure if it went from Baher to Jack Head or vice versa,,,
I heard that some California folks are ordering current personal plates with their black plate number then putting the black plate on the car instead of the personal plate.
They would be the identical number.

Tim,that's true, although DMV usually denies the request because of the sequence(they are hip to it;). They are extremely popular-I've even seen people paint their seven digit blue and white base plates black and yellow, really adds the final touch for that period correct and they look great with any body color.Finding an original Cali muscle or pony car that still has it's o.g. black plates currently registered is money in the bank!. If the person who buys this Impala lives in CA. they will have trouble keeping those tags as the reg looks to have expired in the 70's.I have a friend who paid eight years of back fees just to keep her 69 olds black plates after it had "rested" for a few years.

Here in GA you will get a ticket for painting anything on your license plate. One of my buddies who likes to do it anyway ended up using vinyl this last time, so that he can just peel it off to appease the officer.

Darn-near impossible anymore, I'd guess. I've thought of registering my car at my parents' house in Sacramento using the YOM plates. I'd have to put new stickers over the 1968 and 1969 stickers on there now. Oh, and I'd have to deal with California DMV....nevermind!

I'd like to peel off the stickers of my original plate back to the 1967 issue, but afraid I'd mess them all up, just glad to have what I've got......... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
