Oh man, that car is INCREDIBLE! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

So what if it's an import? These guys are horsepower and speed addicts just like the rest of us. (Thankfully, the car is RWD. I can't get into front-wheel slicks and rear-wheel skinnies.)

Imports are fine, it's obnoxious fart-pipes that I'm against.

I'm gonna' watch that one again.

Charley has only to fear that speed and horsepower. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gifBut Charley has trumped this guy by having style and grace in the Malitude. The car is drop dead beautiful and I never saw it get out of shape once at SCR8.Plus it can be a daily driver like on PowerTour 2005.Long live the American muscle. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

I don't think that the Supra guy was trying to be stylish and graceful. I think he was trying to make 1500-plus hp and an 8-second pass in a stock-appearing car.

Yes, long live American Muscle but watch out for the guy in the white Supra.

That's crap....

He is making 1520 hp at 59 lbs of boost. Not many street cars will hold together making that much boost. I think I had the boost at 14 lbs by the end of the day and the track was getting slippery when it would hit 2nd gear so I called it a day without adding anymore boost. I don't think I would want to push mine past about 16lbs anyway without bigger injectors etc. That looks like a blast to drive.

Wonder what tricks he uses to get that car to hook so well? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Being a Turbo car, they tend to launch on the soft side compared to raw horsepower or nitrous. I 'd like to know, other than welding the head to the block, how does one contain 59 lbs. of boost?

Charley Lillard

I know some of the Porsche Turbo race cars welded the head to the block..

My only fear is staying ahead of Colin... drag race (http://www.lateral-g.org/movies/malitude.wmv)

------You can see how softly he leaves. It makes the ET even more unbelievable. His 60ft. looks like it stank, but, whoa momma after that 1st 60 I dont know how he held onto the wheel. Must have superglued his one hand to the wheel and the other to the shifter!!!..........Bill S

Is that 11.89 vs 12.30? That's movin.

Yep, that was what we ran- notice how the Cobra only used 2 gears ! My "fresh" transmission has a bad 2nd/3rd gear slider or synchro (haven't looked yet) , didn't find out until I tried to power shift it. So, to compensate, I'd leave the line at 1500 rpm in 2nd (to save the clutch), run her to 6600, force/grind/beat it into 3rd, and through the traps at 6600 rpm!

My best run was a 12.02 @ 116 - not bad for a stock 427 (dyno'ed at 447 hp at the flywheel) using 2 gears, on vinatage bias ply tires, in that heat ! I had a lot of fun, hadn't drag raced in 17 years... kept waiting for some turns to make up for my lousy start! LOL

Next year, I am going to put a couple of turbos and drag radials on it so I can break into the high-11's. Might even put a 4 speed auto overdrive trans with a high-stall converter in it. No, wait, that stuff didn't seem to help Charley much http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/CharleySucks.gif

I'll let you guys know what it runs at Union Grove with a fixed tranny in some cooler weather soon. Just to clear my car's name.LOL

This car is perfect for me. Even a crappy drag racer like me can run 11's..Still 14's in the Shelby though.
