Bruce,

-------Great pictures as usual!!! Living out here in the boonies has its advantages (no police, etc.) but I think Id trade it for these great cruise nights. Detroit Autorama every time.
-------In a Chevelle that blue green would be "Tahoe Turquoise". Im pretty sure its "Artesian Turquoise" in the Pontiac line. Just some more of the huge amount of absolutely useless trivia that crowds out anything important in my little brain!!!...........Bill S

I'm on my way back over to the Henderson Super Run car show this morning. I WON'T ever again be roped into being a judge! It's a 3 day show and there are 1,000 cars spread all over 8 city blocks and I gotta decide who gets one of the 100 trophies/awards. These people already hate me, so when they see me judging THEIR cars...they literally surround me to see what I'm writing on the judging sheets...we're talking 10-15 people at a time and let's just say it ain't their love I'm feeling.

Today I'm taking my roommate along to help me finish up the judging... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.yenko.net/attachments/160761-CARjudge.jpg

Wayne has got a sweet collection of vintage mopar. He is a regular at the Pavillions and exercises a different one nearly every week. This car is quite impressive in person. This is a 4 Speed, 4.10 Dana, 6 pack built for speed. No PS. No PB. All Go. Original drivetrain + documented with a BS.

Question for the Mopar guru's. Wayne just had the lift-off hood redone and had "organasol" applied. It provides a very ruff, flat patina (with a fine gritty material) surface which can not be cleaned by normal means - he uses a paint brush to clean it http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif . I know I'll sound like Cliff Clavin from Cheers, but here goes: They were produced that way from the factory, not for esthetic reasons but because the fiberglass technology at the time was so poor, they could not paint it a glossy finish without having major seams and imperfections showing through. That is the same reason the AAR Cudas and Challenger T/As had the same blacked out finish on their fiberglass hoods....as a matter of fact there Normy... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Bill( Bilede)- I hope that all goes well for your father in law...We'll get together sometime soon. You take care...and call me if there's anything I can do. I'll Pm you my number.

Sam- Thanks for the heads up on that car...Getting old is hell. I forgot almost immediately what that car was.
BTW, isn't Wayne the one who owns the yellow Road Runner Hemi that Charley liked so much...you know thw onewith the dust trails on the side?

Bill S.- Thanks for the complements. I think that I probably have more useless information stored inside my head than you do...at least your is cool information and stories! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif What stored inside my brain is anyones guess...I mean...do I really need to remember my phone number and address from when I lived in Huntsville, Alabama in 1966?

Steve Sandlin- Thanks again...the car ran Smooooooth! I hope that you got everything in order with "Car" in tow...judging at a car show has to be the pits...that's why at the 'little' car show that we had...we just had a peoples choice award...there was NO WAY I was going to get involved with judging cars... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

Kasey...thanks for the compliments, too. There are still a few remaining bubbles...hopefully it will cool off soon around here. I will address them at that time http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ken...you weren't supposed to tell anyone about the bubble filter...great, now what am I supposed to do? njsteve, your explanation for the blacked out hood is correct, but that is just the engineering dept speaking. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif
The MARKETING guys explained the flat black paint as being a "No Glare" surface, so that the sun wouldn't blind you when driving. This was from the AMX ads, but the Mustang and some other cars also had flat black paint on metal hoods. The concept came from the Air Force, as an aid to the pilots. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif
Sorry that I don't drink, Cliff. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Here's an example of a flat black anti-glare panel as applied to the prototype Convair YF-102 "Delta Dagger" interceptor. Anti-glare panels were applied in the days when military aircraft were left in their natural metal finish from the factory. You can imagine the sun reflecting off of that new aluminum skin and creating all kinds of visibility problems for the pilot.

The F-102 was fondly known as the "Deuce" by its pilots.

Yes, you're absolutely right on the anti-glare panel comparison. Chrysler took an engineering minus and turned it into a advertising plus.

That's what marketing is all about, making something into a feature and then adding a benefit.

Do they have a for sale spot for cars at the Pavillions?

bilede
10-18-2005, 08:56 PM
Suart, no for sale signs visible on the car at pavillions but there are people that put for sale signs or flyers on the seat just inside the vehicle visible when someone finds your car appealing and looks inside.

There was a black/black LS6 El Camino Turbo 400 that won Super Chevy Pomona a few years ago. Car sold for $40k and went overseas. Overseas buyer was shopping the car at $70k about 18 months ago. The car was a frame-on resto, color changed from white to black. It was a very nice #2 car.
